He inherited a great economy, took all the credit for its continuing growth and did absolutely nothing to prepare for a rainy day because he genuinely believed he could do away with boom and bust for good. B & B is an escapable symptom of capitalist economics - but you can minimise the negativity by properly preparing for it. Brown didn't, and the country's finances are in a mess because of it.

His failure was to anticipate the bust and make any preparation for it. Statistically (and that means numerically factual you dense prick), we were one of the worst positioned countries to deal with the recession, and this has been borne out in our failure to sort it. Cuts are the way forward.
