Sometimes I see someone barreling toward a stop sign rather quickly and it doesn't look like they're going to stop, and I get scared and start slowing down in case they blow it. If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, slamming it in "Park" when sitting at a stop sign is a great way to find out if the complete stop has been achieved.
Find a country cross roads at about 4 am, and you'll catch people running stop signs at 45 + mph.
I've also found that coming to a complete stop at stop signs really pisses the people behind me off.
PS... I continue to be the asshole that comes to complete stops at stop signs.
Legally you are supposed to come to a complete stop.. look then go. But at many intersections.. you cant SEE from where the stop sign is. So you pull up, then look, then go when safe. If you live in the area and KNOW the road... your gonna blow the sign off and just pull up to where you can see, then go. You SHOULD stop at that point at least... but again.. often you can see both ways and see that its safe without stoping completly. Its illegal.. but common.

Acctually the only one acctually passed was the second car you considered "PASS" Its only a legal stop if you acctually stop. A Rolling stop is still illegal.

But if you go to big cities like Toronto - or even Montreal where it's A LOT WORSE - you'll see that the 70%-80% of motorists do not make a COMPLETE stop.

"Running" a stop sign and slowing down and moving on like the people in this video are two different things. My brother got ticketed for "running" a stop sign. Meaning he didn't even slow down, and he deserved it. But what this video shows is perfectly safe. These people are slowing down to 2km/h - that's SLOWER THAN WALKING SPEED and THEN driving through. I lived in 2 big cities in my time (London, UK and Toronto, ON). Cops there don't give a damn about mickey mouse shit like this.

If we don't have strict rules more and more people will ignore the safety risks because it's legal, people will drive faster and faster trough the stop sign, and maybe some people will even run at normal speed, because there are no rules that says they cant. Or are you suggesting that we shall change the law to "Don't drive faster than 5 mpg trough stop sign"? So then faster will be illegal and even more people will be ticketed because its harder to actually follow the limit.
Im not saying every driver who doesn't follow the sign is an idiot. But you have to agree with me, there are dumb drivers out there and they NEED signs to help them think. Therefore, even people who CAN think should follow the road signs, because if they don't more and more people will start ignoring them, making the risks even greater.
Some people actually do need a few seconds to think in some situations, and unfortunately they also do have a license. ;P

People DO get ticketed for jaywalking. And they usually ask the cop why they aren't out getting people who run stopsigns. Go figure.
