This guy is my professor in Ateneo. Very quirky and intelligent guy who brings a lot of common sense to history and the superficial way people just accept it as being JUST a narrative, perhaps even propaganda. History classes with Dr. Ocampo has its biggest perk in learning to see history as both a science and an art, and something very human and relate-able to.
I owe my a love of history from wonderful professors at the Ateneo. Mr. Jo-ed Tirol, Mr. David Lozada, and Dr. Ambeth Ocampo. Legends.
I think filipino history is worthwhile to learn, from rizal to ramos Filipinos DO add to world history.@haters,your not helping anyone, and I can name many people, including Filipinos that have done more than you have done.
Dont bother learning Filipino history. It ain't worth it. I would rather learn the history of other countries. And besides, Fils didn't even make any significant contribution to world history just like what Chinese, Greeks and Persians did
@kentaro645 who the fuk are you...i will tell you the truth who is the inventor of famnous drug penicillin..drugs that help most people all over the world and your chinkese community who invent it of course filipino..dumbass..
well, i don't think you have done any significant contribution to the world either.. if you did, you wouldn't be on youtube trolling......... hater :)

@09092214584 yeah you aRE RIGHT THERE ...MANY ARE HATERS AND WANT FILIPINO TO STAY IN POVERTY COZ SIMPLE AS THAT THEY DONT WANT THE FILIPINO TO EMERGE THEIR ABILITIES AND THEIR COUNTRY..ONE FILIPINO INVENTOR invents the known drugs to mankind helping all people in the world ..penicillin..invented by pure filipino born raise in philippines..but never get credit..
For your information Malourin; Dr.Ambeth Ocampo used to work with National Museum, National Archives, and National Library since 1980's. It was also attested to the fact that he was a former President of the National Historical Institute since 2005. He only means in his lecture that our National Museum and National Archives don't have the sufficient historical facts and manuscripts in order to foretell the whole Philippine History (as other historians tried to write with some conjectures).
Thanks for contextualizing it, tyronejohn20. As a student of Dr. Ocampo this past summer term in the Ateneo, I would also like to share how problematic our National Library and Museum are. Sure, there are impressive collections in the NM (mostly those unearthed from the San Diego), but it's sad that the Art Gallery is highly deteriorating these past days. And to tell you frankly, the National Library is lagging a lot in serviceability compared to those of our Universities.
As an additional note, it's quite sad that this administration provides little regard to education and fostering of historical consciousness. Yet these were already the problems plaguing us since the Centennial Celebration of 1998. It seems nothing much has changed, with it our perception of history and (unfortunately) our affinity with our heroes. To Malourin, these are the problems which, despite the NM's holdings, have caused us to stagnate. We have few laborers in the Filipiniana vineyard.
Hellor, professor Ambet, did you know we have a National Museum in the Philippines? You will know our history there including the artifacts before the Spaniards came to our country. We have a culture before the Spaniards colonized PI. Whatever we are right now is a mixture of our ancient history and whatever we got from the Spaniards, Americans and the Japanese.
@Malourin...Read before you comment or open thou mouth. Ignorance and naivete is bliss. I am particularly amused how convenient it is for you to just take this "culture" issue as "mixture of ancient history" , by imposing unto us to look at the National Museum. What the National Museum is is how fragmented early historians and artists understand the bits and pieces of history, the contexts of how and why have these been taken myopically thru the lenses of the Western eyes.
I believe one should get through his vein the audacity to question and become sponsor critiques to quest our dying significance to world history and evolution of Philippine society, whence it is not a vainglorious thing to claim you know your history.

About Dr. Ocampo: why don't you buy his book from anvil and read them? btw, don't forget to read his credentials.
and about culture and history, you may wanna try to read Nick Joaquin's "Culture and History".
