I was in North Lake at Incline Beach w/ binoculars the first day this erupted! From across the lake you could see each tree go up like a Bic lighter going off! Scary stuff lets all hope for a wet summer here in Tahoe!!!
Don't start blaming people. I am a defensible space contractor and clear brush/trees every day in Truckee. People are being fined for not clearing lots, and you're home owners insurance will drop you of you aren't in compliance with the fire marshalls. I cleared 48 lots this summer alone and who knows how many in total. We are doing everything we can for fire prevention in Tahoe. This tragedy ruined many peoples lives and they or the fire departments are not to blame!!
During and after the fire, the smoke just sat above the Tahoe basin, when we were driving through a meadow one afternoon the smoke blocked the sky and sun, making the sky orange, it looked like another planet. People could also smell its smoke south of yosemite the next morning after it erupted
this fire start and spread fast it overwhelmed everyone so dont blame your fire department plus those house are gone so why risk lives to save a house alrady gone they were most likely at house that they could save
There were no firefighters there because it was too dangerous. They'd move in and do what they could, but when things got too dangerous, they had to get out, for their own safety. Better just houses than people along with that..
poeple who said this fire was coming to us and all that stuff you are heartless 17 of my friends and I MYSELF LOST EVERYTHING... We ourselves knew that the TRPA was a bunch of idiots and have tried to cut down trees to thin out N upper Truckee...but they said its dangerous...but to me it sounds like you people are saying that Tahoens brought it om themselves WE DIDNT...think about that
Just a big waste of money, this is whhy u dont build 400 houses 200 feet apart in the mountains. to keep them free of brush and fuel is kinda hard, even for the Forest service. Now they should give you guys money for those houses and just make zoning ag. Dont want to make everyone mad, but this did cause alot of trouble that may have been prevented
TRPA makes things so damn hard for people here. You have to get a permit to cut down ONE TREE. It's ridiculous. They got flamed bad after the fire, but I'm not sure if they've changed their policy...
well go fuck urself what u want us to live ia a drug infested murder filled city i will take my chances with the bears and snow and rare wildwire okay
yea i know my dad worked at the airport they fined the airport 100,000 for cutting 32 extra trees then they gave them a courtesy permit for 200 more trees
That house catching on fire WAS my boyfriends...and if u saw the pics of the govenator lifting weights in the rubbel of someons house...they were my boyfriend Steve's...God Arnold is a jackass
Wow, I use to be a wildland firefighter and dude you were way to close to the fire for a resident. If the wind changed or picked up at all or if a spot fire started behind you and blocked you in, you would be crispy.Glad your ok though.
All the veteran firefighters would say it's not if it's when a big fire happens in Tahoe, well it did and now everyone cares about thinning. So sad, its a knee jerk reaction.
Wow, you're nuts for being there, but the house behind the truck to the left of the telephone poll (white garage door) is mine. My wife and I had to fight back the tears. We haven't been allowed back into the area yet, so your video really brings the stark reality to us. I'm glad you didn't get hurt.
I am so sorry for your loss. I live on Shoshone and had biked over. We attempted to put garden hoses on decks of homes on the Court. Obviously it was out of control. If there is anything I can do, please do not hestitate to contact myself. I have additional video that was not posted. Mark
Mark, thanks for responding to my post. Is your place okay? I'd like to see any video you might have that shows my place. We didn't go in today(Friday) we're in the Bay Area and I have a bike race in Socal Sunday so we're going to try and make it back up Monday. I wanted to thank you for the video when I wrote my post but I wasn't sure if you'd know it was sincere, but it is. Thanks, Bob B.
My home was spared. Stories are emerging that Lake Valley made a stand and were able to save the rest of the homes on our street. I appreciate your sincerity. Several folks who lost homes were able to see videos and pix and have been very appreciated. Let me know when your up or if there is any other footage I can grab for you tomorrow. Mark
Mark, thanks. My son and I were up there today going through the rubbel. Only think that's left are the brass numbers from my mailbox. My neighbor, Dave, said you came by, sorry I missed you. I plan to be Wednesday, maybe and then again this weekend. Again, thanks.

The wind was blowing cross from our position. We experienced heat waves at times...especially in the forest early on.

I'd like to know how intense was the heat, and what was smell like?
