  • did they play aerowalk there? i think its still the best 1on1 map ever created 15 years after it came out.

  • @ssuuppeerrbbooyy Aeroshit is just a brainless run and gun map. You might as well go play Halo or CoD. Secondly Aeroshit wasn't made when this match took place.

  • @bongo155 you prefer wait and spam maps?

  • @ssuuppeerrbbooyy I prefer the old style quake where you had to use your brain. If you're going to play a map like aeroshit, where there is TONS more spamming, then you might as well be playing CS or CoD.I'd rather watch old Rix NQ DM6 demos than two brainless players who just running a map without any thought. Sure, they might have good movement and aim. Its the same with dmm4 duels. They were a great tool to warm up for games but when they became the norm I got bored and quit QW.

  • @bongo155 'aeroshit" brings out the best of quakeworld's gameplay

  • @qlspadex Brainless running around and spamming? Sure, if thats your sort of thing - fine. But QW players have always been elitist but maps like aerowalk dumb quake down. Simple run and gun. As I said you mind as well being playing CoD.

  • @bongo155 I simply like faster paced gameplay.

  • @qlspadex DM4 was a good example of faster gameplay. There were some really good custom maps out there that people never gave a chance.

  • more +back than rapha in q3/ql, barely can believe that

  • Thumbs up if you watching this at 2011

  • fu...ing great game experience...

  • kinda sucks when they make it so bright, jeze, why not just play with R_fullbright 1 goin... the shadows and the noises make it, shit why not just skin the models with a full red suit so they glow

  • anybody who calls Thresh a noob is a total effing moron. This guy is a legend who would pwn you like nobody's business.

  • Quake 1, where online DM started for me. I was horrendous though.

  • This would be a lot better if that guy wasn't yackin.

  • I would've thought thresh would have had better aim.

  • @cloudanu 1997. there were no 3500 DPI 1000MHz refresh mice, or super smooth mouse pads. these guys were all still using ball mice i believe.

  • Thresh just camped and ran away all game.

Entropy was in the chasing mode all game, chasing Thresh while Thresh ran away backwards and fired rockets at corners.

All Entropy had to do was do the same exact thing Thresh was doing, just run away when you see him, backwards, while firing rockets. Neither of them would win, the score would be like 3-3 and the game would be a boring match. Everyone would call both of them shitty players.

Instead, Entropy played right into the camper hands

  • @bio2020 That is not true, if you watched more of threshes games u would know he can play any style he wanted.. if the other guy played differently thresh would as well and own him like he owned everyone else..

  • Trash I mean thresh was a camping douche bag, "lets camp by the yellow armour"

  • @GeneralGurd

If he actually wanted to win, and if that is the best strategy, he would be an idiot not to do it.

  • @GeneralGurd i would camp like a mother fucker for a ferrari and you know you would too.

  • how do you rate: Unreal

  • You see? THIS is a real death match game. The Quake series have always been the king of all death match. Except for the newer trash released after Quake 3 Arena that is. I like this style of gameplay more, and it ain't TOO fast paste either.

  • And to think Thresh won Carmack's Ferrari from this game. And why the hell was the final played on E1M2?? Bad map for dueling.

  • @bongo155 If you quaked in 97, that was the map for 1v1. Dm6 didnt come into play as the main 1v1 map untill later.

  • Maybe in the USA but not in Europe and Australia. E1M2 became the most popular team DM map in Europe, or at least as popular as DM3 later on. Also, the first season of the PGL in 1997, not that long after this tournament at E3, Thresh beat Reptile on DM6. Gollum also beat Rix on DM6 in the first CPL in 1997. I still have the demos somewhere of those games.

  • +back bitch

  • Thx for posting this piece of history.. Man this guy cofounded Xfire.

  • to your info Thresh its the xfire creator FU

  • Gotta admit that Thresh has some good map control, though.

  • It's call strategy. He wasn't running away, he's backing away from a possible rocket to the face. In real life, if someone had a semi-auto rocket launcher, you wouldn't run directly into the rockets to try to look like a badass and die, would you?

Friggin commoners, you don't know shit about FPS if you think this is boring. Get back to your CoD and My First FPS, aka Halo.

  • Nothing wrong with CoD or Halo, both were great games.

  • Thanks for bringing real life into quake, that's just so great.

  • Yeah, it's great because I made a good point. It was so good, that you had to post a worthless reply with no meaning at all.

  • I love this commentator

  • he is cool innit

  • Comment removed

  • Thresh is a legend! I love e1m2 duels!

  • i was def 12 when this happened and i said i was 16 to join DR3 the ctf clan.. only team i remember playing was DOV... anyone remember dr3?

  • Great stuff, brings back a lot of fantastic memories.

A lot of Quakeworld die-hards are better these days, but this game was played in 1997. The fact that he was SO good both aim-wise but particularly tactic-wise, merely one year after Quake's release, with the Internet just coming about, is nothing short of amazing.

  • With 200-300ms ping :) those were days.

