it's not about whom the police protect, it's about why- because some ppl can't protest without using violence, and I'm afraid Taiwan has a pretty bad record of that. I don't see the point of blaming someone for sending troops to protect a high profile foreign envoy. In the US, you see that all the time. The action itself has little to do with politics...
I participated in a couple of protests in U.S. where the supporters and protesters gathered at their own designated areas, are allowed to express their opinions and to vent their anger at the controversial foreign officials, like Chinas Hu Jin-Tao, or its own president, like Bush, while the targeted person is well protected by the policemen. Thats civilization and democracy. Unfortunately, Taiwan has turned backward under current governing body.

Someone ordered the police forces to get rid of all symbols representing ROC/Taiwan, and to mute all different voices, using excessive force, depriving Taiwanese the rights to freedom of speech, exprression, and assembly. That someone is above the law. His adminstration has turned democratic Taiwan into a police-state. Its politics at its worse form.
I am Taiwanese, born to Taiwanese parents. And my grandparents and their parents were born in Taiwan too. Therefore, my ancestors are Taiwanese. Taiwan is the best. Who gives a sh*t about China.
