nothing in nature is useless. There may be vestiges of things that at one point were useful and no longer are, but typically most things are not 'useless' else they would not exist
Beautiful! I'm suprised it got that close (I couldn't make out its sex). This vid nicly shows off the threser's pectoral fins. I think they are to often overlooked in favor of the shark's odd tail and head.

@ElodyTamTam Well thresher sharks aren't known to be aggressive.
Though I do believe there have been incidents where divers have been struck by their tail fin. But I think most instances haven't been on purpose.
But this is my favorite shark!

the long caudal fin of a thresher shark is sometimes used as a weapon to stun its prey.
