It's dumb to like an accent just cause it makes you think of success. I like accents cause of the way they sound. As a guy, I love the accent of southerm American girls. It's soft, beautiful and music to my ears.That's why I'd like to marry a sothern girl. Don't like the french accent at all. Too gutoral. Australian and British accents are not bad but my second favorite is the Russian accent, I also love German.

See thats what we think about a lot of UK accents....We think that British accents sound so intelligent and refined! And UK and NZ sounds very similar. But I think those accents are just beautiful. I never knew we even had an accent at all. I thought our accent was that we have no accent and we talk flat but we dont. I realized this about the word Harry Potter which we pronounce as "Podder." Why do we do that?? I have no idea why but to pronounce the T's would make us sound snobby or something

You're right to ask the question you do. To my American ear, the way you speak English is wonderful to listen to. The American accent is far less pleasant to listen to. And if you in America, you'd find most Americans would agree with that assessment, I think.

American accent probably conveys power and prestige due to the cultural influence of America and Hollywood, and due to the fact that our tone of speech is largely monotone and comes off as measured and serious (obviously depending on the person... some drunk college girl shouting about losing her shoe over and over again doesn't convey seriousness exactly).

About the power and prestige, it may have been true about our country, but, we are about to fall :-( Makes me sad, but it's true. But wealth isn't something that most people have here. A lot of it is greed and materialism, though, and things bought by fake plastic money until huge debt is accumulated.... An image, illusion. We want what we see on TV and in the movies.
