Funny. You say, "It's the fighter's fault" for letting paid/ trained "professionals" determine the outcome of a prize fight? Then after the judges make the wrong decision (according to the vast majority of fans, all legitimate MMA Media outlets, The UFC's President, and even one of the judges who later said he made the wrong call), you say I don't know MMA?
lol

...And now, The undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion of the world: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua!!! 1st Round KO over Lyoto Machida for all u Machida lovers.
I think Machida won 'cause he was never ever put in any danger ! He remained cool and collected T.O. the fight... counter everything Shogun tried ! Take down attempts and take down defence counts points.
Everybody was cheering for Rua, check the one sided Joe Rogan during the fight.
No matter what happened he would only see what Shogun did. Unbelievable !
we will see in the rematch who was right ? Still think TKO for MACHIDA 1st.round.
Shogun won period. Yes it was a rob. Yes the UFC had something to do with it. Yes Shogun was the better fighter. Yes Machida put on a great fight aswell. Yes Shogun will claim what's rightfully his in a rematch.
Why do we need judges anyway we should score mma fights like a video game keep constant track of each fighters stats aggression, damage given, damage taken etc into one life bar.
The bright side of all this is that now we could have Silva/Belfort and Machida/Rua in the same card (maybe for UFC 109-110) because according to Soares, apparently Anderson wont be ready for 108, and that would be an awesome card.
Although the guy I picked to win won the fight, I gave that fight to Rua (3 rounds to 2). I wouldn't say straight robbery but I think Shogun did enough to win that fight. At some point it reminded me of Paquiao/Marquez II, where I picked Pac to win, but once the decision was announced I was saying something like ''man, I think he lost that fight''.
"Shogun won the fight. Machida won the first 3 rounds. The 10 point must system is completely unfit for MMA. "
This is my opinion too. In Pride, Shogun would have won that fight hands down -- and rightly so. As a fight, Shogun won. But with the 10 pt must system, the 48-47 score for Machida is justified and even if it's disputed, it's FAR from a "robbery" and I think that's clear.
10 point must system should be replaced with Pride's philosophy of scoring.
round 5: machida lands 2 great punches a body kick and 4 great knees one hitting the face. shogun lands 4 leg kicks a good elbow and a decent right hand and another good punch. this one is very very close but in my opinion machida seemed to out strike shogun while being very accurate. so its machida simple as that
Rua outlanded Machida 89-50 in Total Strikes landed including 73 Leg Strikes landed. Rua dominated the fight and did just about everything he needed to do to beat Machida and this are compustrike stats.
round 4: machida lands 2 leg kicks a body kick a great head kick and 4 punches and chalks a takedown while being pretty inaccurate. shogun is a little more accurate he lands 6 great leg kicks two good knees and and a great elbow and he sets the pace the whole round. shogun no doubt takes this round with pushing the pace.
round 3:machida plays the agressor early landing 2 big punches and 2 body kicks, he lands 2 more body kicks and a good knee. later in a big exchange he pushes the pace and lands 5 effective punches and a bodykick along with being slightly innaccurate missing twice shogun lands 5 very good legkicks a body kick an elbow a good knee and two counter punches what gives machida this round is slightly out striking and the fucking insane inaccuracy of shogun he misses a shit load in this round
round 2: machida lands 2 bodykicks 3 punches and a punch that stumbles shogun at the begining of the round, he also lands 3 legkicks and a good knee later he lands a big straight and a big punch as shogun comes in for a kick he was also insanley accurate and dominates the highlightreel after the round shogun lands a good jab 2 good leg kicks 2 bodykicks and had good control against the cage with some knees again very inaccurate completely missing alot of strikes. machida wins this round
i just rewatched the fight, i score the fight 4 to 1 machida i watched as closely as i could with the sound on and off each round round 1:machida won because he landed effective knees and straight punches and a body kick as well as he was very accurate and chalked a couple takedowns while shogun landed a body shot two good leg kicks and a hook to the back of machidas head and had some good pace control against the cage thats it and he was very inaccurate
At 7:37 thats the one thing that sound be stricken from the record. No one can be compared to Fedor. Only Fedor wins every round and Machida is nowhere in the skills of Fedor Emelianenko.
I heard that Rumble weighs 220lbs. That fights at 170lbs. Just like ANderson who cuts from 220lbs to 185lbs. Fighters that cut weight suck.
PS I'm not a huge Machida or Rua fan i like the both the same so i doesn't really matter 2 me who won, i enjyoed watching the fight and i'm gonna enjoy the rematch, and even if it was a robbery witch it was not, why ya all hateing on machida, it's not his fault the judges gave him the fight, youre nothing a bunch of frustrated idiots. think ya all pro in fucking judging and scoreing, if ya all that good why aren't you in those chairs in the UFC judging board?
Machida won round 1,2 and 3. Shogun won 4 and 5 round. Why? Watch the video without Joe Rogans comments and you'll see Shogun didn't really damage Machida, all he did was stalk Machida and throw occasionally leg kicks. Machida on the other hand, mixed his game up pretty well, throwing knees, punches to the head, body kicks etc. He tried to finish the fight.
Shoguns leg kicks didn't do much damage until round 4 and 5 which he won. It's who wins most rounds, not who wins the last one.
The problem you rua fans have, is that you r not able 2 look at this fight in a proffesional way, you see only what you want, you only see rua scoring points, every shot rua trows has a counter, Machida better in the clinch, better boxing, great takedown defence, better counters. Rua better leg kicks, no takedown(a slip 4 Machida that you idiots claim as a takedown), no boxing, better octagon control(questionable). Be realistic or stop posting stupid comments, talking your robbery shit.
We are all guilty of glorifying the best of the best, but god forbid if they ever appear less than perfect.
We also cheer on the underdogs like Shogun who does the unthinkable. Yeah, before Shogun, no one has put the hurt on Machida.
If they fight again, watch Machida trip and take down Shogun when they clinch with ease. For payback, he will punish Shogun's surgically repaired knees. Machida won't be a 5-1 favorite like before, but he'd still be a 3-1 favorite at least.
You really should watch some of the pre UFC fights of Shogun. This man was consider the best light heavyweight in the world 3 years ago and for good reason. The old Shogun is back and next time he's not going to let the judges decide.
Shogun totally shutdown Machida and batter him look at his face after the fight. Machida is not the invincible phenom that a lot of people thought. The fact is not to long ago people like BJ Penn took Machida to a decision for those who don't know who he is the current 155 pound champ. Machida is like Chuck Liddell once you figure him out everyone and his grandmother can beat his ass this still time for Machida show he can change unlike Liddell.
I've gotta say, man, I've lost some respect when you put that stupid photoshopped picture of Shogun and Machida on your main page. jonnyg is right: get over your blind hatred of Machida. It was an extremely close fight and how any educated and intelligent fan could try to call this a robbery is beyond me...
There was no robbery here. One could argue a razor close decision either way, since rounds 1 and 2 were so close, but this was no robbery according to the UFC's 10 pt must-system.
Going into this fight, it's not like Shogun was Liddell in his prime, with the entire MMA community supporting him. He was the underdog, underestimate, under appreciated and had the vast minority of the support all the way into the 4rth round when the crowd was chanting, "Machida."
And then, the decision came.
And EVERYONE changed their tune. They got angry, flooded message boards, bood and talked about it non stop.
The answer to the crowd reaction is obvious ... crowds are notoriously fickle. The last impression is what matters, and Shogun was winning the last two rounds of that fight and he won that last round emphatically. That's what the crowd was left seeing, so that obviously sways their reaction.
You would not call this a robbery if the fighers names were switched... it's just bias. There was no robbery here, not even close, and even most fighters who thought Shogun won don't use that word.
did it occur to you that one of the reasons they were chanting "Machida" all the way into the 4th round because, up until that round, Machida was winning the fight? If this is a robbery, explain how exactly Shogun "dominated" or even clearly won rounds 1 or 2. Do you really deny these were both close rounds?
as for respect, yes i know you don't care, i'm just saying.. stooping to a photoshopped humiliation of a top-level fighter who did not make this decision .. sorry, that's just juvenile.
Search for Derren Brown - Shopping Mall here on YouTube and you'll understand how Joe Rogan perpetrated mass hypnotism on his audience.
Basically Derren Brown repeated over and over on the mall's p.a. system what he wanted them to do. And when he finally said raise your hand, everyone in the mall raised their hand (even those talking on the phone) without knowing why.
I remember playing Street Fighter and Tekken a long time ago and we used to heckle players who use cheap leg kicks. Yeah, they are still cheap leg kicks today -- safe and cheap leg kicks.
If they get a rematch, Machida will end the fight fast with a torrent of flying fists. He won't take a chance of slowing down in late rounds. The only cuts Machida sustained were from elbows to his face in the 4th or 5th. I know he won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Can't believe someone as intelligent as you put a Shogun/Machida background on your main page like that. The Payed judges, the payed writers of the sport, and Dana White said it was a close close fight. I believe Rua won, but a close fight. Get the hell over it, and get over your hate for Machida. You look like a baby. And you look like you think you know everything about MMA, thinking your opinion is the right and final say. Payed people of the sport all viewed it as real close. Get Real.
Three rounds were pretty close. Two rounds (4 & 5) belongs to Shogun. Shogun definitely should have won. Although I predicted Machida will win, I was really suprised that Machida won that fight.
Sorry but the rematch is going to be different. Machida's going to learn from this. He will take Shogun down, pound him out and hopefully gas him out.
I dunno about shogun learning from anything except for increasing aggression
Well brock gets booed. kobe gets booed. Does it mean they are not winners?Besides blame the judges not machihda. You are thinking way out of your ass, STUPID!
It was a close fight, I think Shogun won but I watched it a few times with sound off and at least 3 rounds could have gone either way so to call it a robbery is ridiculous.
no matter my opinion about the fight. However if you do a commentary - same as you ask people to say why machida won i would like you to talk about why you think its ridiculous. not that it is ridiculous, over and over again. But why you think rua won the fight. Maybe it wasnt so ridiculous, maybe it was a close fight and thats why it would be interesting.
dude lyoto machida done nothing the whole fight watch it again shogun sure as hell won or drew but machida and him were exchanging and he threw some nice combos in the first two rounds
rewatched the fight several times and he did probably take round 1,2,3 even if very close.
4,5 shogun, in round 5 lyoto is visibly hurt and shogun is not quite dominating but clearly the better guy, but if nything we should blae the scoring system not machida.
he did win that fight, or draw with round 2 being 10-10
exactly what happened with me. Immediately after the fight I was surprised by the decision, as I thought Rua had won (though even then I knew it was far from a "robbery.")
but when you watch it again, especially in slow motion with no commentary, many have noted that giving Machida rounds 1-3 is justified Rounds 4 and 5 were more dominant for Shogun than 1-3 for Machida, and according to Pride scoring Rua would be the right victor, no questions asked. But Machida wins with UFC scoring.
