The most amazing recording is Helge Rosvaenge's version. A voice with power & range. An almost impossible aria to sing. Mr Potgieter is a fine singer to even attempt it.
Schmidt's version is the most musically satisfying of all versions i have heard.Perhaps his gift puts him worlds apart from others.Thats just my opinion.However all these singers are gifted.Just different
He's a bit flat in some spots; his high notes are kept quite short, like he expects his voice to break if he holds it longer than a mere second. He's obviously playing it very safe. His High D lacks tone. Very disappointing, especially when compared with Gedda's versions (French and German).
