  • Horrible cover. Horrible.

  • how can you guys say wayne cant sing?

  • I love Wayne Coyne’s fragile voice. He sings with such emotion and vulnerability...he’s one of my favourite singers even though he can’t really sing. I just wanna give him a cuddle :)

  • arhhh different??thats about all ..its pretty much a totally different song put some new lyrics to it and you've got a pretty decent song.

  • Wanye I like yo singing. nEver stop!!!!

  • I think this one is just for FL fans

  • should pick up to original tempo at some point during the performance, but that is my opinion, nice go

  • @metalheadjesusfreak yep correct hardly any slow covers have been worth the effort. the best covers have pretty much been up-tempo .'watchtower ,,"cry me a river""

  • Another interesting cover is the Fine Young Cannibals doing this song.

  • this is a good cover but... not the best i mean if you a really good cover loolk up pete yorn cover .

  • this is a good cover but... not the best i mean if you a really good cover loolk up pete yorn cover .

  • fuck dude i was waiting for them to bust out the four on the floor beat and kick it into high gear....

  • goddamn this is shit

  • wood.house@sympatico.ca

  • You know people complain too much,if they're version was too much like Elvis, then people would say why bother to cover it,and if its too different ,then they say that it ruins the original .Well you can still listen to original song, its not like you cant.I really dont see how a different cover ruins anything.

  • Big Elvis fan here, and I like this here. I like how they took this great song, and changed the arrangement to fit their style. Been searching throught youtube for find the best Elvis covers, and this certainly is one of them.

  • What? You guys like cover songs to be exact like a tribute band or something? He took a deeply meaningful song, and reframed it in a thoughtful, introspective way.

  • Very bad! Elvis most likely would've thought this was shit-if he listened to more than three seconds of it!!!

  • I think Elvis would like this version but he'd probably think the Lips are a "bunch a' dang weirdos. What wrong with the feller there with the blood comin' out of his head? 'Zee alright?"

  • Interesting take on this.

  • I keep wanting this version to wake up ... but its still sleepy

  • not god version

  • Elvis would say what? You sound like a U2 wanna be. But you dont have it!

  • I love this version. I also love the original, but this does something rare and is as good or better than the original.

  • This is almost as emotional as the original, but differently...bravo

  • Hello!!!!!!

  • only two kinds of people know karate.... the chinese.... and THE KING! LOOK OUT now.

  • Karate is Japanese, Kung Fu is Chinese

  • And Yoshimi

  • @Tbagg2001 actually karate is from Japan...

  • Elvis would so dig this

  • your right, I do

  • Anyone know who's on keyboard?

  • This is my favorite cover. Thanks so much for posting them!

  • your right.....this is beautifull.

  • It's true that Wayne is not the best singer, but he sings with so much heart, he makes up for it.

I saw these guys last night in Portland. Wow!

I brought a date who had never listened to them and she was SCREAMING half the show, she was so excited.

  • @sex6cult9revolution right on ! wayne is a true artist , lots o peeps can't stand Dylan's voice , another artist . You either get it or you don't. i do feel sorry for the poor sods who just can't grab hold . they are missing out , big time . lips LIVE rules!

  • @sex6cult9revolution yeah??? was she screaming after the show???

  • beautiful

  • I like this, because it is indeed an entirely different take on the song. However, I can't get over the fact that the guitar part sounds like Galaxie 500. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you...

  • ok im drunk you can tell by my spelling, but its true.............

  • this song is a rendition,..........its so lovely, the guy has a big soul,........if you cover a great song do it your own way, ....listen to this version in the right state of mind and it will blow you away .........

  • he sings it with a different tune as the oroginal, but it's not out of tune

  • he always sings out of tune, i think it's his style...

  • i remember reading that they were intending to do this elvis cover in the style of spacemen 3. i like it.

  • he is kinda singing out of tune or is just my idea?? not digging this version...

  • Comment removed

  • Dunno what he was trying to do here.

I'm a huge Lips fan but this cover just didn't work at all.

  • shittiest.drum.part.ever

  • This is a great cover version. There's no point covering a song if you're not going to interpret something differently from the original people. x

  • Exactly. I love Deadicated is a great example of this, Dwight Yokam Yokum>??? version of Friend of the Devil is sooo forlorned and sad compared to the bouncy happy go lucky Dead version.

  • I like this version as much as I like the dead guys.....

  • a truly brilliant cover, is made into a completely new song in itself.

    great version!

  • this is the most original cover of suspicious minds ever.brilliant

  • how can it be like a 'karaoke version' lab1760, what do you think Michael and Steven are doing? where do you think the music is coming from?

    idiot

this isn't the greatest thing the lips have done, but that doesn't mean its bad.

speaking of bad covers, has anyone seen the clip of the Coldplay guy singing waitin' for a superman? He absolutely butchers it.

  • Yes, you´re really missing the point.

  • oh stop with the ol "elvis ripped off a song" blah blah blah. look, back then singers didn't neccessarily write thier own songs. there were people who did nothing but WRITE songs. There is nothing wrong with singing other people's songs, and if a writer gets ripped off it is NOT the artist's fault. the fault is the deal that the writer worked out with a publisher. An unknown writer might have someone offer to buy a song out right. big deal? This version is awesome anyway...

  • cool video. cover isn't so bad. love the flaming lips...no one can compare to elvis and his voice though.

  • caveman.

  • I think you're missing the point completely Lab1760.

  • I like it but I am gay for the Flaming Lips, hehe.

