What a crime that Fred Melamed wasn't nominated for an Oscar. William Hurt was nominated for an Oscar for an even shorter performance than this (and rightly so, for "A history of violence").
Fred Malamed was great, great, great in that movie. I love the way he completely muscles Larry out of his marriage and his house.
And I like that he brings up the pool, since when we do see it, later in the movie, it is bone dry and looks like it hasn't had water in it for years.
Sy Ableman, an unctuous silver-tongued widower who inflicts mandatory hugs on those he screws over. His sanctimonious, noxiously sappy attitude is overbearing.