not round 2 dude,look man its not a semi-contact combat sport, you aren't supposed to score a fight on the number of hits landed, its the amount of damage done;
Machida looked hurt, he was limping, he switched from southpaw to orthodox to protect that side of his ribs!
plus there's aggression, octagon control to consider.
Honestly though, you can say anything before and after a fight, but your body speaks the truth in the fight and you look at Rua and Machida in round five & tell me who won :)
round 2 is the one you disagree with? rounds 2 and 3 were the clearest machida rounds, even though they were still close. round 1 was very hard to call.
watch round 2 in slow motion. the most significant strikes are machida's. he landed some solid straight punches and even rocked Rua with one of them.
Yes, Rua had all the momentum by the end and did more damage overall. With Pride scoring he would have won. But with UFC's 10 point must system scoring, Machida - barely - won this fight.
I disagree. I think as close as the rounds were Machida won rounds 1 2 and 3. Shogun won rounds 4 and 5. Granted, the first 3 rounds were closer than the last two. The second round in specific, was the toss up for me and I could have seen it going both ways although I gave Machida the edge. Nobody got robbed. If you watch the fight closely you will see that for almost every leg kick was a counter punch. Machida won it. Shogun looked great. I look foward to a rematch.
I'm a Machida fan but being a true martial artist myself I have to say that Shogun was robbed! I was shocked when i heard that Machida won...I was more shocked when the judges rendered a unanimous decision. Strait up bullshit. That fight should have been split decision at best...even no contest, but not unanimous. Shogus fought an awesome fight. He was definately the shogun of old that I remember from pride. Shogun will get his chance again...
Shogun won, but heres my theory. Shogun lost because he outpointed Machida. He legged kicked him. I believe Cecil Peoples (One of the judges) said something like "You don't finish a fight with leg kicks" So the thing is, when you fight the champion you have to finish (Or beat him bloody with a brawling style) to win. The judges dont care about strikes designed to slow the champion down only knock out blows are counted when you are the challenger.
That is bullshit man... you can win the superbowl with a fumble, you can win the world cup with a dodgy penalty decision.... but you cant win a fight by controlling and inflicting more damage on the champion by fightin smartly and respecting his abilities.. he beat the champion Shogun should be the champion
shogun trained silva in his mui thai when they at chute box, shogun is best. hed beat silva, and u betta believe that shogun won that fight. ida slapped dana white and machida
to us all true mma fans we know shogun won the fight.
stupid judges don't know shit about mma, stick to boxing and please go away.
machidas game has been exposed , spider silva is next because they fight with the same style, they are accurate at striking but they are not invincible .
I thought Shogun won the fight. To me Lyoto Machida won the fight by running away, he was beat up pretty bad, and he was gasing etc. I dunno what the judges were watching, but it was not the Machida vs Shogun fight. As for people being biase about commentary WTF?! The commentators COMMENT on what's happening on the fight. If Shogun is whooping Machida's ass then they will say Machida's ass is getting whooped. If Shogun isn't whooping Machida's ass then they wont say that!
No the commentators missed the speed of Machida's strikes while sniffing Shoguns ass. It was a great fight but UFC is not a fraud. Is was a big illusion we thought Machida was an invincible God and Shogun proved differently. The judges got it right and the people are wrong. GREAT FIGHT EITHER WAY!
We disagreed on four picks this time and went 2-2. You got Rivera and Kingsbury, I got Machida and Struve. Ok, I know you probably want it scored 3-1 since you disagree with the judges, but we have to go with the official decisions or else the contest has no meaning. For example, Kingsbury-Hassan was also close and was a split decision. So we are still tied after 28 predictions:
I agree with you that Shogun won that fight. But, I was extremely disappointed by Machida's performance. He started to gas after the halfway mark and he seemed to "gave up" at certain times during the fight. I guess being champ involves a lot of promo work, which takes time away from training. Shogun went in ready and was 100% focused, whereas Machida did not. I hope he learned his lesson. He should've lost his belt just to get him fired up to improve - like GSP.
Had the fight gone 48-47 for Shogun I would not have argued either. This fight could easily have gone either way based on that first round, which was so close. Shogun said he thought he won the last three rounds -- not the first two. I'm sorry, he did not win round 3 because the most significant flurry by far belonged to Machida. He thinks he won but doesn't lay claim to the first two rounds -- you may disagree, but how the heck do you call this a "robbery"? Watch 1-3 in slo motion on mute
This was an extremely close fight, and to call it a "robbery" is absurd. After the fight I thought that Shogun had won, but I was influenced by both the biased commentary and the final impression of those last two rounds, where Machida was tiring and Shogun was winning. But watch rounds 1-3 in slow motion, with commentary turned off. Machida did win those rounds. He landed the more significant strikes in each, and more often. Watch the exchanges in slow motion and 1-3 go to Machida.
I watched again Rogan and that other guy gave Machedia no credit all they did was talk about Shogun. I think we were brain washed, It a close match but UFC is not a fraud
Wow. I was cheering for Machida, but believe Shogun just got robbed... That is the very worst feeling in the world." - BJ Penn (via Facebook) "Did Shogun win? yeah." - Rampage Jackson (via his website) "Shogun getting robbed like that was pretty cut throat" Link with video: ------Dana White "I thought Shogun won the fight." Yahoo Sports / Cagewriter: 48-47 Rua BloodyElbow : 48-47 Rua USAToday: 48-47 Rua, 49-46 Rua Savage Science: 49-46 Rua ESPN / Jake Rossen: 49-46 or 48-47 Rua
It was a message, can't beat the champ with leg kicks. During boxing flurries I give Machida a slight edge. The rematch will garner more fan interest and money than the first. What else is interesting in the lite-hwt division now? Griffin:Second Rate Liddell:Washed Up Ax:Really Washed Up Couture: luv ya, but hang it up Silva: Real champ Quinton: ATeam, sweet Vera: needs more wins Rashad: Don't care Gerard: UFC sign him please Shogun: Has a rematch and now coveted casual fan support
if u don't think u can beat the champ by leg kicks than i suggest u stick to boxing because u don't wtf u r babbling about.
plenty of fights have been finished with leg kicks in mma.
don't even get me started on k1 & muay thai, go look up the ernesto hoost HL to see what leg kicks can do.
2 more rounds & Lyoto would be sitting on the canvas unable to stand anymore, he was changing stance from rd 3 onwards to save his legs, shogun looked ready to go another 5 rounds, lyoto can't walk lol
Don't get ur panties in a bunch. Did Shogun win an MMA fight in the strict sense, yes. Conspiracy theories aside, I'm just posing a suggestion for how the judges decided points for the fight.
If Machida won the standup and stuffed enough takedowns maybe that scored him the round points. Maybe leg kicks alone aren't enough for UFC judges to hand the belt over.
Suppose the judges didn't have a vested interest in the outcome, how would they pick Machida? Those are my suggestions.
It was a very close fight. I saw it without audio when I got home from work because of the stuff I read on forums. You said that Shogun responded to everything Machida did, well so did Machida if you watch the exchanges again. Everytime Machida got a counter in Shogun rushed in to try to take him down. This fight could have gone either way. I'm not sure why so many say it was a robbery. In my pov, Machida slightly outpointed Shogun, but Shogun did more damage in the end.
i agree but im telling people to watch the fight carefully its not the fight that shogun CLEARLY won, the uniamous decision like i said was too much, maybe a split. ufc its a american business like all sports their going to be bad decisions and great decisions. just pray that the championship fights are not bad decisions.
Lyoto will destroy shogun in a rematch. Can't wait to see it happen...Also don't hate on machida peeps...if you want to hate on someone hate on the UFC in its current state, and Dana White's greed.
biggest robbery i have seen, i was so happy at the end of the fight until the retard judges called it for machida i swear machida did not win a round that excahnge he had he end up getting rocked by shogun's hook. the thing that kills me so badly is it was unanamous.
the rematch is gonna suck ass because machida is gonna be so well prepared now and focused, and there is no way shogun would win.
this fight showed that machida really never had anything to give....machida sucks its just that hes fit and smart but shogun out classed him from all the sparring sessions they have had...im sure silva would knock out machida now lol...with that said i think vitor could knock out silva tho and the whole works of them!
That roid fuck head Dana White would suck dick for money. And you cow shit eating shit kicking Americans are so dumb if you think that man didn't know who is he going to give the belt the minute he step in that ring. He just want to milk some more money from your pockets. And this is finally it for me. I had it with the UFC. American fake smiles and eating shit for money....
All the way man, I bet on Shogun cause I'm a fan and I had a feeling. And Machida was a 4-1 favorite. After the fight I was so stoked cause I was sure Shogun edged it out. I went from elated to totally pissed after they announced the decision. I like Machida, but he's being marketed as this superhuman, and he's not. Machida may be the champ, but he's 15-1 as far as I'm concerned. War Shogun and Ninja!
I liked Machida but after that fight I lost all respect for him. All he had to say was " There's 3 judges and they all gave me the win so I win". My question to Lyoto is do you feel like you won. Shogun is a BEAST and my new favorite fighter in the UFC. They need to remove that lose and make it a draw, Because Shogun did not lose and Lyoto did not win!
Shogun dominated Lyoto in every aspect of that fight. WHAT A SHAME!
what the fuck did shogun do shit nothing but a couple body and leg kicks that not enough to take the belt and machida dogde and counterted alot of his shot aall he had to do was at least take machida down 1once to win but no he failed to do that
A couple of body and leg kicks!? lol That means two leg kicks and two body kicks. Shogun landed far more than just a couple leg and body kicks. He also landed knees to the body and face, and hit Machida hard in the face. The fight stats even go for Shogun. He outstruck Machida 82 to 42, even in the damaging blows. He also took Machida down at the 3 min mark in the 1st round, which people seem to be forgetting.
he did not take him dow machida sliped shogun tried and failed and yeah all he did was leg and body machida won in the clinch shogun only got elbows coming out the clinch lets talk about how machida rocked shogun with them flurries of punches huh
I don't remember a take down by Shogun. He should have done a lot more to win this fight. I didn't really feel like either of them won, so Machida gets to keep his belt.
By the end of the fight his side was welted and red from the numerous round kicks landed by Hua plus his face showed damage with lip split and puffing plus welts and he seemed to be favoring his right leg."
the commentary really can sway people with his commentary .i watched with no sound first, and lyoto landed a lot of body blows of his own and those knees!! like 3 to the body clean.those shogun leg kix were weak it was a draw in my eyes.for real watch with no sound.
why do you dumb machida fans keep bringing up the commentary strawman?
please explain to me why the 10k+ fans who were earlier chanting Machida boo'd him when the decision was announced when they couldn't even hear joe's commentary?
when you can explain that we can talk.
people who watched streams with foreign lang commentary already pointed out that even those commentators had shogun winning even though they were on machida's jock at the start.
you cant agree with what the commentary is saying all the time you gota use your own brain obviously same goes with the crowd they chant dum ass stuff all the time..the crowd probably was booing cuz they thought shogun was pushing it more??usualy its the man thats pushing the fight that gets the crowd...but its not always the pusher that wins
