I wonder that's H-shift or sequential? If that's sequential gearbox, how can you finished rev-matching on time before selector fork engage to next lower gear? I want to know about this part. Thank
Exactly. The "dead pedal" is the gap between the clutch and brake pedals. We left-foot brakers who drive 3-pedal cars need that constant reference point for our left feet. There's nothing worse than slamming down on the clutch pedal at 130 mph when you intended to slam down on the brake pedal. Ask me how I know.
@ajfangio I know but this guy has a clutch pedal as well, he is racing with a standard H gearbox. I heart somewhere that they have what they call "straight cut gears" so that they don't slip when you match the revs and engage the gear.
in australia with our v8 supercars they nearly always shift without clutch on upshift (flatshifting). this is normally only possible with a strong reliable gearbox and transmission. v8 supercars run a hollinger gearbox. for great pedal work check out v8 supercars also note great heel and toe on down shifts. one v8 driver left foot brakes so he downshifts without clutch (driving it like a go kart)
do you mind to tell us how it works? I get very curious.. I didn´t know that was possible to downshift without using the clutch pedal.. Have heard many times about upshifting, but never the oposite.. veri nice, really!
Do a search for clutchless shifting. It's easy once you learn it, and know the feel of the individual car/truck. BTW it's the opposite of power shifting (beating the tranny), they key is smoothness. Done it for so many years that it's second nature - I'll be going down the road, not paying attention, and do a smooth clutchless shift without realizing it. Then you'll have a passenger say "how did you do that?!?!"
Nice foot work.

Do you need a special gearbox to downshift without using the clutch?
LeontariF1 1 year ago
@LeontariF1, yes the gearbox is a sequential gearbox. With that gearbox you only have the gas and brake pedals to think about. It's pretty slick.

Looks very lazy compared to rally drivers footwork.

you must really be at a medium pace/in a slower car to only need 4th and 5th

Why do you heel toe one downshift
bawked 4 years ago
IIRC, I did it because it was I was in heavy traffic on approach to the "Toe Turn" at WGI, and there was no rush and no need to left foot brake.
