Instead of telling us about your own experiences, give us advice or information on what is really like living in London considering the great amount of negatives about the place regarding the presence of Muslims.
I was just wondering, how did you go about getting a job in London coming fresh out of another country? I'm actually thinking about moving there sometime in the next few years.
I was in London for grad school until about 3 weeks ago and it was the best ever. I loved that it was multicultural, I was there for the royal wedding and everything! I couldn't get with the tea or beans for breakfast. Other than that, great city and very polite people!
@America2France Just to add, when I got to London in September, it probably rained everyday until February! When Spring rolls around, it is such a beautiful and AMAZING city!! The rain and gray is worth the Springtime!
not all of us drink tea, why are you playing a stereotype? as you're living there you should know the reality that stereotypes of us are outdated and untrue. i don't drink tea, i drink beer and eat kebabs. i guess you also think we still live in castles and other dumb stereotypes put on us by the bullshit american media?
I know this an old video but I had to comment! I'm from California and I always thought it was just ME...but every time I go to England, I eat. Constantly! haha! Funny to hear I'm not alone in this :) Enjoying your take on living there, something I will do but just visit for now.
i really wanna move to london when i turn 17 (im greek) but the thing is could you go to the doctor and how would you report your files and everything....?and how long did you have to stay to a hotel till you lease a home...it must be really tough!
p.s. my dad has grown up to AU and i have the accent and i have relatives there and my granny is aussie!
i really wanna move to london when i turn 17 (im greek) but the thing is could you go to the doctor and how would you report your files and everything....?
I went to London for a little over a week last summer and, even though I was psyched for it (I stayed up all night on the plane for excitement), the only thing I saw on my first day were the negatives. That was really hard, but oh my GOD if I didn't learn to love it! I can't wait to study abroad there in university. Granted, the food was pretty bad (I had just come from France, after all), I just can't wait to go back. I'm hooked! :)
If you go to china town there are 100s of shops dedicated to food from china and quite a few that do japanese aswell. Also around there there are alot of places to eat out quite cheaply.
Wow, these vids are kind of a downer, regarding living in London, but it's stuff I've heard a million times before. I've sort of made the decision to move from Toronto to Bristol, because of the negativity surrounding London, but I'm still wondering if I shouldn't just say 'screw it' and give London a try.
Bristol is damn boring you don't want to go there, London is the life of modern Europe. I dont know what this girl's saying regarding the food, London has one of the most developed Chinatowns in the world. And has the largest Indian community outside of India. If that's not good enough for you Paris is only a couple hours by train.
I completely agree that you should still give London a try. It may or may not be for you. I'm still here now, nearly 2 years after making this video! Perhaps I should make a new one with my further insights on London. There are many things I enjoy about london, though there are still things I dislike.
However I quite disagree with basch2020 - the china town in London is quite puny and under developed.. and really quite laughable. Of course if he is comparing it to bristol or even other cities in europe, its "developed". But compared with Sydney, it is seriously lacking in quality of authentic oriental food.
Most of the restaurants are geared for the clueless "white folk" who have absolutely no idea what real chinese or japanese or korean food is supposed to taste like. Basically, it's "tourist food". There are some decent chinese or japanese restaurants in london - none of which are in china town.
I've been living in London since August. Bristol was too small for me. I gave it 3 months and then got out. It's a beautiful city, but too sleepy. I love London!!!
You had reminded me the time when I was in Vegas in May last year. I had the same intense emotions. BTW, I am a true bred Singapore Chinese, born in Singapore and receive my education in Sydney. I entirely love Sydney. But trust me on the transport system in Vegas, it is worse. Please don't talk about food.I am starved here.
Concerning, houses you'll find queen Victoria has left her mark, some say that the new houses being built can't match Victorian houses. When I went to Sweden, the house's were few and far between. As For the transport system, if I'm going to the city the tube is a must, although I have cycled into the city, I don't feel safe. When I drive into the city I am in peril of the parking ticket or clamp so I don't like to chance it.
Sounds like your enjoying the experience of living in London as a whole, i can relate to moving to a new country and and that period of adjustment thing, bitter sweet. Crazy only takes meeting one person to create a kind of balance:P
It's always intrigued me why London is so popular to be honest. I can understand it if you want to live a fast paced life, visit for 2 weeks etc but to me ( and i'm english) its one heaving polluted living treadmill!
Have you travelled much in England apart from London? If I was to recommend anyone to come stay it would be to smaller cities like Oxford,Cambridge,Bath,Worcester or to lovely scenic areas like the lakes, cheddar, cornwall, stratford upon avon etc
Very true the UK has some of the best senerey on the planet and some of the most idlyc towns/cities and villages it is worth exploring especially if you live in London it's goood to get out of London now and again to apprciate London more.
Interesting. My wife and I moved to Sydney 2 years ago from the US. Good on ya for the travelling, and good luck. Thanks for the dance moves on your other vlog thingie. Your accent is interesting... not pure ozzie is it? Sounds kinda mixed with Singaporean or something. Anyways, all the luck.
Oh shit... just heard your "can't live without a car" in Sydney comment. False! I've only been using my push-bike for the last 2 years. It's not the best city for it (Melbourne kicks its ass with bikes by far), but not horrible. p.s. you want good food in England: go eat some Indian.
I was more comparing the public transport systems in Sydney and London. Of course London wins hands down.
As for food. I talk about that in my next video. Yes there is good food here too - those were just my initial impressions, and I did eventually discover indian & pakistani food.
Another great VLOG. You can't live in London without being influenced by tea, it's a great social event. When I visit my friends and relatives the first thing you're offered is tea it's like an aid to socialising and its a cheap form of hospitality, no-one says would you like a glass of champagne or wine in usual circumstances, and if you accept tea you don't feel you're putting the person out too much. T.B.C.
I think I can safely echo the sentiments of most of your viewers when I say that you do *not* ramble on too long - personally I enjoy it when someone takes the time to provide detail and colour (note the proper English spelling there, in your honour - oh, another one, look!) in order to give the viewers a very vivid audio picture. Your vlogs are the gold standard, imho. :)
Haha.. aw thanks!! You're so sweet. Thats the nice way of describing someone who is long winded lol. ;) And thanks for spelling things properly in my honour. :P
And no problems on the rain check.. you're welcome to a cuppa anytime. Lol.
Sounds like you've adjusted very well to London-town... I'll visit London eventually. As a tourist, I'm sure there's plenty to gawk at and admire - LOL!! My worry is that I won't want to return to the States...
Aww thanks. Though let me tell you its not all exciting and fun. Its damn hard work sometimes.. and can be rather tedious and stressful - but I'll get to that in my next video. :)
Hm that could take me a while to answer.. but in short, I wanted to experience living/working in another country for a bit and see more of the world while I was still young and able to do such things. London was perfect as I was born here, and I wanted to travel europe.
