Ellery Hale didn't build it; he didn't build the Wilson observatory either. Shoot, he didn't build the Yerkes either! He did build a great helio-spectroscope; he did build a couple of solar observatories; he did help make Pasadena what it is even today.

What's perhaps more amazing than anything else is how quickly the Palomar and even the Mount Wilson observatories were made . . . i don't think obsolete is quite the right word here . . . maybe antiques(although, in the case of the Palomar telescope a still functioning antique).