hey dumbass txteabagger, here is what shogun's weak leg & body kicks did according to Bruce Buffer who was cageside, from his blog:
"Watching Machida from cage-side I have to say this is the most punishment I have ever seen him take in the Octagon with the recent factual quote of him "getting hit every two minutes or so in the Octagon" now being history for Lyoto.
hey dip shit can you read i said his LEG kix were weak not his body kix .Why do you have to be rude and call me dumbass?cuz i disagree or have my own opinion?Watch with no sound like i said.
i watched it 3 times u dumb motherfuker, twice without sound just to see wtf the machida cockgobblers lyk u were babbling about & still only gave machida rd 3, so fuk off u cunt.
r u fuking blind or what lyk the judges, did u miss the point where buffer said lyoto seemed to be favoring his right leg, y do u think that was u moron?
lyotos legs were jello.
u still didn't explain y fans boo'd in the arena when they watched it without rogans commentary.
i am rude to u cuz assholes lyk u will make mma go the same way as boxing with corrupt & incompetent judges giving out shitty decisions while dumbasses lyk u justify the decisions cuz they went to the fighter u liked.
i hope next tym shogun brutally ko's machida so that he doesn't get robbed again.
frank trigg on twitter: "somone call the cops, shogun just got robbed"
I'd rather see a panel of MMA experts as judges than a group of judges concerning themselves with numbers (landed hits, takedowns, etc). MMA matches are too short for that. Works for boxing not MMA.
guys next time, try viewing the fight without sound.don't listen to the commentators. in order for showgun to win this fight, he had to do more then just leg kicks. this reminds me of the rampage vs forrest fight, forrest did the same thing. common guys.. you cant leg kick your way to the title.
you also cant just dodge and not hit back?? what happened to MMA? lol your an idiot.. shogun owned the fight.,.... he didnt just do leg kicks, he also tryed to take lyoto down, and he even clinched with him and did alot of numerous things, and machida didnt even grapple or try to at all!! so wtf?? its bull shit.
U see, that's y I believe a fighter should go 4 the tko,ko or sub if available,a fighter should NEVER let it go 2 the judges 4 reason like dis, unless it's total domination/control like Randy did against Tito & Big Tim but than again EVEN that's not always true if u go back 2 Rutten vs Randleman[bas should've lost]or Ricco vs big Nog[nog should've lost]
I think Lyoto should change his nickname to Lyoto "The Sore Legs" Machida for a while cuz Shogun really fucked them up, bet he can't walk straight for the next couple of weeks.
And to think the UFC hypemachie convinced the sheeple enough that they were making threads saying Machida would beat Fedor (lol), still gives me a chuckle when I think about it, oh & they thought Machida had a good chance against Brock hehe.
Machida nuthuggers are in shock, they never expected their karate kid to get beat so soon especially by Shogun whom the UFC nuthuggers were heckling before the fight saying he was a Pride bum who roided without taking into account his acl injuries. He shook up their world with what he did so they need some mutual masturbation about how Machida won to keep them sane & blaming Rogan is part of it.
lol Shogun has his best weapons (soccer kicks & stomps) gone & he still beat the "unbeatable" lyoto.
so did Valuev against Holyfield & Diaz against Paulie you dumb faggot.
Machida got a gift decision & one of the judges is that well known fool Cecil People's who has a history of incompetence.
Shogun won the fight in the eyes of the vast majority of fans (80-90% as polls show), almost every MMA site, the 10k+ fans in the arena, dana, rogan & goldie, almost all pro fighters who commented except josh thompson.
that means more than being awarded a gift decision, lyoto is a paper champ.
Lesson Learned: You can't win a decision with leg kicks!!! PERIOD!!!
If you watch the fight again, so many of those leg kicks were on a leg that had no weight on it. Having no weight on the leg that gets kicked is the same as blocking a punch.
To win the title you need to clearly defeat the champion....and while Shogun probably fought slightly better he clearly didn't do any real damage.
Leg kicks can be effective but if you don't do anything else you don't win the decision.
So in order to win, Shogun needed to throw away his gameplan that was working and get reckless? Evans and Silva showed what reckless gets you- KTFO. Machida took no damage? he changed his stance in the 4th rd to avoid any more damge from the leg kicks. He looked gassed in the 5th.
it was close, but according to the "rules of the octagon" Rua landed more strikes, controlled the pace, and was more aggressive. But it is what is.
yes i agree, im not a huge machida fan nor a huge shogun fan but i dont think he got robed, personaly it seems like all the shogun fighters are getting upset and posting comments, just imo. it was a close fight and no one dominated
No way Rua won the first round, he starts it by eating 4 knees to the body, follows it up with 2-3 failed take downs, and maybe lands 3 real shots in the round.
Watch it again and don't listen to Joe Rogan cheering for Shogun. Most of the shots Shogun did land were counters......meaning he ate solid blows before throwing a leg kick.
Clearly Rogan was cheering for Shogun and made it seem like he was doing more damage than he actually was.
Shogun landed more than 3 shots in rd. 1. He got a few good kicks in there, some good knees, a left hook, and an overhand right that was the best punch in the round. I originally had that for Shogun, but I think its now a draw.
As for rd 2., that was clearly Shogun. He landed the only clean punch in the round which was a jab, had about 5 good kicks to the body, a couple of good knees to the body, and knees to the leg. Machida had 2 good kicks to the body, about 2 knees to the body, and like 1 good kick to the leg.
I don't see how all the judges scored that round for Machida. With the rest of the fight, Machida wins rd. 3, and Shogun clearly wins the last two rounds.
i agree but think about it its pretty hard to come up with one thats fair for all aspects..its like how the worls works lol..a lot of people are living like shit in order for some people to live better..its the way it is it sucks. but in order to live this way it just mite have to be like that..unless someone knows how to completely change and has a plan for everything..its difficult but im rootin for it though!
this is terrible. it's even worse because shogun was so good. Perfect strategy, perfect execution. He cracked the machida code. he deserved the win and he deserved it right then when he did it. not in a rematch, not in the future.
fighters are on their peak for only so long, who knows what will happen in the future, another knee injury? a younger fighter taking the belt?
And the rematch? Does shogun have to change strategy because "you can't beat a champpion with leg kicks?" bullshit.
And 2 answer your question doliveij you only saw what you wanted 2 see because you wanted Rua 2 win so much, Rogan did the same thing every time Rua landed something Rogan would nearly cheer evertime there was an excenge he would onl talk about what Rua landed, Rua landed a kick and Machida a punch in the face Rogan would only talk about the kick, for your own curiosity in case you don't belive me,
His legs & ribs got fucked up, he was limping around from rd 3 onwards, changing his stance to protect his legs.
haha Machida piss drinkers like u r hilarious, blaming joe rogan lol, so how do u explain the 10k+ crowd booing machida whom they were cheering for earlier on because they didn't hear joe rogan commentating.
machida is a paper champ just lyk valuev was after Holyfield got robbed.
just the way it is, i know how much you wanted Rua 2 win but he lost and he wasn't robbed like ou say he was, mabye you can join Rogan and cry togeder :P...
PS I'm not taking anything away from Rua, he is a great fighter and I agree that he deserves a rematch, if he really did as good as you say he did, he will win his rematch...and dont use bad language against the maker of the video he is expressing his oppinion that's all and hes pretty good with MMA I watch all his vids, so don't be an asshole lasku0007.
I'm not saying it wasn't a close fight, but clearly there is a lot of Rua fans posting comments here, say what you will but Machida won that fight, you just saw what you wanted 2 see you just saw the kicks that Rua landed but other than that he didin't do much else xpt 4 a couple of knees the fight is decided by points and Machida scored more of them, 3 judges out of 3 awarded him the fight so it doesn't really matter what you guys say, they r the proffesionals not you...
sorry about raping your comment section lol but yea its too hard to summarize i could go on for way longer but w/e its not worth it hes getting and deserves a rematch so thats good cant wait for it...keep the videos coming there awsum
I said again I think Shogun won by doing more damage..but thats not how it works..lol your obviously taking this to the heart..calm down..yea i dont agree with someone losing a $150 000(dont know exactly how much) fight bonus over that..im not saying i have a solution for that im not working for the ufc..and there was no ass kicking valesquez vs rothwell was ass kicking..there was a better fighter and it was SHOGUN your right i mean anyone can see it
lol i got banned for making those comments earlier...thats bullshit..sorry about all the comments but you asked for some ones opinion and if anyone made it into one paragraph they would of got owned and swarmed...look at every1 now? ban every1 now?...lol nice its the internet where people get to easily express there opinions and i just got duct taped up...love your videos by the way still gona watch em..Caio
u got to really look at it closely cuz its a very close technikal fight..basicly its preferences like if you think a knee is better than a kick or a knees to the leg are more important than this blah blah u get it if you only watched it once or twice..do a 3rd or 4th..still i want to see a rematch...watch as fighter a vs b not shogun vs machida and round by round and it will make sense..now thats by ufc rules i dont agree..but yea there rules machida won...my rules id say shogun..rd1 2 3 machida
not oh he did this in that round and thats hurting him now...because it doenst work like that it works round by round..a lot of people are forgetting about that...second by second machida was more effective EXample : 2.5minutes machida is more effective so shogun has to do equally as good for the last 2.5..if nothing happens for 30seconds and machida gets a kick or w/e shogun has to do MORE to get that round..also just because we saw machida get hit doenst meen he lost...
change my mind lol watched it 2 more times and ROUND BY ROUND is how its scored EFfectiveness and control...machida was smart he didnt try and take him down but shogun did try and couldnt so the judges were thinking okay shogun cant take him down so machida technikaly has more control because we know he cant take him down...and machida hasnt tried so we dont know if he can or cant..thats a plus for machida..if u look closely to the first 3 rounds (round by round)
i believe it was a very close fight not really a big outrage as people are saying.. i thought it was total bullshit at first also...it is bullshit actualy id just say shit...I would give it to shogun....but also make them fight again!
shogun is one of my favourite fighters so is machida but not so much anymore he should of been a man and said he didnt know if he won or atleast said it was close in the post fight conference instead of being a dick and bringing up the judges constantly...my stats arent probably a 100% correct but i did watch it again very closely...theres no actual scale or meter or device to measure how much pain is inflicted to someone but by the looks id say machida was more hurt...
machida gave some pretty hard knees to the body of shogun...he had more punches but they werent too strong none were too devestating but they were still there...he had a couple of flurys where it "looked like shogun was in trouble"...
Shogun: about 8-10 kick points from shogun were the knees given to machida from when he had him up against the cage i counted two of those knees for one point even if some were really weak...
he was the agressor for most of the fight.not too agressive though...hard kicks to the body were his best effective attacks...he also had a couple nice clean punches..
It ain't the judges fault it's shoguns fault for
Gng to a
Decision u Dnt no mma lol
MANAMAORI879 7 months ago
@MANAMAORI879

