@Aztechyian They were just shy of being underground for most of they're/Al's career. Most people got into Ministry through freinds or stumbled onto them through the scene.

@zeickus You're right, but Ministry didn't sound ANYTHING like this in the begining. Al and Trent developed this sound together, what everone came to call industrial(which Al and Trent both hated the name) and Trent did all the production on M.M.'s first couple of albums, so it makes sense that they would sound a lot alike.
@djmm1397 shes an actress/singer and she was cindy lou in the grinch and jenny humphrey in gossip but she is also the lead singer in the band pretty reckless
Funny how clowns like this are CONSTANTLY ranting against fascism and never touch the most murderous dogma the world has seen-communism. Betcha if ole Al was watching his kids starve to death while his jew buddy jello was eating steak and cavier with $700 a bottle wine he would be goose stepping 4 real.
@thursrune Sounds like somebody's a little anti-semetic. I bet you wouldn't like watching your kids or relatives being marched off to a death camp but, of course you're perfect and the nazis never would've done anything to you or anyone you know (that's sarcasm if you didn't notice). I guarantee you that if the Nazis ruled the world you and most of the people you know would be put to death or enslaved by them but, hey at least they're not a bunch of commies right?(more sarcasm)
@thursrune People get this fucked up all the time. Communism, the basis behind it has good principles. It's when leaders like Joseph Stalin take the floor that the concept gets twisted and fucked.
On another note, this is more an anti-nationalism song anyway. If the world were all one place instead of the hundreds of pieces we've marked with our scents, maybe. just maybe the world would be a slightly better place.
I was at this show in Chicago and had the honor of being in a couple clips in the video. I'm 41 years old now and I've probably seen a thousand + shows in my life and this ranks in my top 5 of all time! Along with Janes Addiction in 1989, partying with Mudhoney in 1991 and seeing Love at the Park West amongst others, this show changed my life.
Jello Biafra and Ogre from Skinny Puppy were all part of the band for the Mind tour in 89/90. Probably the most amazing live show ever. Not sure if the live show is still out there but go to Amazon and check out "Ministry, live in case you didn't feel like showing up". That's the source of this clip.
@zacattack500 its hard to find drugs Al Jourgensen DIDNT do... but heroine was the one that brought about Ministry's craziest stuff. Other than that, Acid was an influencial drug
@rbbreeding Saw Jello perform with Revolting Cocks for the "Cocked and Loaded" tour (2005-6?). He did the vocals for most of the tracks on that record. So if you like Jello, you should check it out. "Fire Engine" video is on you tube. i dunno if he did that particular track but...
A bloody GREAT comment / observation. Heh heh heh.
So many people out there thought that Ministry was endorsing Nazism by using the Adolf Hitler sample, but all they needed to do was either:
1. Watch this video and see how much the band and Jello Biafra & Nivek Ogre were lambasting the concept of fascism.
2. Tune into Al Jourgensen's well known opinion / disdain for totalitarian / fascist / oligarchic / repressive "regimes", etc. to understand where he's coming from.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: Al Jourgensen Paul Barker William Rieflin Martin Atkins Chris Connelly Nivek Ogre Joe Kelly Mike Scaccia Terry Roberts William Tucker BEST MINISTRY LINE-UP EVER!!!
Oh and to comment on this video....Their show with Jello B on this song was off-the-hook @ The Hollywood Paladiam! Carried my girlfriend on my shouldiers to the pit then said " meet me in front of the fence protecting Al J and Jello from the crazy crowd.
We would bring in, what grew to be, 8-9 solid crates of records every week playing everything from CONTROLLED BLEEDING....REV COCKS...SEXBEAT....SHRIEKBACK....to rare Nina Hagen and FATIMA MANSIONS...We'd have performance artists doing palm-reading while Ben would be painting famous 80's faces on bedsheets....while doing 'Dominatrax' night with people handcuffed to the club pillars....IT WAS FUN!!
Concurrent to REDTAPE, there was Club Confetti's PHIRAHNA ROOM, Todd Zwigg's SOMA, Leo's SHARDES OF GLASS....HELTER SKELTER in Hollywood...etc etc etc etc....the industrial scene was HUGE! I'm proud of my club RED TAPE....when it existed....we had CRASH WORSHIP, PSYCHIC TV, BAD RADIO, FRANTIC FLINSTONES, TOOL, MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE, DEADBOLT, REV HORTON HEAT, MIGHTY LEMONDROPS, THE MELVINS, PEARL JAM....and many other bands play at our club.
@kingvrage Keep in mind that this came out 10 years before the Internet. Radio gave you more choices and MTV actually use to play good videos and have good shows. Oh yeah, and concerts were way better.
Chicago REPRESENT!!!! Ministry was one of the greatest in Industrial music..... It was the one American Band that pulled through during the German Invasion (Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Kraftwerk).... Also tied in with 9 inch nails (another American great, as emotional as he is).
Actually, the "German Invasion" bands you mention (other than Kraftwerk), surprisingly, ARE NOT German.
Nitzer Ebb hails from Essex, England.
Front 242 hails from Bruxelles (Brussels), Belgium.
