  • ´Even chezzery than the 2009 movie.

  • Now THAT'S classic

  • It's a little bit strange for me because it's different from japanese original version.

  • One of my fave cartoons when I was a kid.

  • 0:50 astro boy vs kkk

  • astroboy yucateco ; pon esas palabras en el buscador, ha ha era mi heroe y eso que ya tengo 40 años...!!

  • Beating the shit out of the KKK FTW

  • saw this on adult swim and loved it

  • "ASTRO BOY" was seen in New York, Bowling Green, Ky., Nashville, Tn., Los Angeles- and everywhere else NBC Films was able to syndicate the series when it was introduced in September 1963 (some stations did not carry it, though).

  • Go Astro!

  • Really...wow!

  • Astro boy is the first anime...is it true?

  • @Vixenfox259 yes. As I understand it , it was the first anime to be shown in the US from Japan in the early-to-mid 60's. I also believe that Cartoon Network and/or Boomerang showed retro episodes of Astro Boy as a side promo for Astro Boy: the Movie. Hope this answers your question.

  • @TheSV3 This does answer my question thank you! My goodness anime sure is diffrent now back then it was all about teamwork now most of anime today is sexist.

  • @Vixenfox259 I don't think it was the first anime ever, but it was the first with a consistant plot and characters, and the first to broadcast outside of japan.

  • @Vixenfox259 Yes it was, the first to come in 20 minutes format, and ready to sell outside Japan

  • @Vixenfox259 The first anime to be fully recognized by the public, but there have been earlier animes.

  • Nothing like the original! I fondly remember watching this all the time when I was a kid..thanks for posting!

  • That was awesome,I love Asto Boy.

  • Lol KKK

  • After ASTROBOY was on tv , Kimba ,GIGANTOR, 8THMAN AND SPEED RACER, all within a year or two. It was a great time to be a kid. We had Anime since 1964 in NYC. Plus tons of other cartoons new and old, it was a child paradise of endless cartoons and kid shows like Soupy Sales , Chuck McCann, Officer Joe Bolton, Captain Jack McCarthy Sorry to say, kids tv is terrible now.

  • @1952kid You mentioned you had Astro Boy in NYC, but I recall in the mid 60s, we actually had this cartoon, of all places, in Bowling Green, KY--it could have been broadcast from Nashville, TN since Bowling Green is about 50 miles north of Nashville. But when we moved from Bowling Green to another part of KY, no one knew what I was talking about in reference to Astro Boy. I really like this cartoon as a kid.

  • Love AstroBoy<3

  • haha was that the klan in tuxedos at :50? i didn't know they had a sense of style

  • Yep, i just checked on tezuka in english site, the 1960's episode 32 Moon Monsters was the only full color 1960's episode, but it was shown in b/w on tv. Wow , a rare color 1960's Astroboy.

  • I just watched a 1963 '' COLOR'' Astroboy , Moon Monsters. I was convinced they were all in B/W. being one of the reasons it was taken off the air. Everyone wanted color in the 1960's. Anyone have any info on this color episope.

  • OMG! I SO remember watching this allllllll the time!!! lololol......like...when the characters on Johnny Quest had actual mouthes...lololol

  • is that the kkk?

  • where can i get the comic?

  • Are we old or what?

God, I remember watching this, along with Kimba the Lion, Tobor the 8th Man, Marine Boy, and Hercules early mornings.

They sure don't make 'em like these anymore. *sniff*

  • as aperson of the young generation ,i find that nothing still beats the classics.they sure don't make music like they used to either

  • Astroboy was the first time in my life I saw a hero who stood up for someone who was different and oppressed. The Episode where he

saves the little human boy from being stuck in the water pipes. The people hated the robots and wanted to destroy them. It made me feel there was hope in this world for people like me.

  • Nothing is as good as the original, this cartoon started all American anime. The first thing we noticed was the really big eyes on the characters,a totally new look for cartoons. And a theme song like we never heard before,it was great. Still is.