1st Round KO over Lyoto Machida for all u Machida lovers.
cprince305 1 year ago
I think Machida won 'cause he was never ever put in any danger ! He remained cool and collected T.O. the fight... counter everything Shogun tried ! Take down attempts and take down defence counts points.
Everybody was cheering for Rua, check the one sided Joe Rogan during the fight.
No matter what happened he would only see what Shogun did. Unbelievable !
we will see in the rematch who was right ? Still think TKO for MACHIDA 1st.round.
PS.: you're the best . but got this one wrong !

Why do we need judges anyway we should score mma fights like a video game keep constant track of each fighters stats aggression, damage given, damage taken etc into one life bar.
pimpalimpin1 2 years ago
The bright side of all this is that now we could have Silva/Belfort and Machida/Rua in the same card (maybe for UFC 109-110) because according to Soares, apparently Anderson wont be ready for 108, and that would be an awesome card.
jagc3ve 2 years ago
Although the guy I picked to win won the fight, I gave that fight to Rua (3 rounds to 2). I wouldn't say straight robbery but I think Shogun did enough to win that fight. At some point it reminded me of Paquiao/Marquez II, where I picked Pac to win, but once the decision was announced I was saying something like ''man, I think he lost that fight''.
jagc3ve 2 years ago
Someone else put it very well:
"Shogun won the fight. Machida won the first 3 rounds. The 10 point must system is completely unfit for MMA. "
This is my opinion too. In Pride, Shogun would have won that fight hands down -- and rightly so. As a fight, Shogun won. But with the 10 pt must system, the 48-47 score for Machida is justified and even if it's disputed, it's FAR from a "robbery" and I think that's clear.
10 point must system should be replaced with Pride's philosophy of scoring.

