  • w w w the clash dot org dot uk

  • la unica band que empuerta-----the only band that matters----still inspirating legions of bands all across the globe----el combo Clash vive---

  • Um...they're the only band that mattered in '79. Don't get too confused.

  • Where's Topper when you need him.

  • what year is this?

  • @cookies2992 (US Festival - 5/28/83). Written on my bootleg tape.

  • @RaptureandZune haha very cool. thanks man

  • @cookies2992 FYI, Mick left The Clash 3 months after this performance.

  • perfeito !

  • Seven people should get murdered.

  • @mildredmoira that's just dumb. everything joe wouldn't stand for. if 7 don't like the music, then they can go elsewhere and be happy. let us be happy here. no murder anywhere, not even for a damn thumbs up.

  • @mildredmoira LMAO ironic that you would make such a comment, when this song is clearly ANTI murder and actually deals with the disturbingly casual way people think and talk about it.

  • brividi lungo la schiena.......from the deep of my heart....forever

  • exactly 30 years ago.... oh God, how I'm old! x___x

    The greatest band ever!

  • Mick said goodbye to The Clash singing his soul out in this concert!!!

    RIP Joe Strummer

  • Fabuloso, a minha banda preferida...The Clash. Forever!

  • I love the ringing, bell-like guitars at the start and the anticipation you get from the drums then they go into rocking from the belling guitars...that's one of the things I love about The Clash - the songs always have so many change-ups, the syncopation between the time changes, the guitar styles (especially exquisite in this) and the vocal stylings of our sainted Joe - my god, was there ever such a creative, effective singer and, what would you say, sounder? Witness the end of London Calling.

  • 6 people who clicked dislike on this could well get...

  • What concert is this? I have scene a lot of songs from it...

  • @Deadgoat222 this was the clashes last concert with mick jones before he got sacked so pretty much this was the clashes legitament concert

  • @inchwormgreen Can you tell me why Mick Jones was sacked? Jones and Strummer seemed to synch so well.... I saw an interview video where Joe said he regretted breaking up the band: I didn't know it was firing MICK JONES! I've also seen a vid of Mick from recent days, he's balding, looks old but is teaching a class & he is so obviously enjoying it, big smile. Warms my heart he's doing okay; chills my heart Joe isn't. What a fucking tragic loss to the world.

  • @chrstnlmllr51 yes i as well wish joe was still here on the earth :(. but if i remember correctly it was because A combination of musical differences, a lack of punctuality, and band infighting

  • @inchwormgreen Ah- now I remember! In that interview where Joe said he wished he hadn't broken up The Clash I DO remember something about tardiness and it wasn't just a half hour either, as I recall. Such a pity. Sounds like Mike was in full rebellion, with the tardiness to show disrespect. I wonder if he was pulling for more standard love songs like Stand By Me, which I love but wouldn't like a lot of it. Can't image Joe would want Clash Lite. But I love Mick, always so dorky but so talented.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICK!!!

  • Somebody was murdered, you might as well have been Strummer. 50 years too young, not a day passes that I don't miss you. I feel like you were murdered, but what was it you said? "There's something quite good about coming, saying your bit and then gong. I quite like that." Maybe you felt it was time, but I don't. RIP Strummer.

  • @bioshockt Well-said but why do you say it might as well have been Strummer who was murdered? Just curious because the thought has often crossed my mind, esp watching those early vids and ESP the Tom Snyder ones that Joe moved so fast, felt so deeply, put so much emotion into his performances, he burnt himself out early, god damn it. We needed him. But do you know something different?

  • @chrstnlmllr51 I guess I feel that he was taken far too early. Someone like Joey Ramone, I'm of course sad he died but he lived a good life. He was nearly blind by the end there, he had his issues medically, he'd been through so much, then he made that one last album saying, "Its ok, I'm happy to go. I've had a good time" Its sad yes, but in its own way its ok. Joe though, it might as well have been he was murdered. It wasn't his time, instead of going when ready, he was taken. Like being killed

  • @bioshockt Yeah, plus Joey Ramone, no offense to his place in punkdom, was a lightweight compared to the towering talent of Joe Strummer. Like they say, The Clash: The Only Band That Matters. My God, I'm listening to Ghetto Defender right now, what a brilliant layered song of insight. Even the title is awesome.

