  • Given this was uploaded in 2006, before the financial crises, it is very foresighted!

  • why a Japanese commercial and an ending in English 0.o

  • lmaooo!! Who is this guy?? he makes me think of a mix between Akanishi and Oguri...lmao

  • @virinder07 He is Goro Inagaki.

  • One of worst in "japanese commercials"-category. Grr, This has a story that one can actually UNDERSTAND... wtf (must be due to the rotten western influence)

  • 0:37 ''hai'' doesnt mean ''no'' bad subtitles?

  • I'm Japanese.

    The Sub is correct.

For the negative question sentence like "You haven't read newspaper, huh?" ,

in English "NO" is used for "not reading" ,

but in Japanese language "hai (Yes)" is used to mean "yes, what you say is correct"

So I sometimes mistake reading English including negative questions.

  • @vtFlakman

    Hmm, I see.

It's the same thing in Norwegian :D

  • @vtFlakman AHHH! Thank you so much for that!

    I was on Skype with my Japanese friend, and i asked a question and his reply was;

"Yes...no...no...no yes no. yes! hahaha...no" i didn't understand why he did that, until now!.Thank you.

  • @vtFlakman Literally, it's wrong.

  • Aww poor boy..

  • read newspaper , to rob a bank -- what the hell !!!!

  • finally, a japanese commercial that actually makes sense

  • YOMIURI SHINBUN is the best.

  • That was very kawaii!

    I miss Japan!

  • @amourdutigre How was that cute??...you sound like a Dir en Grey fangirl..-_-

  • @Jonathanowns

I guess Kawaii is in the eye of the beholder, and I think this commercial is kawaii.

  • @Jonathanowns ...what does cute have anything to do with Dir en Grey? O_o

  • He said "Yes" and the end, "Hai" not 'no' because no is "iie"

  • @Animedrawngirl

Yes he said "yes". But answering "yes" to a nagative interrogative means "no" in Japanese.

  • REACT

    Pen is position opinion (RANK)

  • All that work for nothing hahha

  • LMFAO.

  • Hilarious commercial, 5'd and faved.

  • Nooo. You poor boy...

  • lol a japanese commercial that actually makes sense! There's a first for everything! :P

  • Perfect commercial for the recession. XD

  • Crook was like, "WTF?"

  • LOL

  • well thats a kickass commercial

  • ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh no! poor guy. :(

  • what... the... heck??

    hahahahaha. that was so weird!

  • lol. oh and the last thing he said, "hai." It's suppose to mean yes. not no. No is iie. . . .

  • also is afirmation that means he didnt read the newspaper

  • Oh, okay then.

  • No, Hai in this sentence answers a negative question negatively

Yes, I didn't read the newspaper doesn't work well in English so the translator just put "No"

  • Well, except that they asked him "You haven't read a newspaper?" So by saying "hai", he was agreeing with the statement, that he hadn't read it, so it can also work as "no, I haven't" in this case.

I know what you mean though. :3

  • Whoops, I didn't see that someone had already explained that, sorry. lol XD

  • This translation is correct.

In Japanese, answering "yes" to negation interrogative means "no".

  • Oh. that's a way better explanation than the other one a person gave me. Arigatou! =]

  • Goro!!

  • 'sulted! lol

  • LoL

  • that's a nice one~

  • LOL

  • Lol! The economic crisis leaked into the ads!

  • Lol its just like

  • Incidentally, Asahi is the newspaper which is notoriety for a forgery..

  • you mean ironically

  • LOL this is a good commercial!

  • neihh... hahahaha GR8888 haha

  • lol unlucks.

  • just so random...

  • I know that guy from somewhere O>O

  • omg that's brilliant!

  • LoL, that reminds me of the time i snuck into my girlfriends house and hid in her bed just to find out she moved... That guy wasnt happy to find me there.

  • lol. Sounds like fun.

  • How did you not know your girlfriend moved is a question not even the gods of the sacred realm or a incredibly fast computer can answer.

  • haï doesn't mean no, bad traduction

  • It's opposite in Japan. If that was in English you would reply "No" as in No I haven't read it, but in Japan you say Hai (Yes) sort of like agreeing with the previous statement.

  • for better clarification, question that was asked was asked in a negative way. thus he responded with yes. if he said no, then that would mean that he did not not read the news thus meaning that he did. This is a common mistake in english but even still, people always know what you really mean.

  • That means: 'Yes, I didn't read the newspaper today'.

    In conclusion, 'NO'.

  • ....................

  • That must suck!

    xD

  • AHAHA!

  • THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY LOL

However, you must never read content of an asahi newspaper because only a lie and nonsense are carried.

  • looks like you know about it, it's like my country news paper then.