round 5: machida lands 2 great punches a body kick and 4 great knees one hitting the face. shogun lands 4 leg kicks a good elbow and a decent right hand and another good punch. this one is very very close but in my opinion machida seemed to out strike shogun while being very accurate. so its machida simple as that
roycesboy 2 years ago
Rua outlanded Machida 89-50 in Total Strikes landed including 73 Leg Strikes landed. Rua dominated the fight and did just about everything he needed to do to beat Machida and this are compustrike stats.
cremaster0 2 years ago
round 4: machida lands 2 leg kicks a body kick a great head kick and 4 punches and chalks a takedown while being pretty inaccurate. shogun is a little more accurate he lands 6 great leg kicks two good knees and and a great elbow and he sets the pace the whole round. shogun no doubt takes this round with pushing the pace.
roycesboy 2 years ago 2
round 3:machida plays the agressor early landing 2 big punches and 2 body kicks, he lands 2 more body kicks and a good knee. later in a big exchange he pushes the pace and lands 5 effective punches and a bodykick along with being slightly innaccurate missing twice shogun lands 5 very good legkicks a body kick an elbow a good knee and two counter punches what gives machida this round is slightly out striking and the fucking insane inaccuracy of shogun he misses a shit load in this round
roycesboy 2 years ago 2
round 2: machida lands 2 bodykicks 3 punches and a punch that stumbles shogun at the begining of the round, he also lands 3 legkicks and a good knee later he lands a big straight and a big punch as shogun comes in for a kick he was also insanley accurate and dominates the highlightreel after the round shogun lands a good jab 2 good leg kicks 2 bodykicks and had good control against the cage with some knees again very inaccurate completely missing alot of strikes. machida wins this round
roycesboy 2 years ago
i just rewatched the fight, i score the fight 4 to 1 machida i watched as closely as i could with the sound on and off each round round 1:machida won because he landed effective knees and straight punches and a body kick as well as he was very accurate and chalked a couple takedowns while shogun landed a body shot two good leg kicks and a hook to the back of machidas head and had some good pace control against the cage thats it and he was very inaccurate
roycesboy 2 years ago
At 7:37 thats the one thing that sound be stricken from the record. No one can be compared to Fedor. Only Fedor wins every round and Machida is nowhere in the skills of Fedor Emelianenko.
I heard that Rumble weighs 220lbs. That fights at 170lbs. Just like ANderson who cuts from 220lbs to 185lbs. Fighters that cut weight suck.
CavemanJesus4Life 2 years ago
PS I'm not a huge Machida or Rua fan i like the both the same so i doesn't really matter 2 me who won, i enjyoed watching the fight and i'm gonna enjoy the rematch, and even if it was a robbery witch it was not, why ya all hateing on machida, it's not his fault the judges gave him the fight, youre nothing a bunch of frustrated idiots. think ya all pro in fucking judging and scoreing, if ya all that good why aren't you in those chairs in the UFC judging board?
Rapthor01 2 years ago
Machida won round 1,2 and 3. Shogun won 4 and 5 round. Why? Watch the video without Joe Rogans comments and you'll see Shogun didn't really damage Machida, all he did was stalk Machida and throw occasionally leg kicks. Machida on the other hand, mixed his game up pretty well, throwing knees, punches to the head, body kicks etc. He tried to finish the fight.
Shoguns leg kicks didn't do much damage until round 4 and 5 which he won. It's who wins most rounds, not who wins the last one.
Swiifty 2 years ago
The problem you rua fans have, is that you r not able 2 look at this fight in a proffesional way, you see only what you want, you only see rua scoring points, every shot rua trows has a counter, Machida better in the clinch, better boxing, great takedown defence, better counters. Rua better leg kicks, no takedown(a slip 4 Machida that you idiots claim as a takedown), no boxing, better octagon control(questionable). Be realistic or stop posting stupid comments, talking your robbery shit.
Rapthor01 2 years ago
We are all guilty of glorifying the best of the best, but god forbid if they ever appear less than perfect.
We also cheer on the underdogs like Shogun who does the unthinkable. Yeah, before Shogun, no one has put the hurt on Machida.
If they fight again, watch Machida trip and take down Shogun when they clinch with ease. For payback, he will punish Shogun's surgically repaired knees. Machida won't be a 5-1 favorite like before, but he'd still be a 3-1 favorite at least.
tubercolosus 2 years ago
You really should watch some of the pre UFC fights of Shogun. This man was consider the best light heavyweight in the world 3 years ago and for good reason. The old Shogun is back and next time he's not going to let the judges decide.
DexterShawn 2 years ago
Shogun totally shutdown Machida and batter him look at his face after the fight. Machida is not the invincible phenom that a lot of people thought. The fact is not to long ago people like BJ Penn took Machida to a decision for those who don't know who he is the current 155 pound champ. Machida is like Chuck Liddell once you figure him out everyone and his grandmother can beat his ass this still time for Machida show he can change unlike Liddell.
DexterShawn 2 years ago
I've gotta say, man, I've lost some respect when you put that stupid photoshopped picture of Shogun and Machida on your main page. jonnyg is right: get over your blind hatred of Machida. It was an extremely close fight and how any educated and intelligent fan could try to call this a robbery is beyond me...
There was no robbery here. One could argue a razor close decision either way, since rounds 1 and 2 were so close, but this was no robbery according to the UFC's 10 pt must-system.
elmatador404 2 years ago
Going into this fight, it's not like Shogun was Liddell in his prime, with the entire MMA community supporting him. He was the underdog, underestimate, under appreciated and had the vast minority of the support all the way into the 4rth round when the crowd was chanting, "Machida."
And then, the decision came.
And EVERYONE changed their tune. They got angry, flooded message boards, bood and talked about it non stop.
That happens only when a robbery takes place.
And as for respect, oh well.
doliveij 2 years ago
You forgot Sonnen/Okami fight. Chael looked like Randy Couture in his striking & grappling......
CavemanJesus4Life 2 years ago
The answer to the crowd reaction is obvious ... crowds are notoriously fickle. The last impression is what matters, and Shogun was winning the last two rounds of that fight and he won that last round emphatically. That's what the crowd was left seeing, so that obviously sways their reaction.
You would not call this a robbery if the fighers names were switched... it's just bias. There was no robbery here, not even close, and even most fighters who thought Shogun won don't use that word.
elmatador404 2 years ago 2
did it occur to you that one of the reasons they were chanting "Machida" all the way into the 4th round because, up until that round, Machida was winning the fight?