I can think of other bands that were not European based (Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Revolting Cocks, Kill Switch ... Klick, Spahn Ranch, Die Warzau, Pigface, Thrill Kill Kult, Cat Rapes Dog, Hate Dept., Skinchamber, Sister Machine Gun, Swans, etc.) that were North American based.
@trollcrusher242 With all do respect, your point is only semi accurate as many of the individuals in the bands had Germanic connections such as Bill Leeb from Front Line Assembly was born in Vienna, Austria ( a Germanic country). Also Wax Trax in Chicago (at the time) was the hub for Industrial in America and was strongly influanced by local Germaic and Eastern European decendants. I know I was there. LoL
I'll go one better than your "I know, I was there. LOL" comment.
I know, because I WORKED for Wax Trax! Records at 2449 N. Lincoln Avenue, in the Lincoln Park / DePaul neighborhood.
:D
No shit.
And Wax Trax! Records, was the ground zero point for "Industrial Dance" music (rather than "Industrial" - i.e. Einstürzende Neubauten / Throbbing Gristle / Crash Worship / etc.), under the watch and vision of both Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher (both R.I.P.).
@trollcrusher242 There was an explosion of Industrial clubs throughout the west... all of the way back to Chicago in the late 80's / early 90's with the thanks to ultraproduction of WAXTRAX records and multi-gothic/indistrial/punk label that were pumping out 12"s on a weekly bases. I, along with a guy named Eric Fermin, Tim Hall, Eddie Veddar, Beth Liebling, Sue (which ended up later working for WAXTRAX because she was MYLIFE's girlfriend)...did a club in San Diego called RED TAPE.
@housedout I believe her name was Sue.....I might need to be corrected. Either way, she helped Beth take money at our door while RT existed before she moved on to Chi with the lead singer of MyLife.
Thanks for the info on your involvement with the Industrial music scene out on the West Coast. :D
With regard to "My Life" ... I take it that you are referring to "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult" (a.k.a. "TKK")? Lead singer for TKK would be none other than Frankie "Groovie Man" Nardiello.
@trollcrusher242 that just reminded me of looking through the record bin for RevCo or Ministry at Wax Trax and seeing a publisher's clearing house mailer that read, "Alain Jourgensen, you may have just won $10,000,000!" That place was beautiful. The Damen Ave. store was like a fucken ghost.
Hey ... thanks for the great tidbit on remembering the thing about the Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes flyer that mentioned Alain Jourgensen possibly winning the $10 million. Good humour indeed.
I would almost guess that it was one of the *cheeky* employees who were in Al's circle of friends / confidants / hangers-on who put that flyer on the flexible white plastic bin card. :P
When I worked there, they'd put on really, really old videos of Al during his "With Sympathy"
days (live gig footage) and laugh their asses off and just hope and pray that he didn't waltz through the store's front door to *gasp* catch everyone in the act of watching his previous Eurotrash incarnation on the tiny televisions mounted here and there in obscure places around the store.
Oh man. THAT would have been something to see indeed. The front windows would have blown out on the store from the outburst that would have ensuded. Or, from the bodies that would have been lobbed through
the plate glass window and onto the sidewalk / street there on North Lincoln Ave.
I remember in the back alley courtyard behind the store (unseen from the alley), that someone spraypainted "AL's NOT DEAD YET" and then another cheeky bastard came along and modified it to read "AL's NOT DEAF YET". Kind of an inside joke amongst the Wax Trax! crowd.
Great store. Great memories. And above all else, GREAT FUCKIN' MUSIC.
Chicago was "Ground Zero" for Industrial Dance music thanks to Wax Trax!
the denial of the holocaust is a cime in europe. however, we deny it. our address is: ANIMAX BT Forrás u. 2/C, 6000 Kecskemét, Hungary. we actually think that the phrase holocaust should refer to the killing of innocent european residents and the destruction of all of their personal and material holdings, their persecution by their future governments, and the ridiculous phenomena of jew-loving u.s. and int'l approach (eg those against jews are terrorists)
@evermetal2 Industrial Metal. Al Jourgensen used to pkay Synth Pop, but then he started listen to Hardcore, and those influences leaded to the creation of Industrial Metal
@MarioThrasherTroops I don't mind what they play, it is their choice. Maybe what they do, they do it well but in my book, there is no such thing like industrial Metal or Grunge Metal.Sorry but that's just my opinion.
@MarioThrasherTroops Actually Al was playing what would become Industrial music originally, signed a record deal, and they forced him to produce a pop synth album under the language of the contract. That was his one, and only, pop album.
This was one of the best concerts I ever went to! We had fun with the band afterwards too! Good times, good times.....I wish I could turn back time.......
its from their 'in case you didn't feel like showing up (live)' home video, some of the tracks were used for the cd. jello was there reading' die for oil, suckers', which, along with a few tracks, was not included on the tape/cd.

