@ChrisAtWar93 hahahaha, looking at my profile thts a little sad, also how old is mike now?, and when did the fight happen? mike was around 21. Calling someone by there nickname shows more knowledge if anything.
@stefanoBN proof read when your trying to act smart, and if u show some one a picture of mike tyson and ask them who tht is and they say "thts iron mike tyson" they most likely know him form boxing and not the hangover, same with Big george foreman and the grill.
@stefanoBN You responed a week ago on a comment from 3 months ago........"no sense words".........nonsense maybe*, please dont argue you're case at all, just call me stupid in nonstandard English.
@stefanoBN Douglas' mom died like a month before the fight took place. Everyone's got excuses, real strength is learning how to overcome them. Discipline and diligence are far more useful skills than speed or power. Douglas whooped an undefeated, young Tyson. In that fight we got to see how tough the fighters were on the inside, where the pressure of life had cracked Tyson, Douglas had pulled through. No matter how you spin it, Tyson got his ass kicked.
@b0x1n9f4n everyone like you got excuses...but not me. And the Douglas mom died was a very ridicoulous excuses.
The scandal with Desirè Washington was not an excuse, it was the beginning of the Tyson end. The beginning of his financial problems. Before to meet Douglas, Tyson was more in courts or police stations than in the tings for trainings.
Tyson Douglas was the upset of the century, more than Foreman vs Jimmy Young.
@MannyMMA What ? No Zale v Graziano or Louis v Conn, Moore V Durelle , Basilio V De Marco. Louis was way past his best against Marciano. I think you need to see more old fighters, Old timers in Australia swore that Les Darcy V Eddie McGoorty I & II were such great fights, that they had to be seen to be believed.
man those knockouts are nasty and today they would have stopped some of em without even counting! back then they count even when its obvious he will not get up. i love how things change
What if some aren't a good judge of talent and they can't see a difference? Maybe some pick fighters that remind them of themselves and they want people to say that their fighter is the best?
As for moving BETTER there is debatably no one in the history of the heavyweight division, especially if you factor in style. Jersey-Joe Walcott danced similarly to Ali however. As for ring movement, fighters like Holmes and Michael Spinks used the ring incredibly well, again not witht the grace of Ali, but still used it well.
I didn't appreciate that you mean't only in the Heavyweights, there are a few imitators of Ali, but there will only be one Muhammad Ali.
you guys call me a moron. Well tell me idiots. Where is the glory in running from your opponents. You can dodge and weave and not get hit and still stand toe to toe with a man. You can watch Pernell Whitaker and see what a true fighter is about. Thats why Duran quit. No mas. Sugar is a total chicken. Hits and then runs awayand laughs in ur face. He didn't want to continue cuz the guy isnt a fighter. Rocky, Dempsey the real greats never ran. When have you seen sugar ray rob running ?
I love the way the refs are counting out fighters that are clearly, either, out cold or incapacitated.
They peel fighters who're struggling to stand from the ropes and push them back into the fight so they can get even more fucked up. I think things are definitely better now.
The only reason Ali lasted in thrilla in manilla and most of his other boxing fights is because he winged it the whole way. Dances around his opponents till their tired. What kind of a real boxer is he ? Doesn't step toe to toe with any of the real boxers. Frazier woulda crushed him had he not danced around the ring like as if he was in spain with roses in his mouth bull fighting. Plain and simple. Ali is a bum. Toe to Toe Tyson kills ali. Foreman is quite bigger so Im not sure about him.
are you joking? George Foreman DID fight Ali, and Ali LET FOREMAN PUNCH HIM ALMOST ALL FIGHT LONG!! foreman is bigger, he punched Ali til he got tired and then ALI KNOCKED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM!! ..u shouldn't talk if you dont even know anything about boxing.
agree. that guy is a moron! he knows nothing. try boxing and see how long you last with that style. you use the skills you were given not just stand toe to toe and hit until one is down. wow! plus Ali didn't just dance around retard he would let people pound on him until they were wore out. you know nothing,
Boxing is a olympic discipline, it's not street fighting but a noble art. Ali mastered ring movement like no other in history. He fought guys who were stronger then him and won cause of his ring intelligence and great atletic ability. If you want to see two animals go 2 to 2 just go the Zoo when they feed the apes.
you want to see 2 animals fight go to jail. Ring Discipline ? You want to see ring discipline go and see whitaker sweet pea. The art of defensive boxing. And he never ran from his opponents. Ali gets no respect from me. None of the true P4P fighters ever ran. They would stand toe to toe with you or stand over you. I would've asked for a refund if ali had fought in our time. Thats like going to see wrestling and all the guy is doing is running around the ring cuz it tires his opponent.
By better do you mean grace or effectiveness? Nobody had more grace than Ali, but quite a few boxers where equally effective in using the ring; Genne Tunney, Jack Johnson, Larry Holmes and there should be more but as of right now these are the only ones that come to mind.
Keep in mind that Johnson and Tunney fought old school fighters who didn't have footwork like in Ali's day. But those guys were selfscholed. That makes them very special.
About effectiveness, exept for Holmes i don't know anybody who could match Ali. Keep in mind that we talk about the dancing Ali who humiliated Liston 2x, not the ali after his exile. Besides effectiveness grace counts 2, a boxer is also an entertainer, that's just the way it is.
