@MachineintheSky All great films "borrow" something from earlier masterpieces. It is a known fact, and that's what they teach in film schools. I also saw a lot of Tarkovsky in the Banishment, especially in the nature scenes, i.e. the forest, and the rain at the end, with the streams of water flowing beneath the house... But nonetheless, it is a great film. I am so proud of our Russian film directors and actors. They are still trying to make people THINK and FEEL.......
@HelenaVanCity Yes, it is a good film, I never said it wasn't. And of course, the Russian culture is amazing and very rich.
There's nothing wrong with "borrowing" but it shouldn't become the main point of the film. The thing is, all great directors have created their own world in their films, think about Tarkovski, Antonioni, Bunuel. You can recognize their universe and their style from the first minutes...Whereas in the Banishment, I didn't see this director's world. I only saw Tarkovski.
OK, I'll watch this. Hypnotic, like a maudlin, arthouse version of when you first play GTAIV; just wandering the city, trying to provoke emotions in disparate places. It's eerie; no one is getting murdered, there's no raised voices. Whatever horror they've been though, whatever strangulated emotions they have, they just need to lose their memories like in that Next Generation episode, and they'd all be living in a beautiful, ambient heaven. Wait a minute, this is the Drive Angry trailer, right?
I loved The Return and I have watched it many times. It is truly beautiful film. I have not yet seen The Banishment but I will be adding it to my Net Flicks tonight, no question!
This is the best film I ever saw! ...with a few words, and a lot of deep emotions. It's a film from the man, the fate, and from the spirit. An abysmal drama, never seen like before.
I watched this with my wife (she is Russian by the way) and this movie sucks so bad.. we both HATED it to high heaven. Worse waste of time I have ever had wathcing a freaking movie. Absolute TRASH except for the scenery. 2/10.
I'd rather have watched paint peel. Wife hated it too.
What freaking drama? Retarded piece of garbage imho.

You wish.
Wet dream and finger in anus... that sounds like work of art to me. You the type of person that likes to spend time in those russian bathrooms with men squatted over holes so you can smell other people's poop all day. THAT'S art. I have been to Germany, St. Petersburgh Russia, Moscow, France, Hawaii (ETC) PERFORMING. I have experienced things only YOU would experience in a wet dream. See my videos.
It's a bit rich to call what you do in the videos "PERFORMING" and use them to justify comments on a genuine piece of art.
Also, your comments here hardly endorse any claim that you might have to comment on other people's use of English. In any case, could YOU contribute to this site in a language other than English?
By the way, how does the fact that your wife is Russian (did you get her from a catalogue?) make your comments pertinent?
Not that it's any business of yours, but I met my wife in a club while I was "performing". Those performances paid for my 4500 square foot house. Maybe if you Europeans were doing your jobs, those women wouldn't be offering themselves in catalogs. I'll leave the cleverness to you. I'll continue to comment on what i want when i want and it only makes it all the more enjoyable to get under people's skin like yourself. Thanks for the laugh!
Gracious, you're a bit defensive, aren't you? "I didn't get my wife from a catalogue" (sorry - I forgot you're a retard - 'catalog'),"I am so a performer!", "I've got a big house" - and you talk getting under MY skin?! (Better check your grammar by the way, even I can see that 'get under people's skin like yourself' is bollocks). So, no, really, the pleasure is all mine - I should be thanking you for the entertainment.
But baiting you is like shooting fish in a barrel; I'm bored now. Adieu!
Well, of course I am defensive when i get attacked. I am sorry, i must have missed the You Tube rules that stated you couldn't express an opinion that differs from others. I say i don't like a movie. I never attack those who DO like it. I haven't ever attacked someone for not liking something I liked. Course, that's typical of your kind I suppose.
And your kind would never say such a thing to me in person. . . unless they had a problem with having a full head of teeth.
I love actor Konstantin Lavronenko! I loved him especially in "The Return", so I can't wait to see him in this film since everyone is saying it's a masterpiece.
just art. i love Andrei. and i think he made a new movie. must watch.

Abortion. The film is about how Christ was not born. Film on all life.

I loved the cinematography on this one, it was amazing. And it definetly had great moments.
But overall, I didn't really like it. I thought it was trying to be too much like Tarkovsky's films.

You are one heavily disturbed hillbilly poop, who actualy understands only two thing in your life...
Burger-King and Hollywood !
You don`t even understand what the word: WORK of A R T means...and you just simply do don`t understand the life beyond your redneck States !
You have a Russian wife yes.... but only in your wet dream and with your finger in your anus !

Thanks for the laugh. Your broken English and attempt at cursing is laughably classic.
I wish you were standing here saying it so i could hear it with the accent and laugh in your face.
The movie sucked. My personal opinion. Don't like it? Tough kakat'.
