  • @JEEFASAUNAARIZONA u funny twat!!!! LMAO

  • These people act like they've never seen a movie camera before!

  • wigan born,wigan bred.....;-)

  • Strangely melancholic.

  • They didn't have technology, but they had an "i pud", which they had with onions and gravy............mmmmmmm!.

  • The youtube "Time Machine".

  • most of these boys probably died in ww1

  • what are those boys holding up to the camera?

  • those are some hot retro boys in that film. o.O

  • 1:02 the guy grabbing the guys hat on the far left humorously. it feels very strange to be able to identify emotion and humor with people who are long dead, but some how are still alive thanks to video.

  • People will marvel even more in 200 years at videos from 2011. There is a sort of intimacy and a peak we have reached in high definition video. Videos with colour and in beautiful high definition are for more ''intimate'' than those of 1900. Our great grand children will probably watch channels like charlieissocoollike and be installed with an eerie feeling of ''he has been gone a long time, yet he is so current in this video :(''

  • it's sad to watch how european and britain is being destroyed by Third World immigrants muslimc,africans...allready most of uk citys are turnin to pakistan.

  • @verdefull

even if you were to stop immigration now. Within 300 years europe would still be majority asian/black. Higher birth rates and dominant skin gene as well as controlling the largest population centres. The UK has more asians and blacks than most european countries. When UK quality of life declines they'll help to turn your nation into pakistan as well.

Just type into youtube ''dublin today'' ''swedan malmo muslims'' ''spain is the land muslim''

  • Pie Eaters.

  • I wonder how many of the young lads in the film ended up giving their lives in the mud and bullets of the first world war trenches a few years later ? God bless them x

  • HAHA, look at the kid in the bottom right at 1:53 making goofy gestures at the camera...kids never change.

  • Strange to think all these lively people are all now long gone.

  • The guy 1.52 secs at the back putting his thumb to his nose and wiggaling his fingers is pure gold.:)

  • not one person without a hat on...

  • can we return to this please?... all so smartly dressed and not one fat person around...

  • Was it known for it's pies way back then lol. Pie eaters

  • they wouldnt be allowed to spray water on people now, they would probably be sued or done for health and safety. Sad how sterile our world has become

  • Vey well done, a look into the past

  • wow...people from 109 years ago. amazing. I waved hi back lol.

  • Watching this clip makes me wonder what life was like for them in those days and what happened to them in later life.

  • @greenisland75

why do you care, you never knew them

  • @gatheringleaves Its called empathy you prick you should try it

  • @gatheringleaves gatheringleaves you fool, shrivel up and die

  • @greenisland75 Life was hard and they died early.

  • Wonderful. Great faces. Each unique.

  • Look at the little mill lasses with their head scarves. Musta worked in the cotton mills. My great grandma was in the mills at 12. She wore a head scarf n clogs til the day she died.

  • thats so amazin to be able to see part of my home town from over 100 years ago!

  • god imagine if in 1902 they put a camera at the top of the parish church in wigan overlooking the town and left it running all the way upto nowadays. then timelapse it and speed it up. would be amazing to see things getting knocked down then new things getting rebuilt. the parish church has lived through it all. its surroundings have changed dramatically however it hasn't changed one bit.

  • Bet None Of These Folks Would Ever Imagine That More Then A Century Later People Will Be Seeing Them On A Thing Called YouTube...WOW!

  • @ModelMan1987 And most of those individuals in this footage would probably be dead by now.

  • Amazing ! That's the first time I've seen old video of Wigan like that. Thanks.

  • Life looked a bit harsh in those days but for those people it was normal. My grandson thinks it was barbaric for me to have been working in a car factory when I was only 15 years old, but at the time it was normal and OK.

  • Some bonny Wiganer's there....

  • They look so poor & malnurished compared to the 1902 film of the electric tram in Bradford. Those girls in shawls had pretty faces though bless em !!

  • It is tragic to think that quite a lot of those kids would be in the trenches in 12 years time.

  • The truth about the Mitchell and Kenyon Film find is incorrect you can find the full facts at the Gregory Audio Visual Website under "News Tab"

  • bad joke you retard

  • Health & Safety wouldnt allow him squirt them kids with that hosepipe now,hed be banged up.good vid though

  • To think that but for an inquisitive workman all the M&K films might have been lost for ever. BTW notice most women and girls had their heads covered. Why?

  • god i bet my grandad is there sumwere

  • wigan is the best legendary!

  • old times hey

  • im from wigan and its under reted for lots of things and gets called a-lot

good place , nwt wrong wiv it

  • correct me if i"m wrong but isn't that where the grand arcade is now?

  • what is wigan like today?

  • pretty much the same really lol

  • look at all of those unsupervised children roaming aroung wild and free.....

  • HAHA LEGEND

  • i think that footage is taken in front of where the moon is now. as it pans round that is looking down market street at the end. what does anyone else think?!

  • How lucky those children were

  • Best place in the world ,WIGAN.

  • Not a fat person in sight! Ho ho - they were malnourished that's why. being fat is just another form of not eating proper like. Brilliant footage. Very moving. Those poor kids would probably have been mashed in the 14-18 war.

Love to see the two hour Life in Wigan film the speaker talks of. Thanks loads for this. Ex-wiganner

  • Fabulous!

  • Beautiful, this vid feels so warm and it makes me smile

  • I wish people dressed more like that these days, people where I live don't care how they look, they feel the need to dress as crappy as possible, sad

  • Hes right!.

Not a fat person in sight.

  • Does anyone know about any film of Rebecca Clarke, an English centennarian born in the 1790s? I've read of this film's existence, its accompanying note, as well as a description of what it depicts... but I haven't been able to find where it is!

  • Brilliant footage. Wonder if any of those are relatives of mine?!

  • this is truly amazing..im blown away.,magical footage of a magical town.(didnt know they were filming stuff this long ago),.thankyou mr mitchell and kenyon..you were well ahead of the game..god bless the souls of them,,and everyone in the vid..just beautifull.

  • Amazing clarity, where can I find more like this of Wigan?

  • wow, so much to see and hear of.

  • everyone wore hats

  • Beautiful so many thoughts cross your mind whilst watching.

  • This is the top of Libary St, where the Moon Under The Water pub is. Your on Market Place, It then pans to the left past the old public toilets, and then down Market Place where the Crofters pub is.

  • i can't picture where about that is now

  • I love how well dressed everyone were... suited and booted.

  • Fantastic Stuff, many thanks

  • All the girls wearing shawls, great history.

  • lol@ 1:02 the fellow waving the other guys hat!

  • Long before Orwell arrived!
