To all those who say Proto man is better than Zero, read this: Zero is like a phoenix, he may die but always returns. Zero doesn't need a shield to fight (the Shield boomerang of the Zero series is a weapon no one used.) Proto man has an impressive resume, but Zero's is much longer and more detailed, saving the world more times than Proto man (And did so alone in the Zero series) Zero has his own series, (The Megaman Zero series) and showed up in 3 timelines X, Zero, ZX, where he was playable.

Proto man was the first robot from Dr. Light. Proto man had a faulty power core, and he was worried Light would take his personality if he fixed him, so he fled.

Wily found Proto Man, fixed his power core, and made him a combat robot, but Proto man ran off on his own after that.

Zero cameoed in the Power Fighters, a game where Proto Man was playable
