Ha just read all the comments from Americans made me laugh the big difference is our banger racers actually race so speeds are a lot higher!! I've seen some massive smashes in my time and drivers always walk away it's a surprisingly safe sport that makes the USA demo derbies look tame!!!

most of these pics are extreme and most have ben jacked after the driver has got out but iv raced a seen first hand how much damage they take .only ever got a sore foot racing in 3 years and that was hitting a mk 2 granada head on with my xj6 jag

i build and race bangers myself and rarely does anyone get badly injured apart from

a stiff neck and maybe the odd broken thumb or wrist when steering the wheel moves.

you have more chance getting hurt when exiting the vehicle while race is still going on.

@tb400 all the drivers where driving these cars and all walked away except a few broken bones here and there and there was no fatality's in any of these wrecks. there has only been a handfull of deaths over the 40 years of banger racing in the uk

American Iron is tuff as hell, this is a different game all together though, especially when you consider follow ins, ive seen nationals riding into stationary cars at almost 60mph so no matter how hard the car is youre gonna get flatend

u should run a built derby here in the states. there's a difference hitting a car that has been built and a stock car. when u make a car not bend all the energy goes to the person driving the car. the more the car bends the less you feel.

if our cars are tanks how would we be hammered. youd hit ours with ur go karts and they'd be the ones to crunch, a caddilac against a mini in a good hard hit id say the mini would lose or another big car such as buick, caprice, wagons and so on, an escort has lil more girth on these things, but i bet its fun as hell to drive one. i've seen some pretty fast monte carlos on the dirt and ashphalt and what hapens when they hit about the same, but you cant compare minis with detroit iron

yes i think the mini would lose that one but in the uk we race the cars with the same engine sizes so a mini would race with the smaller cars and also there is 1400cc races 1600cc , 2000cc then the unlimited cc witch we race your tanks along side english made jaguars and rolls royces and large fords so we never see a mini racing with big cars afraid due to heath and safety in the uk but would love to see it!

you can race bangers from the age of 17 i think but you might be able to race at 16 with your parents consent at some tracks. But your best having a go in a mini stock to get hang of racing first

The driver who raced it in the end was lee weekes (rdc 15 but raced under the number 615 that day).

All of the drivers where ok. A few picked up broken bones and some got K.O. on impact. But mostly the cars take the damage not the drivers due to well built cars and good driving because its the car you want to kill not the driver!!!

Yes Andy Davis had a jag and put cotty,s grany in flat out up the top bend and the roof piller hit a post snaping it of large. i have seen a few like that up arena over the years but the one that was by far the best was the one denno had in the world finals a few years ago. He left the bonnet, water tank ,wing and door skin on the post and walked away.
