I'm not African American but I do have a head full of thick curls. It took me the first fourteen years of my life to realize the hair that I love my hair and what I have is beautiful, so I really like that Willow is helping other girls to embrace their pretty locks (:
I REALLY wish Sesame Street had a video like this when I was little. I would have been a lot more comfortable with myself. Thank you so much, Willow! :) <3
Being a black female i really appreciate this video. After being teased for years about curly hair im glad sesame street can give girls everyone a reason to be proud. BTW what idiots pushed dislike?!?
i like this video..and i agree with indeliblesoulsista....this is exactly what makes sesame street special.i grew up with this stuff..my son is 3 and watches this stuff...i think it sends a good message.
I love this video. Who cares if it's directly about black people's hair. Little girls have a hard time when it comes to doing their hair and cry and fuss so anything to make it easier is a Good thing. There is a big difference between singing about ones hair then their skin color or "White-ness" so Get Over Your Self !
@Jamaari20 That is total Bullshit and anyone who believes that is insane when not being able to connect the two. Im black and yes I do agree with the emotional connection but someone being of another ethnic group isn't allowed to celebrate his or her ethnic background seems all but unfair, if it were the other way around. My maybe Im embellishing with the whole White-ness crack but it can be a touchy subject which I think is best left up to the parents to explain. Ethnic studies shouldnt be
@Jamaari20 Sooooo.......what? Your not telling me anything that I don't already know....I'm a Minority, hello lol. Dont kill the messenger. Based on current events and just the plain stupidity of some people, I just wanna note that this can go both ways and I hope that the reactions are the same. No need to write an essay. I like the message that it sends and what it promotes but Id rather teach and instill those qualities in my kid, then let an outside source dictate what my child will become.
@Jamaari20 ex: The Arizona ethnic studies law. There's a lot of back and forth between factions and that alone concerns me. You gotta remember that a child is a blank canvas and you have to pick and choose what you decide to paint...ultimately. lol here I am writing an essay. I feel that if you instill that in child, especially while young and knowing that they can misinterpret the meaning the results wont be that favorable. Id rather let them enjoy their youths a while longer. That why we have
I'm on the fence on this one. I don't know whether to punch someone (Sesame Street) in the face or smile at this vid. I mean cmon who could not laugh at sesame street? But this promotes "ethnic studies." Its very low key but Id rather my child not see color....at all.
How about Sesame street promoting a dance theme about White Ethnic pride ? Let me guess that would be racist, but its ok for Black people to be proud of being black. I see.
For many adults on this forum this is for children, from ages 3 to 13,usually before they get perms, and have braids. Also this can extend to many young girls who have curly hair. Why make it so personal? And why say you prefer blondes?Do you tell this to a 5 year old?You show her a picture of a blonde child and say"I prefer this than you"?Thats bad parenting and racist!!!!!
she says she doesnt have to go to a beauty shop because her hair is beautiful the way it is..BUT THEN she has rows, extensions, perms.... I think this is teaching hypocricy!!
@swordofisis What it's teaching is obvious. That African American women should be proud to wear their hair anyway they please and not worry about what American society on average considers is attractive like soft straight hair of white people.
That said, I'm white and I definitely prefer women with I guess what we can call white peoples hair. (long , straight, soft).
@swordofisis Man, why did you have to bust her out like that? XDD This comment is funny, though. Oh well, I love my hair...but I do need to get this mess done lol
@swordofisis she also wears her hair in every way EXCEPT straight. Yet nearly black woman in the US has their hair done to be straight. Odd huh. And as far as Afros go...I think I have seen one black person with that in the last 10 years. Reality is just that straight hair is seen by most men as better looking, even black men..
I'll never know why people think cornrolls look good. They're quite ugly

I wish Sesame Street had this when I was little.
I bet alot of Black and other ethnic people, including white people who has some curly poofs on their head would love to see this.
Luckily as a young girl I loved my HUGE head of hair, and I never shoved a chemical in it. Its still there, all natural. And it got more HUGE XD