One thing I just thought of, which may soothe your pain a bit - Joe went fast, no prolonged, painful death like Joey. I love your quote from Joe. He said what was profound and true.

  • @chrstnlmllr51 I wouldn't say Joey was a lightweight, since without him punk wouldn't be what it is, but he definitely didn't have Strummers staying power. For both of them, their last albums were some of their best. Adios Amigos a perfect farewell for the Ramones. Streetcore only felt like the beginning for Joe though, a new chapter, such a perfect album. I know Joe passed quickly, which to me almost makes it worse. I wouldn't have wanted him to suffer, but I think he would've fought on.

  • @bioshockt I think you're right, Joe would have fought on not only for himself but for the ones without a voice, as he always did.

  • @chrstnlmllr51 I'm sure he would have. I've met people who met Joe, and they all seem to say he was really a nice guy. Despite the business he was in, music, he actually had a soul. Something so few in the music industry have. He would have continued to fight. It really is like he was murdered.

  • The Clash- the only band that matters! Met Mick Jones the other day, what a legend! Nicaragua, Sandinista! Long live the clash, long live equality!

  • @siouxise82 you met him the other day? lucky fook! Good for you tho, I love everything I've ever heard from him. I'll have to make it an effort to meet him now fosho cool youtube name btw

  • Went to US festival in San Bernadino, but not the day the Clash played??

    "Head Slap"

  • i love how there are no anti-clash comments on here. This makes me happy.

  • @MrBeatlesfan41 Me too, Mr Beatles Fan - I'm a George Harrison and Joe Strummer & The Clash fan myself. Thinking of changing my username to, uh, Georgia Clashson.....no, too hard to say. Clashia Georgison. Maybe. Maybe not, too disrespectful to each towering talent. LOL

  • Great song!!! And who r the idiots who disliked this

  • fabulous album and a much misunderstood band never saw them Joe R I P

  • Comment removed

  • Para mi es una de las mejores canciones de The Clash junto con Charlie don't surf, que la adoro por el sonido que tiene.

  • this song... just perfect

  • 5 people are going to get murdered*

  • @x0x0singer I been very hungry but not enough to kill

  • 5 people got murdered.

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!

  • Great song.

  • how is this not an intro to some CSI show????????

  • It is amazing how careful Mr.Jones were in dealing with the Nick Cave school of thought, and the confirmatory cry of "Buddha" gives us all hope for a future none would redouble in favour of a past dead & gone.

  • why do people think they are so great?

  • @DustyKiss76 because it's true

  • @DustyKiss76 cause they simply are

  • the only fucking band that ever mattered.end of!!

  • Eight years and Joe is still more important than Jesus

  • I grew up with the Clash ever since I was a little kid, and I fucking love them.

This is truly one of the greatest songs I have ever heard, and if you don't believe me when I tell you this, may I ask you to try listening to the studio version of this song?

FUCK YEAH, THE CLASH KICKS ASS!!!!!!! :)

  • As Joe himself once said, The Clash never played a single great gig after they sacked Topper....

This just doesn't have the energy of the glory days... Mick was soon to be sacked for being a primadonna and then it was downhill all the way.

  • @badmartianshrew ..the clash was awful without Mick and Topper, simply horrid.

  • @KrupaDrums ??? wasn't Mick singing that????? watchuon??

  • @KrupaDrums Actually the CLASH MK 2 live shows were well received. Anyone just has to listen to any tracks from 1984/85 to see that they were GOOD band. What they should have done was call themself something different to avoid comparison.

  • its not terry chimes on drums dude, i think its Pete Howard.

  • Who the fuck is the drummer?

  • @hughjunkie68 Terry Chimes...the first drummer of the band

  • that's not headon on the drums, right? who is that?

  • fuck i wish i was around during the generation

  • RIP Joe true genius some of the best lyrics ever written

  • I love all of you people for loving the clash.

  • @iamthefirsttosecond volimo i mi tebe serbian punk organization :****

  • @iamthefirsttosecond And we love you back for loving the Only band that matters.

  • absolute gold!

  • time to revolt our time whilst they are skint

  • the only band that matters =)

  • Now this is *BRILLIANT* !!!

