I get everything you are saying adn agree, but i bought a pair of CDJ2000's and a DJM800 mixer all cased and a set of Eon 500 speakers with stands.I'm afraid the budget ends there. However i am practicing and enjoying.Keep up the fantastic videos. You are a brillaint help.Cheers
@SHREK0728 Get an iPod or a netbook as a backup. Even if it's a cheap mp3 player that holds nothing but your set list for that night, that way if you get a computer error you can plug in the other unit right away and keep the music going. Also since you're using a computer I suggest getting a big external hard drive to backup your data at least once a month, otherwise if your hard drive crashes then there goes all of your music.
yeah ur bloody right der man ,my gemini cdm3600 is not doing its job properly!! 2 many faults with it and its only 8 months old!! i paid 450euro for it in ireland and i have no receit 4 it!! looking for pioneer gear instead cause its far more reliable only expensive!
I use an american Audio CK -1000 , and a Peavey IPR-1600 amp (7 pounds!) and i bring extra cd players incase. I love my CK-1000 and wouldnt trade it for anything.
I discovered this already (fortunately at home) with my all-in-one mixer
If one channel stops working, I make a scratch and I play A (long) track on my iPod (Ipod in other input into Amp or PA Mixer). Then restart the mixer and hope nobody thinks "Hm.. something went wrong"
As a Pro I bring my 2 CD400's, my mixer and my laptop. I chose the CDJ400 specifically because they can be hooked into a laptop, as well as function as regular cd players. If one of the players dies (by a drunken girl spilling beer on it) I can use my laptop to mix (with no sound loss) or my IPhone and proper jack. If the mixer kicks the bucket, I have an M-Audio unit that can be used in pinch (with RCA to 1/4 inch jack)
What would you do with regards to an amplifier? It's inconvenient and pricey to buy a second amplifier as a backup but if that stops working, you have nothing. It doesn't matter how many mixers you have as backups.
if you want a mixer and cd players that are reliable, don't buy american audio, buy pioneer. and if you look after them ull never have a problem. and all my power boards have a surge protection just in case
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol at martyn fatmanmedia you wouldn't know one end of a function or a public disco from another, stop living in fantasy land. You're a failed radio chairman get a grip.
i bought the CK1000 and i do use it as a backup to my main system. I'm glad as i was doing a function with my normal gear and there was a huge power spike from the genny and it fried the fuses in both of my CDJ1000 MkIII units and i was left with no sound, so while i filled on the mic my mate ran to the van got the ck1000 and plugged it in and away i went total time to fill just under 2 mins, not bad. Now when i use gennys i've invested in a UPS to iron out the power before it gets to the kit.
I completely agree and applaud you on your pre-planning. I always have my computer and a dual CD Station. I keep a standby Behringer mixer on hand in the event that my main mixer goes down. I will always have backup. I can also tell that you're a talented DJ just by your comments. Cheers!
I bought one of these and it paid for itself in 6 hours time once for a school party 2 and a half hours and once 4 hours as a P.A with my matrix 1000 speakers I've had no problems being that it worked so well for me I also did two parties for free for some neighbors
torq exponet?? if you are in a party and the pc stops working! then you got a problem! cd players are more stables if you want to use a dj midi interface you must have a cd player as replacement while you restart the pc.
u are the man!!! one big question!!! i want to buy a kit like this. thinking in the gemini cdm 3600,the ck 1000 is way better? i want the buy the best i can at a low price. lets say 400 €. any suggestion?!! you rulllllll ellaskins!
its a good kit but i've read its not all that reliable so for a mobile dj i doubt it ould do.
the difference between this and the xponent is that you need a laptop to get the xponent working and you use the music on your computer on torq. this is a twin cd/mp3 disk player with a mixer, the xponent is a controller and soundcard.
I gotta agree with you 100%. It really seems like anyone can be a DJ these days with just 1 piece of equipment! I would use that gear as backup because it doesn't take too much space for something that you might not even need. Technology has made things more and more convenient and efficient, but with that comes the lost of freedom to make things your own.
i thinck if you took that the person whos wedding/christining etc would just look at it a thinck that its just a toy from argos or sumthin it doesant look very professional when in fact it is. i would take some other gear and just leave it onm the table with me to appear professional/good
This video totally makes sense and is a good idea. The situation I've run into before was a little more complicated. The bar I work at from time to time called me once in a panic because one of their other DJs had actually killed their amp.I wasn't sure about the condition of their speakers but the amp was gone.Thankfully in that instance a replacement could be found.
Jon what advice would you say to the beginner mobile DJ if they happen to somehow kill an amp, blow a fuse, or trip a breaker?
Lol i agree happend to me to many times when i was starting up but i didnt have money to have backups so i did what i can, today its much different got loads of back and loads of replacement parts lol am my own repear shop. I currently use the Denons 3500 there pretty sturdy and you can mix with just one cd player if ever the other should breakdown and if in some way or doing of great missfortune i just pull out ma numarks axis 9 and keep on rolling on a good night i use all 4 at de same time :)
Good hints there. Yes I can imagine that you don't take that piece as your 1st choice but as backup. Tho think those are mostly targeted for beginner djs to get it all in one for starting out.

personally i think people are chasing the past laptops from £250 two laptops one spair if you got cash!
but only used for djing on never for inet or games
and most of your viewers would be OK on one CD because they are all mastermix users anyway?
gigs are hard to come by most pro mobile djs aint got spair cash
