@HeartagramHJE Actually the score was 4-3. While you are LYAO about this ONE game lets look at the bigger picture. Flyers took the season series that year 4-2-1 and out scored the Devils 34 to 20. The Flyers finished #1 in the division and conference with a record of 46-26-8 for 100pts second in the NHL ONLY to a pretty good team in Edmonton who had 106pts. The Devils? LAST in the division, tied for LAST in the conf and tied for LAST in the league! Plus the Flyers kicked their ass! Still funny?
@Marsdevilsvolta LOL. What a pathetic and desperate response. What may have happened between eight and SIXTEEN years AFTER the fact is completely irrelevant to the conversation which was what was going on in 1987. If you want to compare their histories I will take the Flyers' 2 cups, 8 Conf. championships and 16 division championships over the Devils' 3 Cups, 4 Conf. Championships & 9 division championships most of which came at the cost of destroying the game any day of the week. Enjoy!
@DaveTV2 lol which team plated a style that "destroyed" the game is up for debate. some would say the way the flyers played, which led them to their two cups, was one that destroyed the game. :) al the guy said was you got murdered then you go off on a rant, i dont see why you think that i need to stay on the point but you dont have to! he was talking about one game, you started talking about the season, i started talking about since then :0 its simple really. enjoy!
@Marsdevilsvolta Lets see, what the Flyers did, good or bad, gave the league national media attention and front page stories on magazines such as Time. Whether people loved them or hated them they sold out otherwise half empty arenas and watched on TV. They created passion and excitement. Remember the old saying "There's no such thing as bad publicity". Now the Devils? What they did take an exciting game and made it boring. There was a MUCH greater negative effect on the league. Cont…
@Marsdevilsvolta The result of what the Devils did was lower TV ratings which caused networks like ESPN to bail. Goals in the league went down by a goal a game. As a result, attendance went down and so did revenue. It took a strike (in part) to rectify the damage the Devils had done by giving the league a blueprint of how to all but remove scoring from the game. It is clear who did more damage and who's cups came at a greater cost to the game and league. BTW, How are the devils doin' now?
@Marsdevilsvolta As for your defense of @HeartagramHJE, I only corrected his incorrect assessment of that one game and reminded him, while he was getting all slaphappy about ONE game what happened the rest of that particular season. That point is completely relevant. Yours? Talking about something that did not happen for eight to SIXTEEN years? Was not. That is simply laughable.
@DaveTV2 you are nuts dude. the fact that you cant see how you bringing up a whole season series to someone making a point about one game is the same as me in turn bringing up what happened after that season makes me not respect you at all. you, my friend, are the only thing here that is laughable at this point. you need to get over yourself, i can just tell from your style of writing that you think you are hot shit. guess what man, i real mind knows when to concede and move on.
@Marsdevilsvolta Again, same season & same players in response to an incorrect and arrogant statement about one game where the pathetic cellar dweller beat the team on top vs your response bringing up something that did not happen till SIXTEEN YEARS LATER when most of those players were long retired. Your response has no relevance.
Funny how you accuse me of thinking I am "hot shit" and then follow with this beautifully written sentence "i real mind knows when to concede and move on" Hu? LOL
@JPernam1983 I loved Hex and I am a leafs fan, gotta love that kinda goalie, he went at it with Potvin, and they were firends forever, respect, I dont like Philly now, Ron gave the pride..
I'm not a Flyers fan,but I got to give it up to Ron Hextall. He not only can be a great goaltender, but as people here mention already he can handle the puck, and is a total bad-ass and didn't take shit from anyone!
Hexy was one of the Games Innovators . Before him you never saw Goalies handling the puck . He was the first to wander out and shoot the puck out of his end . Plus he also scored 2 Goals .
HEXTALL my favorite goalie even though i was to little to rememeber any games, flyers have bob. and hes doing really good but i wish they had another goalie like HEXTALL
@leafyrivers Overrated hu? He is only 25th all time in wins a mere 5 behind a pretty good goalie named Mike Richter in 58 LESS games played. He is #1 on the Flyers all time wins list. Bernie Parent is #2. Hextall did that in less games than it took Bernie. He was an All Star, Vezina Trophy Winner, Conn Smythe Trophy winner on the LOOSING team. 1st goalie to score a goal and did it twice before anyone else did it once. Best stick handing goalie ever. No, he was not Brodeur but that ain't shabby!