  • is it weird that i think their all fucking gorgeous....

  • The best band EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:11, paul and joe are talking about booting mick. 3:11, Mick notices that something is wrong, next week, mick is booted from the clash.

  • @PBANDSNOW Ah, a devotee of black humor among us... hilarious at the same time it makes you sad

  • @chrstnlmllr51 Its not black humour, that totally happened.

  • @PBANDSNOW OK, you made me watch it again and again...Pete and Joe definitely had their heads together at :11; at 3:11 or 12 I see Mick's eyes flash but ? Is Joe singing something that clued him in? Whatever, it's a good story and I enjoyed every sec of re-watching. Still so sad though

  • @chrstnlmllr51 What's the "black humor"? I don't get what he says..nor do I hear it, well.

  • @afzoomie67 I thought @PBANDSNOW was kidding in a black humor way that Joe and Paul were discussing firing Mick, then that Mick looked over and was suspicious and and then got fired the next day. When I watched a few times I could see how he made it up. But he says it's the truth. I don't know how he could know but there it is! Could be true. Certainly it's true Mick got the boot.

  • @chrstnlmllr51 Oh, okay. Yeah, I knew Mick got the boot, or else, Cut the Crap wouldn't be as terrible as it was.

  • ok, it is a bond...sweet

  • sexy. just. pure sexy.

  • tis song, police on my back, train in vain, stay free some of the clashes most epic songs respect to mick jones

  • @mattyp3400 police on my back is a cover of an Eddie Nolan song

  • @TheEddster Actually its an Eddy Grant song, written while he was with The Equals, get your facts straight.

  • @motekhall where did i get nolan from then? :L i knew there was an Eddy in there somewhere

  • I MIIS YOU JOE! SO MUCH!

  • WHAT GUITAR IS mICK USING!?!?!?!?! it isnt a junior, it isnt gibson or fender, and i dont think its bond, what is it!!!

  • WHAT GUITAR IS KICK USING!?!?!?!?! it isnt a junior, it isnt gibson or fender, and i dont think its bond, what is it!!!

  • The greatest band of all times.

    We miss you, Joe.

  • The thing is that at the time you came out of a gig knowing it had been great but this was NORMAL - there were so many great Clash gigs. You just left is a sweat-soaked haze.

  • When you go through clash albums there is so many classics, not many bands that i sit there thinking 'FUCK ME HOW MANY GOOD TUNES' Beatles are one of them (For the 'diehardpunkfan1977' who hates anything except punk---SERIOUSLY CHECK THE BEATLES MATE) and the clash. Most artists are hit and miss, great singles/bad albums but Joe and Mick written some of the greatest songs of all time!

  • @Esc8TheF8te It had just crossed my mind that The Clash were the only inheritors to the Beatles creativity but then I thought, no, how can you compare them, the Beatles seem so much less dangerous. Then I read this and I thought again, about the Beatles in Germany early on and McCartney ripping Helter Skelter and about John Lennon taking on the FBI, George fighting for space, "artistic differences" breaking them up too. I think you got it right. Noice user name, BTW

  • never see this live *_*

  • #mm Somebody got Murdered - What music should be like. R.I.P. Joe

  • what a great song

  • Nowadays listening to The Clash brings tears in my eyes...

  • one of my favourite ever clash songs

  • @reallyfeelful Sorry...take it as a compliment even if you think differently, ok?

  • probably got knifed.

  • Strummer/Jones like Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards? DEFINITELY!

  • @yoyo3man i can't believe you dare compare Strummer/Jones to Lennon/McCartney!!!!

the Clash are so much better!

  • @reallyfeelful Lennon and Strummer- love 'em both sooooo much.

  • Somebody got murdered, goodbye, for keeps, forever.

  • @JackStraw65 Would you lovee babe...

  • this is amazing. pure musical genius. i wish i was around when they were about so i could hear them live, but i guess it says something about how awesome the clash were that 16 year olds are still listening and loving them to this day. their music will live forever.

  • goosebumps.. Never been a better group/act for me.. Miss you Joe

  • what guitar does mick have?