  • I wanted to hear a somewhat faithful cover in the style of the flaming lips, what I got sounded like flaming lips singing the lyrics to suspicioud minds over the music of led zeppelin's rain song, I'm not gonna defend the flaming lips because I'm not gay for them like meadus73.

  • meadus73 you present your opinions as fact, "single most innovative band of our time" "15 classic albums" we will rock you is a classic, a 69 chevy camaro SS is a classic, the afore mention albums are what you like, the public determins what is a classic, that which stands the test of time, with that said just because something is a classic doesn't make it quality, I like the flaming lips and I like this song, I do not like this cover, I'm not gonna be loyal to the song or the band covering it.

  • Good points. To me, the albums are classic, and I think most music lovers would agree on the Soft Bulletin being one.

I hear you, though. I own a 1971 El Camino. I love it, but some people think it's the ugliest car in the world.

I do think the Lips could have done this song a hell of a lot better. But at the same time, I wouldn't say Wayne's voice has ever been stellar. It's about the whole performance, which is lacking on this one.

  • horrível

  • Que mamada de cancion, la cagaron completamente.

que pendejos, mejor que canten lo suyo nada mas.

  • Anyone who shits on the Lips musically is a retard. They are the single most innovative band of our time. Period. And who gives a shit if it's an Elvis song their 'raping'? Elvis was a bloated loser for half his career, and the Lips are still going after 15 classic albums. Pick up 'The Soft Bulletin'. Better than anything Elvis ever did. Fact.

  • You forgot to mention that Elvis raped plenty of songs that weren't his as well. Still, I quite enjoy the old fifties Elvis bits from time to time.

  • this uh really really uh SUCKS ASS!!!!!!

  • what is this???

  • daaaaaa!!! those are the Lips man, they can do whatever they want!

  • Jesus christ that was fucking horrible. What a way to take a classic song and rape it in the ass without lube.

  • Everyone is entitled to their wrong opinions, this is brilliant.

  • Fantastic!

  • what a bad version.. no way...if elvis would resurrecting he would kill himself. this is garbage

  • i expect he would have liked it.

  • terrible vocal, should have thought twice ab out this cover.

  • behold the genius that is Wayne Coyne. Shame on you who want covers that sound like the original. The Lips are one of the truly innovative bands around.

    Do you realize!!!!

  • innovative or not, that was terrible. I give them credit for changing the arrangement but this is a song you dont fuck with. If you ARE going to change it, make it sound decent or awesome, not whatever this is.

  • My favourite Elvis song (well tied with In the Ghetto) gets a truly original cover, seeing them on that Dermot O'Leary show was actually what got me into the Flaming Lips who at least are original in their intrepretations (see Kylie's Can't get you out of my head). Thanks trying to track this down for ages

  • The Velvet Underground meets Elvis.

  • Total crap, like the band...but I'm not too fond of their judgment and arrangement of this great song.

  • I really liked that

  • Haha ... this version is REFRESHINGLY different. Sooooo much better than the No Doubt version. Me thinks The King is giving two thumbs up from his grave !!!

  • They'll be fine when their lead singer learns

to sing and the band learns to read music.

  • You've really never heard of the flaming lips? True, this cover is not good, but they are one of the best bands ever. check out some of their stuff

  • crap !!!

  • cool video. cover isn't so bad. love the flaming lips...no one can compare to elvis and his voice though.

  • im sorry but they have killed a very greate song :(

  • This is fucking great shit indeed.

  • This is a great Shit.

  • Dull as fuck.I'd hardly call this a cover, it's another song with the same lyrics.

I enjoy covers where bands put their own twist on things, but they've ripped out everything which was good about the original...

  • mmh.. Im a fan of both Elvis and the Flaming Lips. And even as I know that no one will ever be able to sing his songs like The King himself, Im pretty sure that the lips could have done a better version.

  • both are good.

  • can't beat the elvis version....

  • Interesting video, thanks for sharing. I had to watch this several times!

  • I thought this was great. They obvious admired Elvis and I cannot think of any better complement. This is just the type of thing Elvis would do when he admired a song or a singer. I am touched that artists today still remember and look to him. I prefer Elvis' version of course but I like this too.

  • shocking!

  • I hated this version, but then I came back and watched it after taking 50mg of valium and quite liked it!! this is the kind of song that they play in the day room of a mental hospital!

  • The king has left the building...

& now he's turning over in his grave - this is soooo bad

    worse than no doubt!

  • Give me a break here people. If your telling me there's some great musical substance to Elvis' music....well...... I'd probably just fall down laughing......hahahahaha

As for this cover. I liked it, I definitely liked it better than the cheesy Elvis' version, but hey, you know what they say about opinions and assholes

  • This is even worse than the Gareth Gates cover and I didnt think that was possible

  • I loved this version. It's sung to Elvis. That's love.

  • killed the song:(

  • they killed the song

  • this video kinda pisses me off .. this is the worst cover of all time .. Leave it to the king.

  • wrong tempo, wrong arrangement. Leave it to Elvis only.

  • awful 0/0

  • i loved this song once...now i am trying to get this out of my head! some people just shouldn't try to duplicate great things. no good! (aseidler)

  • crap

  • How to make a great song boring

    VOCALS anyone!!!!

  • wow...damn. awesome. 5/5

  • I love the Flaming Lips and I love this song but the lead singer just doesn't have the right voice for this song.

  • I usually love the Flaming Lips and their great covers, but that was terrible. Different yes, good no.

  • amazing!

  • Gorgeous, a lovely tribute to a song that always had bigger dreams than it let on.

  • oh god... c'est mauvais

  • that was awesome

  • beautiful