@njdevilfanlj Cheap shots? Well that goes without being said when discussing Hextall. All part of his charm and what made him so entertaining to watch. It still does not dismiss his accomplishments. Now was he Martin Brodeur? Certainly not. He is the best all time, but Hextall was a hell of a goalie who was idolized by Brodeur by his own admission. He certainly was not "overrated" as leafyrivers said which was the point.
@TitaniumDRFT I am not so sure it is. Consider: The equipment was much smaller back then, defensive strategies were not NEARLY as advanced and thought out as they are today. Just watch a game from back then and notice how far the D backs into the zone. On the PK teams were not NEARLY as aggressive back then. Goalies are MUCH more protected from interference than they were back then. Players were smaller back then making it more difficult to physically defend a puck carrier.
@qqq3825 Lets see, Flyers 1986-87 reg season record: 46 26 8 for 100pts. #1 in both the division and conf. Devils? 29 45 6 for 64 pts. LAST in the division and tied for LAST in the conf. Playoffs? Flyers not only went to the finals that season but took the best team ever assembled to the brink of the 7th & deciding game. Hextall won the Vezina AND the Conn Smythe that year. You go ahead and "lol" about the scoreboard in that one particular game. I will LOL about the rest of the Devils season.
ahhhh, those were the days, this is when hockey was hockey, great to hear Gene as well. It's nice to walk down memory lane, funny how it keeps getting longer and longer
old school rocks when you use to be able to run into goalies and shit I was only 11 but yes i do remember!! Been a Flyers fan since i was born!! Now you cant come within a foot the crease without getting called for it
Heh... removed his comment. Probably because he googled up Hexy and saw his record. Hextall was a bit unreliable at times, but when he was on, he was ON.
"Hextall is probably the best goaltender I've ever played against in the NHL. Just when you think you'll bombard him, he comes up with the big saves."—Wayne Gretzky
@GTM57 The dude was a Stanley Cup Finals MVP even though his team lost. He was a great goalie but on top of that he was probably the biggest bad ass to ever play the posistion. GOAT? Probably not, but still great.
I hear where you are coming from and as big of Hextall fan as I am I would never say he was the "best goalie of all time" as a blanket statement. Obviously Brodeur is that. BUT, I also would not say Zack was "delusional" either. Hextall is #25 on the all tIme wins list with a better WP of a number of those above him. Cup or not, Hextall was CLEARLY one of the best ALL AROUND goalies of all time. Skating, passing, shooting, scoring, fighting, intimidating. leadership. Not as "far" as you think!
I hear what your saying and I agree to a point....but when someone says and I quote: "Hextall is easily THE BEST GOALIE OF ALL TIME" then I have to disagree and yes perhaps delusional was the wrong phrase to use but, had he said "ONE" of the best goalies of all time, then yes I would agree to that. BUT lets not forget Patrick Roy or Martin Brodeur like you stated for they are easily the best ever so far.
I think that is a fair statement. I suppose it was the way you worded your initial response that I reacted to more than what you were actually trying to say. Lots of people like to jump on the fact that Hextall never won a cup as a measure of how good he was and that is just not right. Especially when he did much more in the loss of the cup in '87 than Fuhr did in the win. There were LOTS of great players who never won a cup. Unfortunately it is a team game and that has a lot to do with it.
I was never a flyers fan and didn't care for their style of play, but I do have to say that I did admire Hextall's great theatrical style of play over the years. He did at times make the game interesting to watch because you never knew what the hell he would do or try next and he was truely underated and perhaps overlooked but certainly not the greatest goalie ever, but still ONE of the best.
Another very fair statement. I agree with everything you said with the exception about being a Flyers fan and their style of play but that is just personal taste and maybe the difference in where we both live. Your comments on Hextall are right on. That is why I love to watch him. You just never knew what he was going to do and he was so entertaining to watch on so many levels. There will never be another one like him.
By the way Dave....thanx for your honest and open comments. Its nice to be able to come on here and debate the difference of opinions with someone intellegently with no name calling or uneditable language. Just for the record I live in Canada where hockey is our national sport, no I'm not a Leafs fan, but I do like Ottawa and Calgary even though neither has the history yet as the Flyers do, and yes personal taste in teams does have alot to do with where you live.
