I was just enjoying watching some of your videos for the first time. (Never heard of you before). First, I would like to say they are terrifying! LOL I'm not afraid of snakes, but I think it's the venom that scares me. Not used to seeing people keep venomous snakes. My question is, is this just a hobby for you? Are you in the breeding business? What's your reason for keeping the venomous ones?
Aren't Indos some of the hardest to convert over? Was that 3 pinkies a week? Are these now eating mice voluntarily and if so....what was your process? Scenting? I have a few coming and I'm curious as to your hatchling setup? Hot spot? Any help would be appreciated.
Do you typically buy wild caught or buy captive bred? (breeding your own included in captive bred.) by the way i truly enjoy these videos. i love seeing all of the exotic and beautiful creatures you have.
I feed my monitor lizard snakes once in a while, he's a hungry dude and enjoys a snake meal. They are not wild caught either, I just do it a few times a year to change up his meals.
Have you experimented with pinky pumps at all? I used to use them on my Grey Banded Kings and they worked like a charm. Although they have intermittent clogging issues they would save you tons of time and risk.
I feel kinda stupid asking this because i know nothing about snakes but have been enjoying your clips and never miss one for about 5mths or so. So my question is....why do you have to force feed at all? What happens in the wild?
Viperkeeper, how long did it take for you to feel comfortable picking up venomous snakes like this? Im not particularly scared of snakes, and in fact love watching the videos you post, but I cant imagine myself ever having steady enough nerves to do it.
@amercnwmn It varies from snake to snake, some don't take long, others it seems like forever. I periodically test them by leaving some f/t pinks in the cage with them overnight. They are diurnal so if they don't eat while the lights are on they won't during the night. The 'Buzzard' took a year, all done by my friend Eric.
Hey Al, Great Footage & Quick question - I saw kristen at the Kentucky Reptile Zoo feeding their baby Kings inside a tube - It was form-fitted, where the snake would not be able to turn it's head from side to side, and it seemed to work really well, and sinced it's tubed, the risk of being bitten is much less of a risk than hand holding them while force feeding. Any thoughts on why you don't force feed this way?Is there more of a riskto harm the snake that way? Just curious. Cheers! ~Lee
@viperkeeper Do you take them out in order to prevent the spread of the species in the area you live in, or is it just to protect potential victims of a snake bite?
I can see where this hobby (?) would get to be addictive while dealing with these critters.

viperkeeper 1 year ago
Good vid Al, very informative.
For me a smooth surface works well so i dont use the towel under the snake.
i dont like the snake to get a grip on anything.
I can see how it relaxes the baby snake though and it does work well for you.
