@BuckFastZombie 8800GT's traditionally had 96 cores back in the day, but really had 112 shader processing units that the 8800GTS SSC's had. same die, just disabled by default. cheaper to produce the same exact die, and disable enable features based on need, instead of making multiple types.. same thing AMD does with the phenom II line, X2's are really X4's with failed 3rd and 4th cores.
Just google Nvidia Bios Editor, warning though.. you screw up your card is permanently screwed forever.
@ganymedeIV4 and if you screw up the bios, that card is done and there is absolutely nothing you can do to fix it. Just made yourself a 250$ paper weight.
I wouldn't recommend toying with it unless its a card you dont care about, or you know EXACTLY what your doing.
@ganymedeIV4 Hmm! I've just gone to settings after I installed the latest drivers and guess what: multi-display performance mode was enabled by default and I only have 1 monitor! HEHE Anyway this is usefull for any nvidia card not just the 8800GT I believe! I just tested with the 8800 and I get a slightly bigger 3dMark score.
and if ur running vista, always add another gig of ram than u would on xp, and yeah get better power supply, that really weak for that system,XP all the way, vista sucks COCK
i've tried this already on my fx 5200 and in quake 3 arena, the framerate increased from 50 to 140!!!...i know its an old game but its the best to test my card with.....nice that you've made a video about this(WORKED FOR ME ALREADY).

Why not just unlock the extra Cores on that 8800GT and not even bother with Nvidia profiles.
Cards settings default to single display mode if you only have 1 monitor connected btw.

WHOAH! Unlock extra cores? What is that, and how does it work?

i have 2GB ram
intel core 2 duo E2200 2.20GHz
nvidia 8800gt 512mb
300W power supply
No smooth in games! and anti aliasing not working! why ??
sam999333 3 years ago
Thats because the 8800gt needs at least 450W power to run at full strength. You should change your PSU and everything will be alright.

This only improves performance with older games that don't use more then 1 core. It will however decrease performance on games that use more then 1.