No problem. I just try to call it like I see it. Insulting people for no reason or just because they may like another team is kind of pointless IMO. I would rather discuss the facts of things and take all factors into account. In the end you were not rude about it and we really did not disagree all that much anyway. Hextall was certainly my favorite player of all time but I have no problems giving credit to those who may have been better. It is ignorant not to. He certainly would.
So just because Muhammad Ali lost a couple of fights during his career that means he is not the greatest? Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas, does that mean he was any less of a fighter? Nope.
Couple things to remember on the Potvin Fight. A. That was at the tail end of Hextall's career. B. Potvin was much younger C. Hextall had just skated the length of the ice and CLEARLY took the front end of the fight. Not surprising he was winded by the end. D. All that & the fight was still a draw at best.
Thanks man. I appreciate that. I try to call it like I see it. If Hextall flat out got beat up I would have no problem saying so. Problem is that people let their feelings towards him cloud their judgement of what they are seeing in that fight. In the end, they both threw a ton of punches and each one only landed a couple. Hextall in the beginning & Potvin towards the end. People get all excited about the cut which could have just as easily come from his equipment as a punch. Draw IMO.
Atually I am sorry, shouldn't of said not good for hockey, I know he was...but the unsportsmanlike of this man was unreal..shooting pucks at players etc...it's a milder case of Sean Avery and the NHL is dealing with that. I don't disagree with you on his accomplishments but it's the man himself I don't have high regards for.
I think this is a totally fair statement. I can totally understand why someone would not like some of his unsportsmanlike actions and not hold him in high regard because of it. But it is wrong to say he "sucked" as you did and not remember how good he really was both at stopping the puck and handling it. I do think he brought more to the game than he detracted from it. He is a far cry from Avery though. He is just a thug who adds nothing.
Also, don't think Hextall would do very well in today's NHL....he would be suspended constantly. I think our kids could learn from his work ethic but you won't catch me showing my son his ridiculous behaviour. These guys are paid a lot of money and are role models...they need to act professionally. This is all I am saying about Hextall...good goalie yes....good for hockey..not so sure.
His ridiculous behaviour was both exciting and fun to watch. I grew up watching him and idolized him, and his play never changed mine. He stood his ground, didnt take any crap, and defended his teamates. They thought twice before messing with any Flyer. The game is also about fun, if people dont enjoy all of it, they shouldnt watch. And he proved his professionalism by being the Flyers all-time leader in games and wins and scoring 2 goals while being tuff. Revolutionized the position of goalie!
Well wins are fine...what about save percentage? although I am sure he is up there. He was a good goalie and I agree. How do I know..well I only can say it's from a few players..but Shanny lived with us when he played for London, we still see each other as he comes home and married a girl from here... and he, Tim Taylor..a couple others had made comments..that's all. He was a big man and was a good goalie...sure he measures up to Roy and others.
His regular season career SP was .895 and Playoff SP was .897. Both are very good considering he spent half his career in an era when league scoring was about a goal a game higher than in the md to late 90's. In the end though it is all about winning though isn't it?
As far as other players, both Martin Brodeur (best ever) & Rick Dipetro both name Hextall as an idol growing up and an inspiration.
I would never begin to compare him to Roy or Brodeur. They are in a class all their own.
Easy Dave, you'll give yourself an ulser...just Hextall was always a hot headed idiot...and your right, he showed he was a good goalie, but most players who knew him as a hot headed nutcase. Now if the Flyers actually sign Emery like they say they will.....he will make Hextall look like a saint, Emery is a real nut.
I am completely calm my friend. Just giving you the facts.
"Hot headed"? Sure I will agree with that. "Idiot"? That is a little over the top considering his career.
"Most players knew him as a hot headed nutcase"? First, how do you know? Were you a player? Second, even if they did please do not forget they as do players today also have much respect for him. I have more than enough interviews to support this with them saying so.
Emery? Problem with him as compared to Hextall is that he is not nearly as good at playing the position and stopping the puck as Hextall was. That is what one must keep in mind when discussing Hextall. It is easy to say he was a hothead. He was! But you also have to remember he was a damn good goalie. One of the best of his era and is currently #24 on the all time wins list just one behind Richter with FAR less games played. That "sucks" in your opinion hu? Right. That is great company 2B in!
Correction, Hextall is now #25. Khabibulin just passed him this year.
