I don't see what the point of the DVD was. They're VERY, VERY obviously NOT performing the music you hear on the DVD!! It's basically a recording of one of their albums laid over top of a video of them playing some other song.
Well, certainly the intellect that man has as a result of G-d's love for His creation, made manifest for our enjoyment by this great music is enough for me. Blatant praise for Jesus is actually very short sighted of you noe, isn't it???
@aeropilot: I wouldn't expect anything less from a person that doesn't know or understand God's word. But, to clue in to one revelation you may not know or understand, He inhabits the praises of His people. Think about that.
@RedVynil: Actually, I read it wherever I'm at and I take it with me wherever I go. It's the Good News! I can't imagine how empty your life is without the Lord, but with Him, life is good!
@mjnr1fan: I'm afraid you're mistaken. But that's to be expected when you don't know anything about God or His Word. That's the problem with this final generation you live in. The morality you speak of withers on the vine without God, as you can clearly see in America. Evil of ever kind is rampant throughout our nation, so where is this morality you speak of?
@1LonePuma Do you think reading a book and pray will save you? or rather go to help poor peoples on the street. The church is a corupted money-stealing machine. The Bible was written during some Ecumenical councils. Also , do you think that peoples of other religions would not be saved , even if in their way of life is more healty and less sinfull than the way of Christianity.
@mjnr1fan: Why not read the Bible and educate yourself as to what you can expect the moment you pass. I'm sure you'll be glad you did and it will answer all your questions.
If you don't take the time to read, at least the New Testament, then you'll never know what hit you when you stand before the Lord on your judgment day!
Best Regards
P.S. There is no one else but Lord that has paid for your sins. The choice is yours and as is the consequences. You'll have no one to blame but yourself
@RedVynil: So you know, it's not just for church!! It's God's wisdom, which is to be applied to our lives to live the abundant life. I suppose you wouldn't know that, as you've never picked it up to read it. How unfortunate for you.
@1LonePuma Us crazy human's wrote it and if you want to find out what it REALLY means, look up some Jordan Maxwell videos on YouTube. If it's really god's word, how is it that WE decided to usurp your god's decision and cut out a LOT of books that were originally there, stuff your god supposedly wanted us to know? Somebody doesn't want us to know certain things!! Do some research and see that MANY, MANY "messiah's" have the EXACT same life story as Jesus.
@RedVynil: 2Timothy3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" If you knew anything at all about the other books, you'd see how Satan was involved to deceive you. God is holy and cannot lie, Satan is the Father of lies and has come to deceive you. But, God always proves himself to his own. God is still showing himself in the world!
Choose whom you'll believe, your life depends on it.
@1LonePuma I choose to believe in the real people around me that actually help me and do things with me and for me, not some man-made invisible man that lives in the sky that hasn't done a THING to help ANYONE, EVER!! Your god is the sun!! Do some research, you'll find out. Religion was made up long ago so dumb people would stop thinking for themselves. If they did, they would actually see what's REALLY going on in the world around them! As long as you believe, you can fooled!! Time to wake up!
MSM4U2POM, It is a shame that you did not have the pleasure of these guys paying attention to you at the concert. "Like them or hate them you have to admit there has been another band like Tangerine Dream".
Fair comment.
When they make actual music (by which I mean something with a tune) they are quite entertaining; unfortunately most of their work is just self-indulgent drivel. I saw them at the Birmingham Odeon in the early 1980's and can honestly say I've never seen any band with less interest in the audience; it was as if we weren't there.
I saw them at Durham Cathedral on the same tour (shown live on BBC2). The Coventry and Durham concerts formed the bulk of the Ricochet album. Was also in the USA for the recording of Encore
Pretty crazy seeing someone who I spent many years at their house (Peter) all over youtube. I was best friends with his son growing up. This is actually funny because he, Peter, never talked about his music once while in his presence whether it was at the dinner table or a car ride.
I was lucky (and am old enough ) to see Tangerine Dream at Liverpool Cathedral on the same tour . I also saw them at The Royal Court and Empire Theatre in Liverpool but nothing can compare with the Cathedral performance .

T, Dream's performance of Ricochet in Oxford in 1976 was one of the musical events of my life. I have truly never heard anything like it before or since. They were heard right the way through by a totally silent audience. As the last note at the end of the concert faded, again there were a few seconds silence before the place erupted into applause. An almost unbelievable experience that I'll never forget... Thanks for the share!

As much as I love TD and especially Ricochet, I think a live performace is rather silly. They just sit in front of the controls, and occasionally turn a knob or something. Their music is simply not made for live performances. At least not a that period of TD.
You really needed to be there I think. It's the whole environment and atmosphere of the music in the Cathedral, rather than just watching the musicians.
Oh yeah and I suppose a guitar player just plucks at a few strings! A TD concert is great becuase of the un-predictability. More akin to a Jazz performance.
I've seen them several times in concert and I never, ever felt disappointed. I've always enjoyed their performances. Another one of my faves, Kraftwerk, are notorious for never moving in concert yet their shows were sold our.
To add to the rest. Ricochet was recorded live. not everything was pre-recorded. Bear in mind that there were only 3 of them and that it was indeed 1976! Nobody else could have made that in a studio - let alone performed in front of an audience.

