  • This reminds me of some job interviews I've had to sit through.

  • i've been watching cavett since the early 70's, his interview "style", tends to be be very "laid back", i.e. ,ask questions, but let the guest(s) be the star of the show, as with ABBA here. Cavett sits back , and lets his guests be as comfortable as possible, esp. being on "american tv". as abba were .

  • I love how she says short! <3

  • lol i love how agnetha has to ask how to say laces. she's sooo fucking cutee<3

  • Its a total mystery to me why Dick Cavett had such a big success with his show. Its so unconfortable to watch him. He seems so unconfortable himself. Its probably becayse tv has changed so much since then.

  • They are, and always will be, amazing. But you can tell at this point they were just so fed up of it all. Can't say I really blame them after 10 years!

  • Dry wit Dick.

  • I love them!<3

  • ABBA 4EVER!

  • With... Spetsar... hahahahahaha xD

  • @Liiinnea hahahhahahah

  • What the hell is Björn wearing? looks like a discarded costume from Star Wars

  • @Rebphoenix it IS a discarded costume from Flash Gordon actually

  • Dick Cavett was brilliant. No one touches him as an interviewer today.

  • I'd score this interview 10 out of 10. Obviously, Dick Cavette's questions are exactly those which fans want to hear and ABBA meets them head on with thoughtful responses. While tasteful, the jabs are huge fun and they show off ABBA's good nature. They were a super group all the way around.

  • This guy is high.

  • What year was this interview conducted ? Cavett sounds like a bloody intelligent guy- Harvard or Yale ?

  • @doloresmo, that is so true...

  • fantastic interview, fantastic!

  • 0.31 Benny looked so sad when he said that

  • dick cavett talking to frida about "where are your jazz roots, have you ever been to new orleans" sarcastically shows what a narrowminded guy cavett is, he believes really that the blues and roots of culture must be experienced in america - and "sweden" seems to be pretty "foreign" to his---

sweden fought big wars long before america was part of the maps!!!

  • @MoveOverCasanova uhhhh, jazz is an American creation

born out of New Orleans then moved to chicago and new york.

  • @raidergunz if this explanation makes you happy, so it shall be --- sure is, new orleans style music was created in new orleans, the categorizing i leave to others

  • @royko22 Interesting take on a pop interview and some of it true, I completely agree that it is very patronising for millionaires to attempt to practice socialism as they can't... they're milionaires. Your use of the term "evil", however, is oppression in it's highest and ugliest form

  • On a fashion-related note, what is Bjorn wearing???!

  • Gee what a lively group.

  • on a superficial note, these girls r beautiful

  • @AORMETALGORE I heartily agree on their beauty, but I take issue with your use of the word "superficial."

They are both hard working professionals with a lot of class, better behaved than just about anyone with their

level of celebrity. So I maintain that their beauty is not superficial, but indicative of their character.

  • @maor1810 well it isn't their first language after all.. how is your Swedish?

  • boney-M isn't really German ???? Fucking hell, I'm going to kill myself !!!

  • lol

  • when listening to dick cavett, I get the feeling of an accident just waiting to happen

  • Haha, that's so true. I dont know why that is... he seems nervous somehow

  • Dick is manic depressive bi-polar afflicted..join the club

  • Dick. What a dick!!

  • i am in love with her blouse!

  • this interviewer has this typical attitude some americans have whom i met - they feel superior on such a superficial level. Ignorance and arrogance make a nasty cocktail, as the group´s reaction makes quite clear!!

  • jealous? no way, more concerned about matters more important, just like abba seem to be.

  • @The3rdHiltonSister Wow I am so jealous of your charm and your way with words! But what can we expect from someone who worships low life useless whores like the hiltons? I'm sure they are all quite used to licking stuff up.

  • AGNETHA IS A COOL WOMAN!

  • So, this interview reveals why they hate touring, the secluded feeling and wearisome work of it all...

  • This Dick Cavett is no good moderator...He's sooooo slowly in asking questions and nearly everything he's doing ;-)

  • AGNETHA is perfect!

  • Interesting how Agnetha still turns to Bjorn (at the far end) for the correct English word (4:14), with Benny right next to her, who seems to be equally proficient in the language and who in fact also answers her question.

  • audio too low thanks

  • Aaahhh... The time when aretists were actually talented!

  • I think this was they're unhappiest year (81). Escpecially for Frida. She looks SO sad singing Knowing Me Knowing You here. And they really don't interact with each other anymore. D. Cavett makes them laugh but really they don't have fun together anymore. They looked more comfortable/happy a year later. Guess the worst was over after the latest divorce then. But they were very civilized and friendly. ABBA made genius pop music and they are still BIG 28 years later.

  • i luv bjorn and frida!

i wish frida would talk more, agnetha talks quite a bit and the boys talk alot. lol. but frida doesnt reli seem 2.

    ABBA RULES!!!!

  • Well....some of the celbrities from back then sure as hell weren't refined or civilized either.

  • i think sick cavett is really good unlike uk chat show hosts who fawn over guests

  • I think you mean Dick Cavett, but good point. :)

  • i like dick cavett.hes not like british chat show hosts who fawn over thier guests

  • I think Benny and Bjorn are so funny! Love the part about the boots and the ending. I like Dick Cavett and this interview is pretty good.