BTW, Felix Potvin is #34 on that All Time Wins list with 28 LESS wins in 27 MORE games played than Hextall. For the record, it took Khabibulin 70 MORE games to pass Hextall. Again, that "sucks" in your opinion? Again my friend, I am perfectly calm. Just giving you the facts since you seem to forget how good he was. Hothead or not!
Did you even watch that fight closely or did you just get all excited because Potvin took his clothes off as he held on for his life? If you watch it closely you will see that they both only landed 1 or 2 clean punches. Hextall in the beginning and Potvin in the end. The cut could have come from his equipment and does not mean that he won.
In the end Hextall won the game (most important thing) and certainly proved over the course of his career that he was a better goalie. "sucks"? yea, right!
First of all he was only in so many "fights". It is not like he was Dave Brown or anything. That said, He went after Craig Berube when he was on the Caps. He was a fighter! He fought with Rob Pearson who could hold his own. He went after Chellios who granted is not a "fighter" is a strong guy who can hold his own. Not like he was a wimp. Given that Felix Potvin held his own against Hextall, clearly he could fight. He got in the face of anyone and certainly was not particular big or small.
If you say so. I think that Hextall beating on Chevrier is one of the most entertaining and serious ass kickings you will ever see. To top it off, if you look closely you will see they get hit with an icy cold beverage from the stands!
Alain Chevrier is your Dad? That is awesome!!! I wonder though, does your dad think it is so hilarious? His head might still hurt after that pounding.
Although it is tough to see in the grainy YouTube video, the funniest thing about this fight is right before Hextall goes apeshit landing punches on your dad's head, someone hits them both with a cold beverage.
Your Dad was a bit undersized against Hextall but unfortunately for him he was wearing the goalie equipment.
I miss the old school 80's Patrick Division. In early devs history, Flyers definitely used to push around the devils physically. Things started to even out in 87-88. Doesn't really matter I guess, Devils have 3 cups since 1995 and Flyers are over 30 years from their last .
or the goalie who wasn't afraid to be physical and leave it all out on the ice, he stood up for his team and his fellow players and had passion for the game he played....he took a couple shots at people but also wasn't afraid to back those quick shots up with his fists---he proved that here when he beat the shit out of the devils goalie Alain Chevrier
you are right. i am sorry. what was i thinking. his stanley cup records more than make up for his cheap shots. remember all those stanley cups he won. what year was that -you know when he won the stanley cup.
If I may interject which I may since it is my video. Granted, wining the cup is the ultimate goal of every hockey player. We all know that. But that does not mean a career that ends without one is unsuccessful or the player is any less great. Need I remind you all the great players who retired without one? Likewise, there are many average players who have a Cup.
That said, cheap shots aside, Hextall proved without a doubt over the course of his career he was one of the best of his era!
What I will remind you of are a few stats that kind of prove this. 296 wins which puts him #24 on the all time wins list. That is just 5 wins behind Mike Richter at #23 in 58 LESS games played! Career .895 SP, 47 PO wins, Conn Smythe, Vezina, All Star, made NHL history TWICE and revolutionized the position with his puck handling abilities. Even Brodeur sites Hextall as one of his idols and inspiration for the way he plays the puck today. No Cup, but that is a pretty damn good resume!
The funny thing is that you seem to suffer from the same exact problem. Only difference being that your frustrations come out by posting ignorant and idiotic messages on YouTube! At least he did something with his life and made something of himself. You? LOL Your post has been removed
Wow. This brings back memories. I remember this game very well--a frustrating loss for Flyers fans (Devils still weren't very good then) with that memorable brawl marked by Hextall going berserk on Chevrier. Hockey to me will never seem as good as my memories of listening to games called by Gene Hart, Bobby Taylor and Ed Van Impe.
Fougeddaboudit16's comments have been deleted because he is an ignorant fool who has no clue what he is talking about. When faced with the truth he sends threatening messages! Real mature!
You do realize that the announcer and person whom I am assuming you are telling to "shut up" and say "has no idea what he is talking about" is an NHL hall of fame announcer and has been dead for 10 years? He can't hear you!
On top of that what the hell are you getting so upset about? This happened more than 22 YEARS AGO!
I thought about that but thought it would be better to leave them so everyone can see what an ass he really is. Deleting them would be doing him a favor.
He used to golf with my Dad a lot at the golf club in Wayne, NJ they were both members of. Hope he's doing well. He was very nice to me even though I'm a Rangers fan!