I still play QW but it's really rare these days. It's more fun then Q3a but I'm railing man in Q2/Q3 so I miss it in QW.

  • Yeah wireplay (in the UK at least) with a 56k modem in 1997 got me about 70-110ms on UK servers though it was 5p/min on top of the phonecall charge. The lan gear we had back then wasnt exactly fast (about 30-40ms) so I soon got used to it. People like Sujoy and Warhammer just dominated the best servers though, so I gave up playing seriously, until Quake 3 sucked me back in.

  • Yeah. Nice memories.

  • So old school brings back good memories. I use to play under "Jawa". Was in clan SGP, negative burn, damage inc, MOD, star69.

  • This was a HUGE deal back when I was 14. Good times!

  • The narrator doesn`t really know what he`s talking about. Watch carefully. Why can`t Thresh attack when he has the armor?

  • because thresh didn't need to attack. he was in the lead, entropy had the burden of attacking thresh before time ran out.

  • Entropy was made to look worse than he actually was because he got a bad start - after than he had to walk into a hail of rockets just to get to Thresh.

The only thing he could have done at 3 - 0 was to go defensive, play as if he was in the lead and hope for some lucky breaks but he got a bad start and never recovered. This is the danger of playing on public duel servers where only 1 in 10 players is tactically very good (even if they all have great aim) you get into bad habits.

  • Gr8 game, Thresh ESP.

  • Man this brings back memories, im 23 now but man cant remember how old I was then playing this game. I remember playing on my 28.8 modem getting like 250+ ping all the time, then broadband came in the area and we got it right away, started pinging lot lower, made a huge difference pings did back then. And in team dm you would pick players like u did on the playground lol, pick 2 captains then choose who u want on ur team. good ol days.

  • what clans were you in?

  • Wow, pretty good match, lol the graphics look amazingly different to the enhancements quake contains now, by the way is this the entropy that now plays Half-Life? If so, I play him :)

  • Thresh was a god at this game. Damn i miss quake.

  • ahh how the fuck can you move with a 1000 ping? even at that time i went to cyber cafes, i ping like 100 140

  • Terrible video. It's a highlight reel from a douche gaming show, not the actual game. I'll get FRAPS going on the actual .dem file and upload that instead.

Oh, and for the guy who thinks he could beat anyone (read: the occasional person, not everyone) with a 1000 ping... Bullshit. That's a full second delay. Even people who hadn't seen a computer before could have killed you if they had a true LPB connection.

Go pull your pud somewhere else.

  • that would be great man can you reply and let me know? Man thresh=skillz great to watch even if the quality is crap becasue its him .

  • I remember he was a god 10 years ago in Quake. His skill level was so high compared to other players

  • Heh... Thresh was so good the other guy went -1.

  • There were two kinds of gamers then. LPB's and HPB's. Low ping bastards high ping bastards. I was an HPB. I used to beat guys on T1's with 1000 ping on my best days. On my worst days I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Quake was a weird game like that. YOu had to be in the exact right frame of mind to win.

  • with a 1000 ping beating guys with T1's? yeah right, i used to have a 36.6 and the odd day i'd luck out against a ISDN player but fact is someone who could shaft with LPB pwned the HPB most of the time.

I've played since the days of VQ and that is the most bullshit comment i've ever seen.

  • There were hpbs who were good that could be mediocre LPBs but we're talking 200-300ms not 1000, 1000 would be a full second behind and there just is no way.

Regardless no hpb tore it up all day or anything, there were too many good lpbs running around and all other things being equal the LPB has a huge advantage.

  • damn he is so good

  • historic match.... thresh even has his own page on wikipedia! in fact its there that i first read about him when i looked up 'quake'.

    favourited!

  • Is that Thresh guy still playing?

Huh that's hell of a good game to see.

I quess he won by 10~20 frags.

  • nope, he's a business man now.

He created xfire, sold it one year ago to yahoo and is currently still working on it.

  • Cool, thanks for let me know.

  • I have one of Thresh VS MikeJ, he creams MikeJ in DM6 but MikeJ put up a good fight.

  • WHY were they playing this non-map in a competition? Thresh CRIED and CRIED about having to play a real map until finally the tourney admins folded to his demands and agreed to pick from a pool of maps that had not been played in the tournament before (and for a very good reason)

  • Yeah, it always seemed to me that the single player maps were a bit poorly designed for death match.

  • I love the narration by a guy who probably hasn't seen a computer before, let alone Quake. Excellent work by Thresh controlling the power side of the map. Absolute classic demo.

Now how about uploading the Clan 9 versus DR matches?

  • Thresh is the king of mapcontrolling :)

  • Yep. He once said in an interview on german gaming TV-Channel "GIGA", that there are two kinds of gamers. The ones with better aim and ones with better map controlling. And he said most of the time the tactic-guys will win.

  • Wow... legendary. Thresh was on the Guiness Book of Records in 1999.

  • I still watch this demo in Quake at least once a year, it's a definite classic. The voice-over is an interesting idea; did you do it yourself?

  • nope, credit goes to the information at the end of the video.
