Especially what the spartans wore. they were heavy infantry, which means heavy armor. the spartans wore lamanar armor. they didn't run around in leather speedos. Pick up a history book please. Don't get your historical facts from movies

Most of what you say is true; however, this movie was based as close as it could get to the real story. If you take out the hollywood effects, drama, and some of the misconceptions then you see the true spartans. Yeah they had help, but not only were they outnumbered, they also did not cover their whole body with thick armor (yes i know the movie armor is fake, but even real spartan armor was not very protective when you have 1000 arrows coming at you). Read on their culture.

Its a greek(but traced to other cultures too I think) military formation that makes a wall of shields. Pikes or spears are generally placed through the small gaps allowing for a charge, turning it just as offencive as deffensive.
