At Screwfix, the cordless Dewalt drill with the Ni-Cd Batteries is £99 and the one with the lithium battery is £149. Plus you get two batteries with the first one. So, isn't the first one better value for money?
I bought a 18v Dewalt drill on ebay that was advertised as not working. It came with 2 Li-ion batteries, charger and case for £100. When it arrived there does not seem to be a problem with the drill, so well worth it just for the batteries!
I thought the real benefit of lithium is higher current, so it can drive different kinds of tools that nimh and nicd could never, sush as high torque digital pulsed motors, and the newer tools designed for lithium. I Imagine using them on the old tools wont make a bit of difference.
Hey great Video! so the old and used batterie made 30 an 1/2 holes and the absolutly new one with new tecnology made 33 an 1/2 !? hm ... so accually the same? sorry for my bad english.. greatings from germany and thanks for the vid, very nice!
Yes, the batteries were very similar. The only advantage with the Li-on is that you can charge it more times before it stops working and also you cannot damage it by part charging it.
Great demonstration! One humble suggestion, though, for the future:
Apples to apples, mate. If you're starting out with a brand-spanking new LiOn, the you should do the same with the NiCad or NiMH.
You only charge the "old" battery for an hour, presumably because it held charge from previous use. Uh-uh. Unbox all batteries to be tested simultaneously, and test each according th their performance after the FIRST full charge.
i don't buy battery-tools anymore. the replacement of the batterys cost too most. i use good old 120 volts tools. a good one will provide 20-25 years of work
good video showcasing the lithium batteries. But the "memory effect" is not something that can happen to drill batteries (have a look at the wiki page) Worse by discharging nickle based batteries all the way down you risk damaging them if the cells aren't in balance (this tends to happen as the battery gets older and if its used intermittently without charging between uses)
Bought a dewalt 18v drill/driver as a third cordless to see what the hype was all about and it burnt out within 4 weeks so threw it off a scaffold!
Never again! All my stuff is makita and Bosch As they have the best motors and also look the best

As long as it is the exact same drill I'd get the cheapest one.
I am sure Li-ion batteries will become cheaper eventually

Don't know!
The drill in the demo was bought with the Li-ion battery.
The Li-ion is 2AH but you can get Ni-Cad's that are 3AH
ultimatehandyman 4 months ago
Try again after the Li-Ion battery has been charged from empty to full at least 5 times. you might see an improvement.

Supposedly for Li-Ion batteries it's better to not fully cycle them as you were told for NiCd and NiMH.
But a problem with Li-Ion is that they get weaker just with time (like half capacity after two years), no matter how much you use them.

Lithium ion batteries need to be primed before they reach full capacity.
thingsdemystified 1 year ago
@thingsdemystified
You should tell Dewalt that, then they can include it in their next set of instructions ;-)
ultimatehandyman 1 year ago
@thingsdemystified
Really where you learn this from???
Cause as you cycle cells SEI continues to grow and reduces capacity. You don't "prime" any cells that are commercial available.

Ty,
Can u tell me whay u like Bosch tools?
I like dewalt,but i wood like to know wich 1 to bay - dewalt or bosch tools?
manofcraft 1 year ago
@manofcraft
Both are good makes. I prefer Bosch as they are very reliable and I have had a Bosch drill for over 10 years.
Just get the best tools you can for the money. Bosch, Dewalt or Makita all seem to be very good at a similar price.
ultimatehandyman 1 year ago
@ultimatehandyman Now its just a amtter of time waiting for them to go on sale haha, def not cheap but they are good reliable brands

I only bought the Dewalt as it was on special offer and was about half the usual price!

you sure talk a lot about dewalt...I bet they are paying you??? Did you sell out to dewalt?
Chupria 1 year ago
@Chupria
Nobody pays me, I am not up for sale!
I actually prefer Bosch tools, but I own lots of Dewalt 18v tools as one battery fits all other tools of the same voltage.
ultimatehandyman 1 year ago
what model of drill did you get?
man9170 1 year ago
@man9170
It was the Dewalt XRP DC988L1.
I have an older Dewalt XRP drill, which is being used in the video.
