I think the logic is kind of backwards though; a lot of people probably end up on EBT because they can't understand sacrifices and being an adult. Maybe it should be a requirement for one to at least make an attempt at fixing their lifestyle if they want to be on EBT. I think we should definitely restrict food stamps to buying actual food, not junk food, not fast food. I have nothing against eating something tasty (which I do sometimes), but that's strictly entertainment, not nutrition.
At least iPhones generally don't harm or kill people. What bothers me infinitely more is when people take MY tax dollars and KILL themselves and their children buying JUNK FOOD with it. My mother was enrolled in the EBT program in 2002. My dad died on 9/11 and he supported our home so she had no other choice with 4 children. We were enrolled in the program until 2005. I graduated college in 05 for PT and found a great job. Then I took over for dads responsibilities and we hadn't seen the EBT cars since. My 3 brothers are also out of college now and we all have jobs. So Some people do need it.

I worked at a homeless shelter in the US and there were people there that had iPhones and smoked brand name cigs and I didn't get it... they often usually refused to pay their $30 rent per month out of their SSI checks for months... some even had SUV's... not all of them of course.... some weren't "lifestyle" folks but I saw this same thing at homeless shelters... it is crazy...
I buy into the mentality that poor people make poor choices. Government assistance runs out eventually- do the people doing these things understand that they won't have "free money" forever? The other day I went to visit my friend who's using EBT cards. We went to the store to buy some food. But what surprised me the most is that she was able to buy energy drinks with the EBT card. I don't think poor people need energy drinks. I'm poor myself. I just graduated from college and I can't find a job. I have no money. But I'm NOT planning to ask the government for help. One of the places that I work at is a shelter for vets down on their luck, and I can tell you from seeing it everyday that EBT and iPhones/Droids do belong together. These devices have full internet, which means that they can be used any time of the day for looking up jobs online. There aren't many people tha t truly need food stamps or welfare. Disabled people are the only ones that may need food stamps. People that have been laid-off may need them. @mrmike803 The point the the person in the video, as well as me, is trying to convey is that if you have the extra money to buy nice jewelry and other luxuries, why dont you sell that and use the extra money to buy your own groceries. My mother was enrolled in the EBT program in 2002. My dad died on 9/11 and he supported our home so she had no other choice with 4 children. We were enrolled in the program until 2005. I graduated college in 05 for PT and found a great job. Then I took over for dads responsibilities and we hadn't seen the EBT cars since. My 3 brothers are also out of college now and we all have jobs. So Some people do need it.

I worked at a homeless shelter in the US and there were people there that had iPhones and smoked brand name cigs and I didn't get it... they often usually refused to pay their $30 rent per month out of their SSI checks for months... some even had SUV's... not all of them of course.... some weren't "lifestyle" folks but I saw this same thing at homeless shelters... it is crazy...

I buy into the mentality that poor people make poor choices. Government assistance runs out eventually- do the people doing these things understand that they won't have "free money" forever? The other day I went to visit my friend who's using EBT cards. We went to the store to buy some food. But what surprised me the most is that she was able to buy energy drinks with the EBT card. I don't think poor people need energy drinks. I'm poor myself. I just graduated from college and I can't find a job. I have no money. But I'm NOT planning to ask the government for help. I believe in myself and I know I'll find a job.

b4 I understood what food stamps were..I never understood why people even got food stamps, but then my 8th grade English teacher told us about how she was in the cafe and saw kids with Jordans and Laker jerseys, Coogi&ipods &all this stuff...but they were using a meal plan for kids who used food stamps at home, I can't remember the name of it, but then those same kids were using CASH MONEY to buy $10 worth of snacks and cafe food that wasn't reduced or free priced. She said it was $10 a day!

Thats for only going to school for ONE year, so no excuses to be poor, and college only cost him around $3000 for the whole year, so poor people dont deserve an iphone they need to live within their means

One of the places that I work at is a shelter for vets down on their luck, and I can tell you from seeing it everyday that EBT and iPhones/Droids do belong together. These devices have full internet, which means that they can be used any time of the day for looking up jobs online. Just because someone has a temporary problem with cash flow doesn't mean that they should be relugated to crappy inferior products. I understand your side, but I think there are a lot of factors that you're not seeing.

There aren't many people tha t truly need food stamps or welfare. Disabled people are the only ones that may need food stamps. People that have been laid-off may need them. There should be a six month limit for these people. You can find a way to earn money and if you can't then you aren't trying very hard.

@mrmike803 The point the the person in the video, as well as me, is trying to convey is that if you have the extra money to buy nice jewelry and other luxuries, why dont you sell that and use the extra money to buy your own groceries. There have been many occasions where I have witnessed women flaunting their fancy coach purses while, at the same time, they're buying groceries via foodstamps. Its a freaking travesty.