Chevy stuned Hextall with a right to his jaw. Hex kept throwing but was dazed by it and fell on top of Chevy. Kirk Muller busted up Toccett and Samuelson in this one. Devils owned on this night!
OMG, do you mean to tell me that you think that Chevrier won this fight? There is no way Hextall was even being close to being "dazed" by that punch. All that did was piss him off. If you watch, after Cherier throws that punch Hextall starts throwing and landing them faster and harder. Certainly not the control shown by someone who is "dazed". No, "Chevy" got his ass kicked royaly, soundly and decisively! No question about it.
OMG, Dude you are clearly insane. First of all you are now just making shit up. Hextall did not miss a day. He actually set an NHL record for minutes played by a goalie that year playing in 66 games. How do you do that missing 6 weeks?
Secondly, how did he break his jaw when he hit him in the side of the face? Do yourself a favor and pause the video just at about 11 or 12 seconds and you will see that he does not even hit him in the jaw.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
OMG-OMG-OMG! HEXTALL was carried off the ice by 2 trainers that saw he was in trouble. He was so dazed he actually fell face first into the ice. That's where all the blood came from. Hextall always fought the same way. duck and punch and chevy knew it and caught him with a really sweet shot. the little guy gets the KO victory!
Dude you are fucking crazy! Do you not seem him standing on his own and skating around after the fight? This can be seen at :38, 1:36, 4:47 and then you can see him skating towards the exit at 5:04. He is #27!
Face it bud, the video dies not lie. You just can't handle the reality so you are making your own. Hextall KICKED HIS ASS! 1 punch to about 100! LOL!
And just so everyone else knows what an idiot that ghytgb is. I looked up the facts and Ron Hextall did not even MISS a game to injury till 1989! This fight took place in the 86-87 season! So CLEARLY he is wrong and likes to make shit up when it does not support him. Hextall OWNED Chevrier as I just owned ghytgb. Maybe worse! LOL!!!!!
I'm pretty sure ghytgb is just trying to get a rise outta you, Hextall played 66 games in 87 so there was no way he missed 6 weeks. Hextall cleaned Chevrier clock as well many others, he was the toughest goalie I have ever seen. He may have had a screw loose as some say, but he arguably played with the most heart. And as you can tell in alot of video footage, he always had his teammates back. He's my favorite goalie and the most entertaining, the NHL needs more players with his heart and fire.
Hextall is the GOD<3

I will LOL about the rest of the Devils season.

spoken like a true delusional Flyer fan...how many cups has he won?? Best goalie of all time?...I think far from it my friend.
GTM57 2 years ago 2
@GTM57 The dude was a Stanley Cup Finals MVP even though his team lost. He was a great goalie but on top of that he was probably the biggest bad ass to ever play the posistion. GOAT? Probably not, but still great.
David87psc 2 years ago
I hear where you are coming from and as big of Hextall fan as I am I would never say he was the "best goalie of all time" as a blanket statement. Obviously Brodeur is that. BUT, I also would not say Zack was "delusional" either. Hextall is #25 on the all tIme wins list with a better WP of a number of those above him. Cup or not, Hextall was CLEARLY one of the best ALL AROUND goalies of all time. Skating, passing, shooting, scoring, fighting, intimidating. leadership. Not as "far" as you think!
DaveTV2 2 years ago
I hear what your saying and I agree to a point....but when someone says and I quote: "Hextall is easily THE BEST GOALIE OF ALL TIME" then I have to disagree and yes perhaps delusional was the wrong phrase to use but, had he said "ONE" of the best goalies of all time, then yes I would agree to that. BUT lets not forget Patrick Roy or Martin Brodeur like you stated for they are easily the best ever so far.
GTM57 2 years ago
I think that is a fair statement. I suppose it was the way you worded your initial response that I reacted to more than what you were actually trying to say. Lots of people like to jump on the fact that Hextall never won a cup as a measure of how good he was and that is just not right. Especially when he did much more in the loss of the cup in '87 than Fuhr did in the win. There were LOTS of great players who never won a cup. Unfortunately it is a team game and that has a lot to do with it.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
I was never a flyers fan and didn't care for their style of play, but I do have to say that I did admire Hextall's great theatrical style of play over the years. He did at times make the game interesting to watch because you never knew what the hell he would do or try next and he was truely underated and perhaps overlooked but certainly not the greatest goalie ever, but still ONE of the best.