And when he finally said raise your hand, everyone in the mall raised their hand (even those talking on the phone) without knowing why.
tubercolosus 2 years ago
I remember playing Street Fighter and Tekken a long time ago and we used to heckle players who use cheap leg kicks. Yeah, they are still cheap leg kicks today -- safe and cheap leg kicks.
If they get a rematch, Machida will end the fight fast with a torrent of flying fists. He won't take a chance of slowing down in late rounds. The only cuts Machida sustained were from elbows to his face in the 4th or 5th. I know he won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds.
tubercolosus 2 years ago

I dunno about shogun learning from anything except for increasing aggression
but that'll cost him
Still on the Machida bandwagon!

MrSunnyzzzzz 2 years ago
I have to say i owe Machida an apology.
rewatched the fight several times and he did probably take round 1,2,3 even if very close.
4,5 shogun, in round 5 lyoto is visibly hurt and shogun is not quite dominating but clearly the better guy, but if nything we should blae the scoring system not machida.
he did win that fight, or draw with round 2 being 10-10
Rick245 2 years ago
exactly what happened with me.
But Machida wins with UFC scoring.
elmatador404 2 years ago
not round 2 dude,look man its not a semi-contact combat sport, you aren't supposed to score a fight on the number of hits landed, its the amount of damage done;
Machida looked hurt, he was limping, he switched from southpaw to orthodox to protect that side of his ribs!
plus there's aggression, octagon control to consider.
Honestly though, you can say anything before and after a fight, but your body speaks the truth in the fight and you look at Rua and Machida in round five & tell me who won :)
bmwhsv 2 years ago
round 2 is the one you disagree with? rounds 2 and 3 were the clearest machida rounds, even though they were still close. round 1 was very hard to call.
watch round 2 in slow motion. the most significant strikes are machida's. he landed some solid straight punches and even rocked Rua with one of them.
Yes, Rua had all the momentum by the end and did more damage overall. With Pride scoring he would have won. But with UFC's 10 point must system scoring, Machida - barely - won this fight.
elmatador404 2 years ago
Should have talked about Cain vs Rothwell! What the heck?
Maloperverso 2 years ago

If Shogun isn't whooping Machida's ass then they wont say that!
blaze886 2 years ago
No the commentators missed the speed of Machida's strikes while sniffing Shoguns ass. It was a great fight but UFC is not a fraud. Is was a big illusion we thought Machida was an invincible God and Shogun proved differently. The judges got it right and the people are wrong. GREAT FIGHT EITHER WAY!

Race to 100 update:
We disagreed on four picks this time and went 2-2. You got Rivera and Kingsbury, I got Machida and Struve. Ok, I know you probably want it scored 3-1 since you disagree with the judges, but we have to go with the official decisions or else the contest has no meaning. For example, Kingsbury-Hassan was also close and was a split decision. So we are still tied after 28 predictions:
doliveij: 18/28, 64%
elmatador404: 18/28, 64%
I will predict first for the next event.
elmatador404 2 years ago
I agree with you that Shogun won that fight. But, I was extremely disappointed by Machida's performance. He started to gas after the halfway mark and he seemed to "gave up" at certain times during the fight. I guess being champ involves a lot of promo work, which takes time away from training. Shogun went in ready and was 100% focused, whereas Machida did not. I hope he learned his lesson. He should've lost his belt just to get him fired up to improve - like GSP.
EXpressDTruth 2 years ago
Had the fight gone 48-47 for Shogun I would not have argued either. This fight could easily have gone either way based on that first round, which was so close. Shogun said he thought he won the last three rounds -- not the first two. I'm sorry, he did not win round 3 because the most significant flurry by far belonged to Machida. He thinks he won but doesn't lay claim to the first two rounds -- you may disagree, but how the heck do you call this a "robbery"? Watch 1-3 in slo motion on mute
elmatador404 2 years ago
This was an extremely close fight, and to call it a "robbery" is absurd. After the fight I thought that Shogun had won, but I was influenced by both the biased commentary and the final impression of those last two rounds, where Machida was tiring and Shogun was winning. But watch rounds 1-3 in slow motion, with commentary turned off. Machida did win those rounds. He landed the more significant strikes in each, and more often. Watch the exchanges in slow motion and 1-3 go to Machida.

I actually thought that fight was amazing. It was technically brilliant.
NotRightN0w 2 years ago
also add rumble johnson & wandy (duh!) to the list of pro fighters who thought shogun won.
banda106 2 years ago
fighters who thought shogun won: bj, rampage, kenny, carwin, cain, escudero, gurgel, lauzon, ben henderson, jon jones, enson inoue, trigg, varner, kang, joe doerksen, kit cope.
fighters who scored it a draw: josh barnett
fighters who thought lyoto won: josh thompson & anderson (lyoto's bff who thought lyoto won all 5 rds haha).
i guess all those pro fighters also got brainwashed by rogan according to machida nuthuggers lol.
banda106 2 years ago
i think Dana should set up the rematch at UFC 106 now that Brock vs Carwin is cancelled which will really expose all this lyoto being the "winner" bs.
Shogun will be ready, hell he looked ready to go another 5 rounds right after the fight was done.
Lyoto otoh won't even be able to walk properly let alone fight a rematch at UFC 106 because his legs are so sore, some "winner" that is.
I hope in the rematch Shogun brutally KO's him so that he won't get robbed again lyk that.

