without gap: just take a flathead screw driver and insert it at the top left corner, this will make a small cap between door and car, and will not damage it. insert a coat hanger through and press the unlock button on the door panel. door unlocks, simple as that.

LOL...I did the same thing today. I absent mindedly locked my keys in the kar as I was at the park jogging. Luckily I left my windows open a crack so my car wasn't too hot when I was done. A woman who was cutting her grass gave me a wire clothes hanger and I used it to pull the hand crank for the window enough to lower the window. I then simply reached in and unlocked the door.

Your comment makes no sense... If you car locks up with keys inside, and IF you happen to have your window open just a bit, you CAN get the keys from the ignition etc this way. If not, you would need MORE tools to open the door or call locksmith. This method = cheap!

1. Why not, if you have the time and money. I saw a locksmith open a car with a crappy piece of wire, why pay IF you can do it yourself?

2. I never said that this was the best method of car opening, just one of many. I always prefer using the car keys if there is a chance. Air wedges etc can break the glass. I paid 0 bucks for the tool since i made it my self.

3. Of course you should always find the easiest and best method for YOUR car. There really aren't that many options for xantia's.

You can very easily lock the keys in the car in older cars. Cenral locking may fail etc. Just google for keys locked in car and see how many results you get :)
