Just so those making comments are aware, the ARFF training fires at the GTAA FESTI are propane fueled not trays of jet fuel. Second Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters are trained to approach aircraft fires using an elevated attack in order to cover the fire and fuel with vapour suppressing foam while limiting flame spread and fuel movement. Aiming at the base of the fire could and more then likely would push the fire under the aircraft or under an opposite wing making it more difficult to control.
Mohsinalinasim: I am no firefighter myself, but I did have extensive "lay" training when I worked for an electric utility company. I learned that not only is it important to aim at the base, but also to sweep just over top of the base so as to place a blanket barrier to oxygen over the fire. Now if you watch the video again, you'll see that's what they were doing. They were also aiming to keep the fuselage cool.
They actually did the demo twice. It was only planned for the morning, but apparently so many missed it, they were compelled to do a second one in the afternoon. Sorry you missed it. They had a program paper they were handing out.
Aiming at the base of the fire could lead to fuel being splashed up...you do not want to do that....You can aim at the base if u had a snozzle though, with one u have better control
"It's just like a big campfire!" funny quote

Nice Video. Too bad I missed that part, I guess I left too early. These fire engines are really amazing.
Thanks for sharing