I, along with a guy named Eric Fermin, Tim Hall, Eddie Veddar, Beth Liebling, Sue (which ended up later working for WAXTRAX because she was MYLIFE's girlfriend)...did a club in San Diego called RED TAPE.
housedout 10 months ago
@housedout I believe her name was Sue.....I might need to be corrected. Either way, she helped Beth take money at our door while RT existed before she moved on to Chi with the lead singer of MyLife.

@housedout
Take care,

@trollcrusher242 that just reminded me of looking through the record bin for RevCo or Ministry at Wax Trax and seeing a publisher's clearing house mailer that read, "Alain Jourgensen, you may have just won $10,000,000!" That place was beautiful. The Damen Ave. store was like a fucken ghost.
ohgimemo 8 months ago
@ohgimemo
Hey ... thanks for the great tidbit on remembering the thing about the Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes flyer that mentioned Alain Jourgensen possibly winning the $10 million.

Or, from the bodies that would have been lobbed through
trollcrusher242 8 months ago
the plate glass window and onto the sidewalk / street there on North Lincoln Ave.
Chicago was "Ground Zero" for Industrial Dance music thanks to Wax Trax!

actually rev cocks originate in belgium ;)
mazonemayu 10 months ago
@mazonemayu
Yes ... two members of the founding trio which comprised the initial incarnation of the Revolting Cocks were Belgian citizens:
Luc Van Acker and Richard Jonckheere (a.k.a. "Richard 23" or "R23").
However, lead member Al Jourgensen is a United States citizen by roundabout way of Cuba (his birthplace).

LOL, as if I didn't know that, I know luk personally (I'm from belgium) . but still 2 out of 3 aren't americans so I figured ... ;)

the denial of the holocaust is a cime in europe. however, we deny it. our address is: ANIMAX BT Forrás u.

MarioThrasherTroops 11 months ago
@MarioThrasherTroops I don't mind what they play, it is their choice. Maybe what they do, they do it well but in my book, there is no such thing like industrial Metal or Grunge Metal.Sorry but that's just my opinion.
evermetal2 11 months ago
@evermetal2 You asked. I just answered ;)
MarioThrasherTroops 11 months ago
@MarioThrasherTroops Alright then. That settles it.
evermetal2 11 months ago
@MarioThrasherTroops Actually Al was playing what would become Industrial music originally, signed a record deal, and they forced him to produce a pop synth album under the language of the contract. That was his one, and only, pop album.
Afterwords, he went right back to his roots.