GTM57 2 years ago
Another very fair statement. I agree with everything you said with the exception about being a Flyers fan and their style of play but that is just personal taste and maybe the difference in where we both live. Your comments on Hextall are right on. That is why I love to watch him. You just never knew what he was going to do and he was so entertaining to watch on so many levels. There will never be another one like him.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
By the way Dave....thanx for your honest and open comments. Its nice to be able to come on here and debate the difference of opinions with someone intellegently with no name calling or uneditable language. Just for the record I live in Canada where hockey is our national sport, no I'm not a Leafs fan, but I do like Ottawa and Calgary even though neither has the history yet as the Flyers do, and yes personal taste in teams does have alot to do with where you live.
GTM57 2 years ago
He certainly would.

mikeoxbig1414 2 years ago
So just because Muhammad Ali lost a couple of fights during his career that means he is not the greatest? Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas, does that mean he was any less of a fighter? Nope.
Couple things to remember on the Potvin Fight. A. That was at the tail end of Hextall's career. B. Potvin was much younger C. Hextall had just skated the length of the ice and CLEARLY took the front end of the fight. Not surprising he was winded by the end. D. All that & the fight was still a draw at best.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
Most intelligent comments I have ever read about that fight..
Boxingbear 2 years ago
Draw IMO.

DaveTV2 2 years ago
Atually I am sorry, shouldn't of said not good for hockey, I know he was...but the unsportsmanlike of this man was unreal..shooting pucks at players etc...it's a milder case of Sean Avery and the NHL is dealing with that. I don't disagree with you on his accomplishments but it's the man himself I don't have high regards for.
calhoon121 2 years ago
I think this is a totally fair statement. I can totally understand why someone would not like some of his unsportsmanlike actions and not hold him in high regard because of it. But it is wrong to say he "sucked" as you did and not remember how good he really was both at stopping the puck and handling it. I do think he brought more to the game than he detracted from it. He is a far cry from Avery though. He is just a thug who adds nothing.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
Also, don't think Hextall would do very well in today's NHL....he would be suspended constantly. I think our kids could learn from his work ethic but you won't catch me showing my son his ridiculous behaviour. These guys are paid a lot of money and are role models...they need to act professionally. This is all I am saying about Hextall...good goalie yes....good for hockey..not so sure.
calhoon121 2 years ago
His ridiculous behaviour was both exciting and fun to watch. I grew up watching him and idolized him, and his play never changed mine. He stood his ground, didnt take any crap, and defended his teamates. They thought twice before messing with any Flyer. The game is also about fun, if people dont enjoy all of it, they shouldnt watch. And he proved his professionalism by being the Flyers all-time leader in games and wins and scoring 2 goals while being tuff. Revolutionized the position of goalie!
98Camarokid 2 years ago
Well wins are fine...what about save percentage? although I am sure he is up there. He was a good goalie and I agree. How do I know..well I only can say it's from a few players..but Shanny lived with us when he played for London, we still see each other as he comes home and married a girl from here... and he, Tim Taylor..a couple others had made comments..that's all. He was a big man and was a good goalie...sure he measures up to Roy and others.
calhoon121 2 years ago
His regular season career SP was .895 and Playoff SP was .897. Both are very good considering he spent half his career in an era when league scoring was about a goal a game higher than in the md to late 90's. In the end though it is all about winning though isn't it?
As far as other players, both Martin Brodeur (best ever) & Rick Dipetro both name Hextall as an idol growing up and an inspiration.
I would never begin to compare him to Roy or Brodeur. They are in a class all their own.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
Easy Dave, you'll give yourself an ulser...just Hextall was always a hot headed idiot...and your right, he showed he was a good goalie, but most players who knew him as a hot headed nutcase. Now if the Flyers actually sign Emery like they say they will.....he will make Hextall look like a saint, Emery is a real nut.
calhoon121 2 years ago
I am completely calm my friend. Just giving you the facts.
"Hot headed"? Sure I will agree with that. "Idiot"? That is a little over the top considering his career.
"Most players knew him as a hot headed nutcase"? First, how do you know? Were you a player? Second, even if they did please do not forget they as do players today also have much respect for him. I have more than enough interviews to support this with them saying so.
