First type VAZ 2101 1970´ was based on Fiat 124,but they did many channges - OHC engine (but made for VAZ by Fiat!), clearance height of chassis +25mm for russian terrain, fluid clutch etc. VAZ 2103 was a modified version of former 2101, they gave more power to engine, made changes on a gearbox.. Polski Fiat 125P was based on italian Fiat 125. Fiat 125P had an engine of old italian Fiat 1300&1500,chassis and brakes from italian Fiat 125. Italian Fiat 125 was modified Fiat 124..

All VAZ cars of the soviet era, except Samara are FIAT 124...
2103 has a body style of 124 Special.
Someone mentioned FSO 125 P... It has a mechanics of FIAT 1300/1500, and a body style of FIAT 125.

Wrong! The VAZ is based solely on the FIAT 124
body.
While the twin headlights do give that impression it has no body panels from the FIAT 125.

well a part of it is true: the tech. base of Vaz2103 is fiat 124, but outer look and style is taken from Fiat 125. I think it is better explanation