  • well I actually enjoy the interview, I know it coulb be waaay better but at least they were having a good time, although Frida didn't talk to much but still her accent is cute. hey when Agnetha was saying that about her knickers and said but I was 5 so Im excused, did Bjorn said "you'll be excused now too?(3:23), intersting hehe, love the way she laughs and tells the story, her accent is so cute too...what can I say ABBA is just great!

  • I don't thnk this interview is as bad as everybody says

  • Bjorn's English is perfect. And he speaks it with a British accent! That's cool!

  • YEah Bjorn has always been particularly Anglicised. He ended up living in Britain full time (for a few years) after ABBA split.

  • Cavett was often rather bumbling and lost in his interviews. But let's give credit where due: he got Agnetha to tell her knickers story and gave her the time to tell it charmingly.

  • Cavett is a pretty cool dude, though a little smarmy or insecure on occassion - imperfect like the rest of us. He at least brings a lot more wit and intelligence to the table than your average. It's cute when Agnetha asks how to say "laces" in English.

  • This is a great interview! Björn and Benny seems to be pretty sure about the language, but Frida and Angneta,, I don't know. :)

    Great Swedish band!

  • Agneta is just a big artist!what a voice)mmmm)

  • I love the way Agnetha's talking It's sounds so happy!

  • "they haven't got my face" I love Benny!

  • I really like Dick Cavett and think that he's usually a very interesting interviewer. This interview isn't his best one, but he suffers from manic depressive disorder and it's possible that during that interview he could've been off, comically and professionally, due to his disorder.

  • Wow, what an inept talk show host.

  • whoa, "toiler paper" was a no-no? Times have most definitely changed about what is and isn't censored on television.

  • can you say "stuff" on television?? o man, times have definitely changed haven't they?

  • It is actually painful to watch Dick Cavett interview anyone. I would have loved to see Johnny Carson interview these fabulous people who gave us such great and unforgettable music.

  • I agree it isi painful to watch. Very disappointing.

  • I felt entirely uncomfortable watching this. Then Agnetha smiles and the pain eases.

  • Dick Cavett really knew how to put the DICK in the Dick Cavett show. He was so offensive to his guests, ABBA especially-how many times did he get down on them- the last line was 'pointing to me with one of your chins'... he sounds like he's drunk.

most of the talk shows at that time had really worthless creepy hosts-Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, the DICK, Tom Snyder who had so many outrageous guests on his late night NYC show-who took great pride in 'never knowing anything about his guests'

  • Merv Griffin was an awesome and endearing host - I loved his show. I do agree about Mike Douglas and Tom Snyder, tho....

  • Dick Cavett is soooo anoying

  • twat would be more accurate

  • I love the story of Agnetha and her laughing at the and!:-)

  • They were hugely successful everywhere except in the United States. They still selling millions of records today.

  • They were also very successful in the States with Dancing Queen as a number one hit. Trust me, the 370 million records sold were not in the UK and Sweden.

  • Wow....I'm really unimpressed with Dick Cavett.....a really poor interview for tv....thanks for posting this, I love seeing anything with ABBA talking

  • I think they did very well, Agnetha is happy then too.

This man underestimated the intelligence of the Abba band members, they are all very, very bright. And Benny and Bjorn are musicians of genius level. Benny makes a very relevent point about them being grown ups not acting like children, like stars then and now.

  • can you say "stuff" on TV? Only a idiot american host could fucking ask that. Cretinous idiots.

  • I agree, as if "stuff" was a swear word back in 1981!

    DickHEAD Cavett all the way!

  • Can you show sarcasm on youtube? Sheesh.

  • they seem very shy ^^ hehe. But they are great! :)

  • is interesting that woman talk so few...

  • What do you expect from a guy from NEBRASKA. Gosh when you think of the United States, how many times do you think of Nebraska? I think Nevada,Texas, California, New York, Florida, Louisiana, Virgina,ect... but Nebraska? Yeah and Dickh*ead Cavett is a prime example.

  • Hey, I think everyone here is forgetting that this Late Night talk show was taped in 80?-81?. Back then the talk show wasn't so damn hyper and focused on being funny funny funny. Listen to the audience, they're polite and listening quietly. ABBA is being asked questions on the fly, the interview wasn't pre-planned like the shows of today do now. It's all very real. I think this type of interview footage is fascinating. I was just a little kid when it aired originally.

  • It's the Dork Cavett Show everybody...

  • The word "stuff" was considered vulgar back then? Gosh, this interview is boring, but I will continue for the sake of ABBA.

  • spetsar? haha laces, she's so sweet!

  • Cavett is a horrible interviewer interviewing the best band ever.

  • Oh dear, how uncomfortable they look. Love Abba but not this 'interview'.

  • Dick Cavett = BORING

    This guy sucks.

  • I could watch this if I didn't have to listen to Dick Cavett. He can't get a whole sentence out without changing his mind 3 times. How ironic; the worst interviewing the best. And he's insulting by knowing so little about them: "Didn't one of you sing as a teenager?" They were all teenage stars.

  • Brilliant! I haven't seen this since 1981!!!! Agnetha is very open.

  • What a terrible interview

  • well, first of all they were excellent musicians and not entertainers and that's why they look slightly uncomfortable... and at this point they were already tired of being abba.

  • good interview. bad times. good songwritten times though separated now all look really fed up and uncomfortable