if u don't think u can beat the champ by leg kicks than i suggest u stick to boxing because u don't wtf u r babbling about.
plenty of fights have been finished with leg kicks in mma.
don't even get me started on k1 & muay thai, go look up the ernesto hoost HL to see what leg kicks can do.
2 more rounds & Lyoto would be sitting on the canvas unable to stand anymore, he was changing stance from rd 3 onwards to save his legs, shogun looked ready to go another 5 rounds, lyoto can't walk lol
banda106 2 years ago
Don't get ur panties in a bunch. Did Shogun win an MMA fight in the strict sense, yes. Conspiracy theories aside, I'm just posing a suggestion for how the judges decided points for the fight.
If Machida won the standup and stuffed enough takedowns maybe that scored him the round points. Maybe leg kicks alone aren't enough for UFC judges to hand the belt over.
Suppose the judges didn't have a vested interest in the outcome, how would they pick Machida? Those are my suggestions.
sskillma 2 years ago
Rua got robbed i was at the fight even the Machida fans agreed with me
Lionkrew12 2 years ago
It was a very close fight. I saw it without audio when I got home from work because of the stuff I read on forums. You said that Shogun responded to everything Machida did, well so did Machida if you watch the exchanges again. Everytime Machida got a counter in Shogun rushed in to try to take him down. This fight could have gone either way. I'm not sure why so many say it was a robbery. In my pov, Machida slightly outpointed Shogun, but Shogun did more damage in the end.
tldinh 2 years ago
i agree but im telling people to watch the fight carefully its not the fight that shogun CLEARLY won, the uniamous decision like i said was too much, maybe a split. ufc its a american business like all sports their going to be bad decisions and great decisions. just pray that the championship fights are not bad decisions.

I lost 7 dollars cuz of fuckin retarted refs.
fakeccount 2 years ago
this fight showed that machida really never had anything to give....machida sucks its just that hes fit and smart but shogun out classed him from all the sparring sessions they have had...im sure silva would knock out machida now lol...with that said i think vitor could knock out silva tho and the whole works of them!

this should have been a draw. if showgun at least
had 1 take down then id him the match and even though lyoto's legs where battered, he was still able to dodge a lot of shots.
kejoch 2 years ago
All the way man, I bet on Shogun cause I'm a fan and I had a feeling. And Machida was a 4-1 favorite. After the fight I was so stoked cause I was sure Shogun edged it out. I went from elated to totally pissed after they announced the decision. I like Machida, but he's being marketed as this superhuman, and he's not. Machida may be the champ, but he's 15-1 as far as I'm concerned. War Shogun and Ninja!
WartoothisGod 2 years ago
I liked Machida but after that fight I lost all respect for him. All he had to say was " There's 3 judges and they all gave me the win so I win". My question to Lyoto is do you feel like you won. Shogun is a BEAST and my new favorite fighter in the UFC. They need to remove that lose and make it a draw, Because Shogun did not lose and Lyoto did not win!
Shogun dominated Lyoto in every aspect of that fight. WHAT A SHAME!
truthkilla 2 years ago
what the fuck did shogun do shit nothing but a couple body and leg kicks that not enough to take the belt and machida dogde and counterted alot of his shot aall he had to do was at least take machida down 1once to win but no he failed to do that
kbid585 2 years ago
A couple of body and leg kicks!? lol That means two leg kicks and two body kicks. Shogun landed far more than just a couple leg and body kicks. He also landed knees to the body and face, and hit Machida hard in the face. The fight stats even go for Shogun. He outstruck Machida 82 to 42, even in the damaging blows. He also took Machida down at the 3 min mark in the 1st round, which people seem to be forgetting.
marbs0204 2 years ago
he did not take him dow machida sliped shogun tried and failed and yeah all he did was leg and body machida won in the clinch shogun only got elbows coming out the clinch lets talk about how machida rocked shogun with them flurries of punches huh
kbid585 2 years ago
I don't remember a take down by Shogun. He should have done a lot more to win this fight. I didn't really feel like either of them won, so Machida gets to keep his belt.
johneblaze82 2 years ago
By the end of the fight his side was welted and red from the numerous round kicks landed by Hua plus his face showed damage with lip split and puffing plus welts and he seemed to be favoring his right leg."

wow..saeir has some good points
but i still believe that shogun won..i dont understand how al three judges could score it for machida..he didnt do anything but back pedal
kingmj100 2 years ago
the commentary really can sway people with his commentary .i watched with no sound first, and lyoto landed a lot of body blows of his own and those knees!! like 3 to the body clean.those shogun leg kix were weak it was a draw in my eyes.for real watch with no sound.
txteabagger 2 years ago
why do you dumb machida fans keep bringing up the commentary strawman?
please explain to me why the 10k+ fans who were earlier chanting Machida boo'd him when the decision was announced when they couldn't even hear joe's commentary?
when you can explain that we can talk.
people who watched streams with foreign lang commentary already pointed out that even those commentators had shogun winning even though they were on machida's jock at the start.
it was a robbery, nothing less.
banda106 2 years ago
you cant agree with what the commentary is saying all the time you gota use your own brain obviously same goes with the crowd they chant dum ass stuff all the time..the crowd probably was booing cuz they thought shogun was pushing it more??usualy its the man thats pushing the fight that gets the crowd...but its not always the pusher that wins
saeir 2 years ago
hey dumbass txteabagger, here is what shogun's weak leg & body kicks did according to Bruce Buffer who was cageside, from his blog:
"Watching Machida from cage-side I have to say this is the most punishment I have ever seen him take in the Octagon with the recent factual quote of him "getting hit every two minutes or so in the Octagon" now being history for Lyoto.
banda106 2 years ago
hey dip shit can you read i said his LEG kix were weak not his body kix .Why do you have to be rude and call me dumbass?cuz i disagree or have my own opinion?Watch with no sound like i said.
txteabagger 2 years ago
i watched it 3 times u dumb motherfuker, twice without sound just to see wtf the machida cockgobblers lyk u were babbling about & still only gave machida rd 3, so fuk off u cunt.
r u fuking blind or what lyk the judges, did u miss the point where buffer said lyoto seemed to be favoring his right leg, y do u think that was u moron?
lyotos legs were jello.
u still didn't explain y fans boo'd in the arena when they watched it without rogans commentary.
banda106 2 years ago
i am rude to u cuz assholes lyk u will make mma go the same way as boxing with corrupt & incompetent judges giving out shitty decisions while dumbasses lyk u justify the decisions cuz they went to the fighter u liked.
i hope next tym shogun brutally ko's machida so that he doesn't get robbed again.
frank trigg on twitter: "somone call the cops, shogun just got robbed"
that sums up my opinion.
banda106 2 years ago
I'd rather see a panel of MMA experts as judges than a group of judges concerning themselves with numbers (landed hits, takedowns, etc). MMA matches are too short for that. Works for boxing not MMA.
Noc4ball 2 years ago
guys next time, try viewing the fight without sound.don't listen to the commentators. in order for showgun to win this fight, he had to do more then just leg kicks. this reminds me of the rampage vs forrest fight, forrest did the same thing. common guys.. you cant leg kick your way to the title.
kejoch 2 years ago
you also cant just dodge and not hit back?? what happened to MMA? lol your an idiot.. shogun owned the fight.,.... he didnt just do leg kicks, he also tryed to take lyoto down, and he even clinched with him and did alot of numerous things, and machida didnt even grapple or try to at all!! so wtf?? its bull shit.
Mannypacquia0 2 years ago
U see, that's y I believe a fighter should go 4 the tko,ko or sub if available,a fighter should NEVER let it go 2 the judges 4 reason like dis, unless it's total domination/control like Randy did against Tito & Big Tim but than again EVEN that's not always true if u go back 2 Rutten vs Randleman[bas should've lost]or Ricco vs big Nog[nog should've lost]
HarlemEssence 2 years ago
I think Lyoto should change his nickname to Lyoto "The Sore Legs" Machida for a while cuz Shogun really fucked them up, bet he can't walk straight for the next couple of weeks.
And to think the UFC hypemachie convinced the sheeple enough that they were making threads saying Machida would beat Fedor (lol), still gives me a chuckle when I think about it, oh & they thought Machida had a good chance against Brock hehe.
banda106 2 years ago
Machida nuthuggers are in shock, they never expected their karate kid to get beat so soon especially by Shogun whom the UFC nuthuggers were heckling before the fight saying he was a Pride bum who roided without taking into account his acl injuries. He shook up their world with what he did so they need some mutual masturbation about how Machida won to keep them sane & blaming Rogan is part of it.
lol Shogun has his best weapons (soccer kicks & stomps) gone & he still beat the "unbeatable" lyoto.
banda106 2 years ago 2
Guess what, Lyoto didn't lose. He won.
45axelh 2 years ago
so did Valuev against Holyfield & Diaz against Paulie you dumb faggot.

