Thank you kindly. Jay's fiddle version is indeed wonderful. I was very happy to come across El McMeen's arrangement so I could give it a go on guitar.
My late husband used to sit at the foot of the bed when I was having trouble sleeping and play this song until I fell asleep! This song means so very much to me and I am very glad that I came across your video! Thank you so much!
@andynsherry09 I’m very touched by your post, and happy that my recording was able to bring joy into what must still be a sad memory for you. Thanks again for your kind words, and all the best to you!
I think for this tune I used a pair of AKG C1000S condenser mics. Not the best in the world but I get good results with them. I usually fiddle with the placement until it sounds right. This particular guitar (Blanchard 00-12 fretter) records amazingly well though, so I'm fortunate to have it.
I've seen your videos, and I must say, you are a very talented player with feeling and precision. I'm hooked on this tune anywhere I can find the tabs?
Nice to meet up with you again, and thanks for the kind words. Let me know if you want to take a look at El's version. I also have Larry's but El's felt smoother to me under the fingers.
Yeah, I just discovered AGF. I'm a little slow! :-)
Awesome! I love El's arrangement and you add some pizzazz that makes it your own. Fantastic sounding guitar too. I'll be back... hitting the subscription button now.
Beautiful playing on a beautiful tune Andre! Its one of those tunes which would fit easily into the Scottish or Irish tradition as well as the American tradition. As always a joy to see and hear you play!
It's nice to hear from you my friend. Hope you have been making great music as always. I still play your recent tunes on my car CD.
I think you are absolutely right. The inspiration for this melody and tune most certainly originates from your your part of the world, with perhaps a layering of American fiddle tradition to complete the picture.
Thanks so much for your post. Hope to hear from you soon.
The tuning is CGDGAD, which is the adopted tuning of El McMeen, the arranger of the piece. El's work for some years now has been exclusively in this tuning, which works great for his material.
Indeed it does. The tuning lends itself perfectly for the tune. This may have in fact prompted El McMeen to give this one a go. I'm certainly happy that he did! :-)
It's great to see that you're still around! You've been very quiet on the music front. Hope all is well with you. Yes, it would be nice to meet one day and share some quality time with a couple of guitars!
Wow...Kicks butt!