  • @wolfy6691 he favored Les Paul...mostly...(racket) I'll have another look

  • raw.....nothing will ever touch this number

  • hermosa canción :)

  • i don't know if that's Terry Chimes....but i know for sure it's not Topper Headon

  • @6610jb no it's the fifth drummer...it's the guy who was on last Clash line-up...Clive or James or Thingy not a bad drummer at all...I think he tries to emulate Topper here...Jones' angry...nasty sneer...he penned that I think...after a trip to Kingston, jamaica

  • @PoireauMan68 Pete Howard

  • wow thats incredible, what a great band.

  • my favourite punk band

  • possibly the best song ever wrote

  • AWSOME!

  • my favourite band an song

  • Fantastic....Is that Terry Chimes on drums?

  • the clash wrote it

  • GOT MURDEREDDDDDDDDDDD!

i had this song stuck in my head at school today. which isn't a bad thing :D

  • This is Mick singing- beautiful job!

  • besides city of the dead, this is my favorite clash song

  • i love this song

    i love sandinista!

    i love the clash

  • fucking greatest!

  • fuckin' awesome

  • top!!!!

  • R.I.Punk

    Joe strummer. legend!

    classic.

  • CLASIC PUNK! MICK JONES MAKES ME HARD!

  • Sandinista!! El mejor disco de punk que he escuchado!!...Desde Nicaragua saludos

  • I also seent he Ramones. I was cklass of 96 so we caught a revival of this great stuff and many acts were still in tour. I missed the Clash show in Seattle and have been drunk ever since, pissed.

  • what a band.. - THE band!

saw them around the time this was recorded ('83 - combat rock tour) @ cape cod coliseum in mass. never forgot the buzz & energy.

that weekend, elvis costello played the same venue touring for "punch the clock" - another great album from him...

  • RIP Joe

  • what guitar is mick using here. it aint his normal les paul.

  • Yeah, I was wondering that too,...it wouldn't be a Vantage would it? The headstock kind of looks like it could be. Great band eh?!!!

  • i think that is the ultra rare Bond Electraglide carbon fiber guitar

  • that's true, they made it a triple album...in order to get out of their cbs contract...way to fight the bullies!

  • I got too see the Ramones.

  • so lucky

  • ur right this is a class band at the time of great bands. joe strummer was 1 of my heroes

  • Best live band i ever seen !!

  • lucky bastard

  • This is just such a great song.

  • thats pete howard from eat

  • cool

  • One of the best songs on SANDINISTA!

A perfect example of why the Clash were so important. Thier songs meant so much.

  • what year was sandinista released? it sounds really good but on a joe strummer documentary on the sundance channel (if i heard him right) he said it didn't sell well and he lamented something about this album.

  • I believe Sandinista was released in 1980 as a triple album set.

  • 1981 it didnt sell well but The Clash gave up all their royalties so they could make it a triple , so they never made a dink from it, thats dedication.

  • @STRUMMER772003

classic vh1 aired some of the 1983 US festival in november but only once and didd't repeat it that month and i never saw the clash on it or i didn't record the complete show.

tons of people were at the US festival but few know about it compared to woodstock or live aid.

  • THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS!....STILL

Funny how all the bands today(i like a bunch of them)all look silly compared..over styled, over lit, over done...except for maybe Glasvegas...

  • The way it is, and the way it will always be.

    Mick, peace and love.

  • What is Strummer singing in his solo right before the final chorus line?

  • @electrifymymind2 "You know they said he wasn't himself today - blew him away."

  • there are clas trbute bands like COMBAT ROCK n der fans hu wanna enjoy the clashs music so get ur facts rite cos dey r nt makin a mocker

  • joe strummer will always be awesome!!!!

  • Is it just me or has anyone ever noticed that there is no Clash tribute band?

All the tribute bands make a mockery of the real thing.

  • Search Youtube...there's lots of them.

  • There should NEVER be! They were in their own fucking league and played by their own rules-something most artists and people are jealous of and rightfully so.

Their music is immensely liberating and inspiring as we all know.

  • @envaneo

I think on west coast, there is a tribute band called Clash City Rockers.

  • I'll check them out but i agree with japan906. Thanks

  • they got a site?

fuck it, I'll check em out.

  • Love Mick's curled lip throughout the song! Mick's performance in this video is awesome. A great artist and a great performer!
