I don't think the deer was stupid. I think he was just shocked about being the target of 3 shots but still standing. I would do the same if I was the deer, only I'd be looking down at my body to see where I'm hit. I'm sure if the deer could turn his neck 140 degrees he'd be checking his body too.

When I lived in Northbay San Francisco in the hilly town of San Rafael within 3-4 years I saw 3-4 packs of deer about 15 times just walking in between homes and trees. They were nearly domesticated. I got as close as 10 feet to them before they stopped eating and jumped 10-20 feet back. Once when I was inside my parked car a deer walked by my window 5 feet away.

This hunter should have seen that his scope is off to the left by a foot so he could aim over deer's back and hit the chest.