Leg kicks can be effective but if you don't do anything else you don't win the decision.
gordbillybob 2 years ago
So in order to win, Shogun needed to throw away his gameplan that was working and get reckless? Evans and Silva showed what reckless gets you- KTFO. Machida took no damage? he changed his stance in the 4th rd to avoid any more damge from the leg kicks. He looked gassed in the 5th.
it was close, but according to the "rules of the octagon" Rua landed more strikes, controlled the pace, and was more aggressive. But it is what is.

cep0826 2 years ago
yes i agree, im not a huge machida fan nor a huge shogun fan but i dont think he got robed, personaly it seems like all the shogun fighters are getting upset and posting comments, just imo. it was a close fight and no one dominated

Round 1: Rua (Just) or a draw... Round 2: Machida (just)... Round 3: Machida (no question)...Round 4: Rua (Just)... Round 5: Rua (No Question).... But Unanomous Decision Machida F**K that man!
PaulRattlehead 2 years ago
You gave round 2 to Machida? Based on what?
southerndevil 2 years ago
No way Rua won the first round, he starts it by eating 4 knees to the body, follows it up with 2-3 failed take downs, and maybe lands 3 real shots in the round.
Watch it again and don't listen to Joe Rogan cheering for Shogun. Most of the shots Shogun did land were counters......meaning he ate solid blows before throwing a leg kick.
Clearly Rogan was cheering for Shogun and made it seem like he was doing more damage than he actually was.
gordbillybob 2 years ago
Shogun landed more than 3 shots in rd. 1. He got a few good kicks in there, some good knees, a left hook, and an overhand right that was the best punch in the round. I originally had that for Shogun, but I think its now a draw.
marbs0204 2 years ago
As for rd 2., that was clearly Shogun. He landed the only clean punch in the round which was a jab, had about 5 good kicks to the body, a couple of good knees to the body, and knees to the leg. Machida had 2 good kicks to the body, about 2 knees to the body, and like 1 good kick to the leg.
I don't see how all the judges scored that round for Machida. With the rest of the fight, Machida wins rd. 3, and Shogun clearly wins the last two rounds.
marbs0204 2 years ago
Failed takedowns maybe... but still controlled machida against the cage landed knees. octagon control.
But anyway you look at it Round 1 is the deciding round and i'd give it to shogun just barely
PaulRattlehead 2 years ago
Something needs to be done about the scoring system and about having judges with a deep MMA knowledge, and as weve seen its pretty damn urgent!!!!!!!!
Too damn often do we get complete ludacris scorecards, its like they hardly even watching the same fights.
Come on UFC come up with a complete guide to scroing fights, one that is very very concrete, one that leads nothing out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do it cause Im sure most mma fans are dead tired of bad judging.
fumbaxt 2 years ago
i agree but think about it its pretty hard to come up with one thats fair for all aspects..its like how the worls works lol..a lot of people are living like shit in order for some people to live better..its the way it is it sucks. but in order to live this way it just mite have to be like that..unless someone knows how to completely change and has a plan for everything..its difficult but im rootin for it though!
saeir 2 years ago
this is terrible. it's even worse because shogun was so good.
Loomr 2 years ago
And 2 answer your question doliveij you only saw what you wanted 2 see because you wanted Rua 2 win so much, Rogan did the same thing every time Rua landed something Rogan would nearly cheer evertime there was an excenge he would onl talk about what Rua landed, Rua landed a kick and Machida a punch in the face Rogan would only talk about the kick, for your own curiosity in case you don't belive me,
Rapthor01 2 years ago
only a retard would give machida 4 rounds.
Machida didn't do shit.
Shogun the true champ in fans eyes

Yes they are the professionals but do they understand MMA on a total and complete level!?!?
I think they lack to see the depth of that fight.
Shogun came out and beat Machida at his own very game... a fukk it.
The champ obviously has a round won just for being the champ, as in he starts with 10-0 on the score cards.
Now I think most of the MMA world knows Shogun is the nr. 1 LHW fighter!!!!!!
fumbaxt 2 years ago
PS I'm not taking anything away from Rua, he is a great fighter and I agree that he deserves a rematch, if he really did as good as you say he did, he will win his rematch...and dont use bad language against the maker of the video he is expressing his oppinion that's all and hes pretty good with MMA I watch all his vids, so don't be an asshole lasku0007.

I'm not saying it wasn't a close fight, but clearly there is a lot of Rua fans posting comments here, say what you will but Machida won that fight, you just saw what you wanted 2 see you just saw the kicks that Rua landed but other than that he didin't do much else xpt 4 a couple of knees the fight is decided by points and Machida scored more of them, 3 judges out of 3 awarded him the fight so it doesn't really matter what you guys say, they r the proffesionals not you...

u got to really look at it closely cuz its a very close technikal fight..basicly its preferences like if you think a knee is better than a kick or a knees to the leg are more important than this blah blah u get it if you only watched it once or twice..do a 3rd or 4th..still i want to see a rematch...watch as fighter a vs b not shogun vs machida and round by round and it will make sense..now thats by ufc rules i dont agree..but yea there rules machida won...my rules id say shogun..rd1 2 3 machida

saeir 2 years ago
not oh he did this in that round and thats hurting him now...because it doenst work like that it works round by round..a lot of people are forgetting about that...second by second machida was more effective EXample : 2.5minutes machida is more effective so shogun has to do equally as good for the last 2.5..if nothing happens for 30seconds and machida gets a kick or w/e shogun has to do MORE to get that round..also just because we saw machida get hit doenst meen he lost...
saeir 2 years ago
change my mind lol watched it 2 more times and ROUND BY ROUND is how its scored EFfectiveness and control...machida was smart he didnt try and take him down but shogun did try and couldnt so the judges were thinking okay shogun cant take him down so machida technikaly has more control because we know he cant take him down...and machida hasnt tried so we dont know if he can or cant..thats a plus for machida..if u look closely to the first 3 rounds (round by round)
saeir 2 years ago
i believe it was a very close fight not really a big outrage as people are saying.. i thought it was total bullshit at first also...it is bullshit actualy id just say shit...I would give it to shogun....but also make them fight again!
saeir 2 years ago
shogun is one of my favourite fighters so is machida but not so much anymore he should of been a man and said he didnt know if he won or atleast said it was close in the post fight conference instead of being a dick and bringing up the judges constantly...my stats arent probably a 100% correct but i did watch it again very closely...theres no actual scale or meter or device to measure how much pain is inflicted to someone but by the looks id say machida was more hurt...
saeir 2 years ago
machida gave some pretty hard knees to the body of shogun...he had more punches but they werent too strong none were too devestating but they were still there...he had a couple of flurys where it "looked like shogun was in trouble"...
saeir 2 years ago
Shogun: about 8-10 kick points from shogun were the knees given to machida from when he had him up against the cage i counted two of those knees for one point even if some were really weak...
he was the agressor for most of the fight.not too agressive though...hard kicks to the body were his best effective attacks...he also had a couple nice clean punches..
