So, once the cartridge carrier had gone through the fiting cycle and fell out the bottom/side of the gun, all somebody needed to do was clean it out, put in a new papere cartridge and fit a new nipple, and rop it in the hopper for another 'ride'. So simple, but so deadly!
The primer was fixed on the percussion cap nipple at the certer of the rear of the steel/iron cartidge carrier that you see being fed into the drum. Inside the steel/iron cartridge carrier was seated the paper cartridge with the buller pushed into the front opening. Looking at a round, it would look like a short (about 4" long) steel/iron barrel itself, open and '.58' cal at the front and closed at the rear, except for a small central hole at th rear/middle, outside of which was the cap nipple.