DaveTV2 2 years ago
DaveTV2 2 years ago
Correction, Hextall is now #25. Khabibulin just passed him this year.
BTW, Felix Potvin is #34 on that All Time Wins list with 28 LESS wins in 27 MORE games played than Hextall. For the record, it took Khabibulin 70 MORE games to pass Hextall. Again, that "sucks" in your opinion? Again my friend, I am perfectly calm. Just giving you the facts since you seem to forget how good he was. Hothead or not!
DaveTV2 2 years ago
Potvin kicked Hextalls ass!! Hextall sucks.
calhoon121 2 years ago

Your Dad was a bit undersized against Hextall but unfortunately for him he was wearing the goalie equipment.

leafyrivers 2 years ago
ya I do remember that time where he was inducted into the flyers hall of fame and that other time where he is going into the nhl hall of fame
naes101010 2 years ago
If I may interject which I may since it is my video. Granted, wining the cup is the ultimate goal of every hockey player. We all know that. But that does not mean a career that ends without one is unsuccessful or the player is any less great. Need I remind you all the great players who retired without one? Likewise, there are many average players who have a Cup.
That said, cheap shots aside, Hextall proved without a doubt over the course of his career he was one of the best of his era!
DaveTV2 2 years ago
What I will remind you of are a few stats that kind of prove this. 296 wins which puts him #24 on the all time wins list. That is just 5 wins behind Mike Richter at #23 in 58 LESS games played! Career .895 SP, 47 PO wins, Conn Smythe, Vezina, All Star, made NHL history TWICE and revolutionized the position with his puck handling abilities. Even Brodeur sites Hextall as one of his idols and inspiration for the way he plays the puck today. No Cup, but that is a pretty damn good resume!

ghytgb 3 years ago
OMG, do you mean to tell me that you think that Chevrier won this fight? There is no way Hextall was even being close to being "dazed" by that punch. All that did was piss him off. If you watch, after Cherier throws that punch Hextall starts throwing and landing them faster and harder. Certainly not the control shown by someone who is "dazed". No, "Chevy" got his ass kicked royaly, soundly and decisively! No question about it.
DaveTV2 3 years ago
chevy broke hextalls jaw with one punch. hextall missed 6 weeks and chevy didn't get one scratch! chevy the victor! hands down!
ghytgb 3 years ago
OMG, Dude you are clearly insane. First of all you are now just making shit up. Hextall did not miss a day. He actually set an NHL record for minutes played by a goalie that year playing in 66 games. How do you do that missing 6 weeks?
Secondly, how did he break his jaw when he hit him in the side of the face? Do yourself a favor and pause the video just at about 11 or 12 seconds and you will see that he does not even hit him in the jaw.
What color is the sky in your world anyway?

OMG-OMG-OMG! HEXTALL was carried off the ice by 2 trainers that saw he was in trouble. He was so dazed he actually fell face first into the ice. That's where all the blood came from. Hextall always fought the same way. duck and punch and chevy knew it and caught him with a really sweet shot. the little guy gets the KO victory!
ghytgb 3 years ago
Dude you are fucking crazy! Do you not seem him standing on his own and skating around after the fight? This can be seen at :38, 1:36, 4:47 and then you can see him skating towards the exit at 5:04. He is #27!
Face it bud, the video dies not lie. You just can't handle the reality so you are making your own. Hextall KICKED HIS ASS! 1 punch to about 100! LOL!
DaveTV2 3 years ago
And just so everyone else knows what an idiot that ghytgb is. I looked up the facts and Ron Hextall did not even MISS a game to injury till 1989! This fight took place in the 86-87 season! So CLEARLY he is wrong and likes to make shit up when it does not support him. Hextall OWNED Chevrier as I just owned ghytgb. Maybe worse! LOL!!!!!
DaveTV2 3 years ago
@ghytgb How come my dad never mentioned that he broke the dudes jaw?!
MsNaliBear 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure ghytgb is just trying to get a rise outta you, Hextall played 66 games in 87 so there was no way he missed 6 weeks. Hextall cleaned Chevrier clock as well many others, he was the toughest goalie I have ever seen. He may have had a screw loose as some say, but he arguably played with the most heart. And as you can tell in alot of video footage, he always had his teammates back. He's my favorite goalie and the most entertaining, the NHL needs more players with his heart and fire.