  • I have seen the trailer for the new film and I have got say I am bitterly disappointed. It is just plain awful. Not true to the original and contemptuous of the kids who watched it all those years ago. I just hope with all my might they never decide to remake Prince Planet. I'm afraid that would be just too much to take.

  • If they used the 1963 cartoon , no one would go,except people in their 50's . Its better that Astro is going strong and not forgotten. Even though i watched Astroboy as a new cartoon in the 1960's in B/W, im glad he's still around for new generations to enjoy. The new movie will spark kids to investigate the origins of Astroboy. So, dont worry after kids watch this new movie, they will wind up seaching out and watching the original 1963 version on dvd.

  • Oh, man! I'm all choked up!

I had such a love-hate feeling toward Astro Boy as a little girl. I loved the song but wasn't too thrilled about the "weird" way it was drawn. (In comparison, Fractured Fairytales and Casper the Friendly Ghost were my favs, and I loved how FF was drawn.)

Seeing Astro Boy now all these DECADES later sure brings back memories.

    Thanks so much for posting.

  • Something that i could never figure out, why are some signs and words in the cartoon written in english when it was made for Japanese kids? Other cartoons like 8thman have all Japanese signs on the buildings and doors.

  • they were probably going for a version that would appeal to an international audience. plus english is cool in the east like how japanese is cool n the west.

  • Great thanks!!!!!!! But, you know you're old when a cartoon was in black and white on the year you were born .

  • a real hero boy cartoon we were lucky i feel sorry for the kids whose hero was that stupid fuckup barney lol

  • I just bought the complete boxset of the original 1960's version and am surprised that the overall theme has not changed from it's future versions. I happen to own 2 versions and my bro has the 2000's version.

Truly a character that can stand the test of time. I just wish that they would release the original Japanese version instead of just putting two of them as a special bonus.

  • funny

  • 0:33 doesn't that look like Monstro the Whale firing his Laser

  • 0:50

Astro Boy really kicks some bad guys ass. Even KKK soliders!

  • I am not sheer that was the kkk, they were wearing tuxedos .

  • This is the opening for all the 1963 till 1966 American dubbed ASRTOBOY TV cartoons,, We watched in NYC starting in 1963 as an after school cartoon in black and white only. Then a new color one in the 1980's and a new one again in 2003 i believe. So annyone you know who is over 50 years old knows the 1963 version as thier cartoon. The 1963 Astroboy was never in color or colorized, all new cartoons are in the 1980's and 2003 versions of the original.

  • i remeber this i was just a kid!

  • If you were born in the 1950's , this is the one you remember as a kid in the mid 1960's along with our tops and yoyos. We kids knew it was from Japan, we had tons of toys made in Japan then. A magic time to be a kid then.

  • Really? That is so cool you had this back then!

It's funny how even the 50's cartoons rocked compaired to today. It looks like the 80's were the last hoora for children's entertainment.

  • 10000hp, is it shaft hp? Jets and rockets provides lb of thrust not hp. But after overlooking small and incorrect details it is still the classic cartoon. Brings back quite a few memories and reminds me of all the time i spent watching tv as a youngster. Hang on wait a minute, thats what i'm doing right now!

  • FYI, when a rocket is moving a payload, hp can be calculated. For example, based on data from Boeing and NASA, a 747 cruising at Mach 0.9 at 40,000 ft using 55,145 lb of thrust will generate 87,325 hp.

  • The original Tetsuwan Atomu (Astro Boy) intro was instrumental. When NBC dubbed the show for their English audience, lyrics were added, sung by a children's chorus. The Japanese producers were so impressed, the following season a similar intro was created for Japanese audiences. This started the trend of animes featuring songs in their intros.

  • 0:50 and he kick's ku klux klan butt too!

  • For the first time ever my anime club I run at school was introduced to Astroboy, THIS Astroboy, this last tuesday...though only about 4 members were there. It was still good. Always loved this theme song and grew up watching tapes of this old black and white series.

