I have read Ethan Smith, Spalding, Priestly and some of Swedenborg. Their works are far too close in content to Joseph Smiths first print, the one that listed him as "author & proprietor" to be a coincidence. It's funny the Canucks didn't want to buy it. That didn't stop Joseph. He changed it to the word of God and the money started to roll in.

I wonder what the source of his Canukia rev really was: He had access to Freemason Libraries and was reading & hearing plenty. he heard wrong there and with Thurlow Weed. JS read what Spain and their explorers were finding&thinking. I have a couple of books asking if Noah landed in USA, was Garden of Edan in USA. Catholic Spain claimed lands not unlike JS self consecration. Spain had similar strange beliefs. like middle ages art with Mary & Jesus, etc, and a ufo in the background. hmmm

Yes, a strange new world, undiscovered lands that could have Biblical names attached. What a novel, convenient and self promoting idea! You're right about Spain. Ponce de Leon and Christopher Columbus spent alot of time looking for the garden and the fountain of youth. The Spaniards needed to find gold or the Garden to rule the world.