Yes, those images are taken from the Coventry Cathedral concert, but the audio cames from the Ricochet comercial release. There was a concert in which they played several music that was used to make Ricochet. It was in the Fairfield Hall, Croydon, London, at October 23th 1975. That bootleg (only audio) contains the original recording of "Ricochet part 2" and near of 30 minutes of additional music (comercially unpublished). Pure Gold !!

This music is nothing compared to the great masters--Beethoven, Mozart, even Leonard Bernstein; or even the motion picture scorers of today--Hans Zimmer, Mark Mancina, Howard Shore. They are the real musicians, not these pretentious creeps who would be nothing without their synthesizers.
You may need to do some research before making sweeping statements like that. You cannot compare Beethoven to Tangerine Dream - it goes without saying that they are complete opposite ends of the spectrum, in terms of genre.
The emotional and spiritual fulfilment I gain from listening to TD or Beethoven are the same .the only difference is in the method thier art is executed. Peter Baumann is classically trained on piano, Christ Franke was one of the most prominent Jazz Drummers during this era having also studied classical music and composition at the Berlin Conservatory. Edgar Froses is also a proficient guitarist. So your argument that they would be 'nothing without thier synthesizers' is totally null and void.
All three members of TD (at this time) had received some classical music training. Edgar had even thought about becoming a Pianist, before moving to the guitar. Chris Franke studied under Thomas Kessler, where he was learnt about Music Concrete at the 'Berlin Electronic Beat Studio', as well as taking lessons for Trumpet, piano and Violin, before moving to drums. Peter played organ in two bands before joining TD.
One could also argue that classical music is pretentious, being that is has tendencies to be bombastic and over-flourished - this is why progressive rock was slated, due to it's influence drawn from the great composers. It's all about the individuals perspective. If you do not appreciate this music, then that is your choice and no one can argue with that. I would suggest that you refrain from viewing such footage as this in the future, if it brings you so much displeasure.
My first LP by TD; I heard it on The Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC One - UK TV), introduced by John Peel - I was blown away! Years later, I saw Klaus Schultze at Coventry Cathedral with a massive thunder storm going on outside to add to the musical drama!
Peter Baumann looks very young in here, well, he's was it that time ... Anyway, the DVD is really great, but still not the real concert of that day ... Thanks for posting, cheers, Sven
I got this DVD and I was expecting a truly TD concert of 1975,but sadly is just the images of them playing (who would know what?)and inserted is the Ricochet Studio version directly added to the film.Sad and disappointing,'cause we the real fans were expecting the real stuff!
Suzuki-san: Yeah, I thought Franke's departure was a great loss. Probably can compare to Waters' split from Gilmour (PF).
Thing is, TD have gone through numerous personnel changes....It may have resulted in a few flubs (parts of Cyclone were pretty trying), but they kept trying and pushing the envelope, creatively.
If that isn't genius or integrity, I don't know what is....
For me, the best era was that of the early days, such as the one shown here. Long pieces of music that transported the listener to places and states of mind that only be reached through illegal means!
One of the best nearly-live (because it seems they have done some remixes on Ricochet) album of their Virgin -Branson period, nice images of that seventies period also, even if they are not exactely fitting to a real live concert, this more extracts and clips of that time, to give a touch of ambience of it.
If you can listen to the Album Ricochet, and if you like it, try Rubycon and Stratosfear
I don't see what the point of the DVD was. They're VERY, VERY obviously NOT performing the music you hear on the DVD!! It's basically a recording of one of their albums laid over top of a video of them playing some other song.

CharlesMa732 4 years ago

Chimera: This addresses what listening to music is all about: The embrace of the Divine and the chance to touch the Void....
(Ahem....Me so heavy sometimes....)

I would suggest that you refrain from viewing such footage as this in the future, if it brings you so much displeasure.

so you clicked on tangerine dream for what reason?

I bet similar comments were made about Beethoven when his music was first around!

My first LP by TD; I heard it on The Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC One - UK TV), introduced by John Peel - I was blown away! Years later, I saw Klaus Schultze at Coventry Cathedral with a massive thunder storm going on outside to add to the musical drama!

I had to listen the record now on headphones loudly.
The music on "Ricochet" Part2 is very powerfull,
with still some air to breath.
Ricochet, for me, was the climax of TD.
1973,1974,1975 their soundwork, dominated by moog sequences, for my taste, have been their best.
Then ,as already mentioned,things changed.

Thank you.
A picture is the best while it was uploaded in You-Tube until now.
I looked at this video 30 years ago.
This is one of the most favorite picture.
However, the original of this film was not available in Japan for about 15 years ago.
By my personal impression,
I am unsatisfied after Christopher Franke w
ithdrew TD. Yours sincerely

Thank you.
I think that I(we) can estimate a position for metaphysics as art of their long time very much.
There will be a difference which season of TD likes personally.
I liked TD very much before Chris leaving.

For me, the best era was that of the early days, such as the one shown here. Long pieces of music that transported the listener to places and states of mind that only be reached through illegal means!

I liked the age that they were psychedelic very much.
However, I think that there is one cause which changed music of one them.
Theme to operate seemed to be description of nature at first.
It came to express human nature gradually.
And a factor of one fluctuation in exchange rates is evolution of electronic musical instrument.
A human lets psycho gender develop when a tool does not develop.
As for the apparatus of an early analog, it took time very much.

However, I was not limited to them, and a lot of masterpiece of an electronic music(and Progressive rock) was born in 1970's to 1984.
I think so personally.