Well, you do make a point about boxers being entertainers and while I do agree that Ali was among the very best movers ever, I still believe there where others that where right there in the same level but in their own style. That is just my opinion, but I do undestand and respect yours.
I don't want to hear anything about ali being the greatest. You want to talk Greats then mention these names. #1 Jack Dempsey. Fought 140 fights. Most boxers dont even reach 40. Joe Louis had a 10 year reign as champion. Max Baer almost killed 2 people in the ring with the undisputed hard right hand punching power in the history of the sport with an 80 inch reach. Marciano had 1000 pounds of pressure per punch when he was in his prime. Sugar Ray is the complete fighter period.
Dempsey was great yeah, but he was no gentleman... he was a brutal brawling farmer, who was feared inside the ring and respected outside, but never no gentelman.. gene tunney was a gentleman yes, but no dmpsey
"Our" Henry Cooper hammerd Clay. They used salts and cut his gloves and took far too long to retrieve a new pair. I think Clay stopped Henry in the fifth like he predicted before the fight. Ali said Henry slugged him so hard his ancestors in Africa felt the punch.
tyson no heart, couldn't take a punch just a bully who when somebody punched him back he would lay down, quit or just bite their ear so he wouldn't get knocked out Again. tyson KO'd 3 times,TKO'd Twice and DQ'd Once. Ali fought and Won more fights than tyson. ALI's Star lasted a lot longer than tyson's.
One of the more gruesome things is that left Marciano throws at Walcott's head after he's down on the second rope clearly not defending himself. Maybe it just looks worse in slow-mo.
I think it's amazing that we're still talking about Dempsey-Tunney II after all these years. It's always seemed to me that Tunney was aware of the count and probably could have gotten up sooner, but was milking his breather as long as the ref was allowing it. We'll never know for sure.
i listened to all 3 zale-graziano fights. does anyone remember mel allen calling one of the fights? he and his then baseball sidekick, russ hodges, teamed up for one of them. i think it was the third, but i may be wrong. i listened for mel's voice on the high-lighted third fight, but i was unable to tell for sure. could have been him.
No way, Tyson all the way... was the greatest fighter ever. He just had too many demons inside himself and all around him and they got the better of him. But if you take all the other greats in their prime and compare them to Mike when he first won the title at 20....forget it Iron Mike hands down. The best to ever fight in the ring.
Apparently, you've never boxed, or you'd realize that heart is an actual factor, not just strength and aggression. That's why Tyson is NOT the greatest.
Tyson wasnt just strength and aggression he was skill! And heart.... He was the best period... when you look at boxers over all few could have taken him in his prime. Unfortunately for him his vices (women) got the better of him.
You don't know Tyson too well, do you? Rather than start screaming back at you, I'll state some simple facts concluding that Tyson is not the greatest. After D'Amato's death, Tyson's self-confidence was maintained by his D'Amato-taught trainer, Kevin Rooney, not Tyson himself, which allowed him to hone his skills further than many. D'Amato was the best trainer ever, and you have to take that asset into account for someone like Tyson, who relied so heavily on such father figures.
Now consider the fact that Floyd Patterson, another D'Amato-trained fighter, barely laid a glove on Ali in his prime. Patterson's speed roughly matched Tyson's, but Ali kept him off while taunting him constantly as he casually punched Floyd in the face. Tyson's strength doesn't come into it much. He wouldn't have many chances to hit Ali, much like Liston. Ali would either carry the fight to the distance, or wear him out, more likely the latter, since Tyson's stamina wasn't stellar.
Patterson knocked down Henry Cooper easily. Whereas Ali not onlu got Knocked down by Cooper but had to resort to cheating (his ringside team) to beat Cooper.
Floyd Patterson must have been a liar for saying that prior to both Liston vs ALi matches, an informant came into their room and told them Liston was going to throw the fights. Patterson remembers people rushing around at the last moment (as soon as they heard the informant) to bet all their money on ALi instead.
Louis could have knocked out Tyson within 3 rounds. Louis k.o. Tony Musto who had Tyson's style and built. Louis destroyed Musto in 4 rounds. END OF DISCUSSION.
Great stuff, thanks for posting! Floyd Patterson celebrating his regaining the belt for about 3 seconds then going over and taking a knee to check on his fallen opponent, classy. I'm so glad I'm not a boxer! LOL
In the 2nd Dempsey/Tunney fight the rules had been changed so that a fighter had to go to a neutral corner after knocking their opponent down before the ref could start to count,(In the old days they were allowed to just stand over their downed opponent), When Dempsey knocked Tunney down he was not used to the new rule thus he just stands there for a cuppla seconds then realises the ref ain't counting and then goes to the neutral corner ..
Really cool clip--thanks for posting. I think it's a shame that S.I. didn't mention that Schmelling did not support Hitler's views and actually became a close friend of Louis's.

Liston fights against Ali were both fixed. So it is a waste of time talking about those fights.
Tyson was VERY FAST. You are deluded if you think Tyson was not quick enough to hit Ali.
You are correct about Tyson relying too much on D'Mato. But still, whilst D'Mato was there for him he was one of the best ever.

It's insane watching the ref let Graziano fight on, he's clearly finished.

Really cool clip--thanks for posting. I think it's a shame that S.I. didn't mention that Schmelling did not support Hitler's views and actually became a close friend of Louis's.

After the second fight he was forced into combat with the German paratroopers

If interested in a good read check out Schmelling's autobiography, amazing life and a really good man.