  • This is the one! Grew up with it, loved it! Age 10 in a house with no fun, only anger and hate, hiding with the tv in the afternoons, in total excitement over Astro Boy. Even then I noticed it was an asian production and knew how unusual that was. What fun to see it again.

  • HAHAHA! Reminds me when I first saw Sailor Moon when I was kid in the early 90's. I was like "What the heck? This looks weird".

    Ah, good times.

  • LOL! I remember watching Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion as a kindergartner and realizing that there was something about those shows that made them different than Bugs Bunny, The Flintstones, and all the other cartoons on the tube, yet I wasn't quite able to put my finger on what that "something" was.

  • 1963 better than 2003

  • Classic

  • I just notices that the first robot Astro Boy attacks in this clip looks like a Mafia thug, right down the the hair, face and turtleneck sweater under his jacket. That went over my head as a 5 year old.

  • I can still recall this song almost 50 years after the first time I heard it. In beautiful 2/4 march time. One of the most influential cartoons in my history. I'm now an engineer and a teacher of math and science, no doubt this end was supported by my love of the future, which in no doubt was supported by my infatuation with the show and it's wonderful Optimism. Where has the optimism gone?

  • "Tobar is Robot spelled Backwards"

    Uh oh...

  • "PRINCE PLANET" {"Usei Shonen Popi" [Star Boy Popi]}, 'joe', was originally produced by TCJ in 1965 [52 episodes], also based on a Japanese comic by Hideoki Inoue. In 1966, American-International decided they wanted their own "Astro Boy"- and a piece of the lucrative "Japanimation" cartoon market thriving in the U.S.- buying the American rights to the series, and "translating" it into "PRINCE PLANET". It wasn't as successful...

  • I never cared much for the series but I always enjoyed the theme song and accompanying visuals, especially this version. It has stayed with me all through the years. The children sing with innocent, enthusiastic admiration for their hero. The background music is excellent, never competing with but, instead, lending perfect support to the children. Far superior to other versions.

  • Actually, it's 'rabot' spelled backwards. -_-

  • Oh really No say astro boy was made by the father of all from kimba to gigantor Tezuka the greatest of japan art

  • Tezuka did not create Gigantor.

  • I wonder if next be a astroboy Movie on the big screen soon.....In Usa

  • ya, i hear disney is going to make one and claim its their original idea!!!

  • I know Walt Disney himself once said to Tezuka that he'd like to do something like Astro Boy one day.

And I know Imagi is already coming out with an Astro Boy movie in October.

So I think you either mixed up what you read, or your source was mixed up.

  • astro boy would really beat the shit outta superman

  • hhahahahaaaahaaha!

  • @Fredchiodi seguro que lo mirabas Fede!

  • @empiresellscrack only until Superman unloads his heat vision on him. Then he'll be astro slag.

  • i cant find any anime from japan any earlier than astro boy, i know there wassomething from the 50's but hell i cant find it lol

  • If you are talking about TV anime, I'm sure Astro Boy was the first. Theatrical anime, well I'm sure there are some but I don't know much about that.

  • one of the best carton openings songs still over 45+ years later!

  • i like kimbas song too. anyone hear of prince planet????

  • Yes, 'keniichi', there were 104 episodes in English. In the original Japanese series, 191 episodes were produced until the end of 1966, but NBC Films decided not to "convert" any more of those for American audiences after 1965.

  • When I was a little kid in the 60s watching this, I never noticed the thick New York drawls of the kids singing it. Particularly on the words "Off" at :30 and "Foe" at :54.

  • Oh Astro you kick so much butt.

  • This isn't a "trailer", 'nozo'- this is the opening title that appeared on all 104 episodes of the series...

  • Theres 104 wonderful episdoes of AstroBoy?!

  • Yes there are, the two Astro Boy Ultra DVD Box Sets from Nozomi Entertainment contain all 104 episodes.
