I went thru 5 kindles because of the buttons fading out on me! 4 grays and one white. Amazon was great at refunding and exchanging when i needed it..but im looking into the nook now. Still cant decide if its for me though! Thanks for the video!
Were you a little bit excited to open that thing ? You had that thing busted out in like 8 seconds haha . It's always exciting when you get new stuff in the mail and waiting till it arrives :) good video , cool toy
I have read but can not confirm that you can only load amazon.com books on the Kindle? I'd like to know for sure if I can load my LIBRARY's (or other online free books) onto the KINDLE.
@greymacaw You can load non-Amazon books on a Kindle, as long as they do not have Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection. For example, you can buy DRM-free books at a site like Fictionwise in .mobi format which the Kindle can read. Or you can download scads of free books from Project Gutenberg to your computer and sideload them to your Kindle for reading. For books in ePub format, you can use the free program Calibre to convert DRM-free books to .mobi so they are readable on Kindle.
the nook is way better. it is touchscreen, fast, smaller, portable, lightweight, lots of e-book selection, easier to read with, looks just like paper, and has PDF. You can take notes as well and highlight. There are music, games, and 1.3 version is great.!!! GET THE NOOK... NOW!!! Its awesome!
@newsboysrock11 It's no contest, IMHO. The Kindle is lighter, has better user controls, bigger e-books selection, more powerful highlights/notes, unique sharing features in new 2.5 software, and innovative support for indie authors.
@LenEdgerly I just got the nook, and I believe it's exceptionally wonderful! But, I did get it after one of the best updates it has had so far, the 1.5, which has increased the page turning by a lot. I could have had a different opinion last December, a few months after it first came out. But the sleekness of the nook has definitely made it great. Also, Black Friday deals were awesome, with the Nook wifi for only $99 at Best Buy! So worth it!
so what do you think about the nook now - i'm in the UK and don't think we can get it over here but i'm still interested to her your opinion. i was waiting to see how the iPad would work as an eReader but i think a dedicated eReader would be best so now.... sony or kindle (or nook if i can buy the books over here!)???
I hardly ever use the nook now, except when I force myself to learn a little more of its interface. It's too heavy, for one thing, compared with the Kindle. And it's slow and every command is a frustrating bit of uncertainty - will it work this time or will I have to press twice? Disappointing so far. Size really matters with these devices, I'm discovering.
I am a real apple fangirl (as my youtube channel shows!!) so maybe I like the look of the nook because its similar to apple!!! The kindle just looks so old fashioned and the k2 looks huge for just the little reading screen!
Now i really don't know which way to go!!
Thanks for the reply (can't wait till you try a sony! hint hint !!!)
@LenEdgerly Weight is an issue that I have tried to explain to iPad owners who laud it as a great ebook reader. I think they are all enamored by the software and are not avid readers. I had looked at the Kindle and Nook - both I thought were too heavy and the technology wasn't good enough. So I picked up a Sony reader which was considerably lighter. But I returned it within a week b/c the contrast wasn't good enough. When ebook readers start using OLED displays, we'll see a mark improvement.
@LenEdgerly I have a sony reader and like it, but I hear the kindle is faster and you can download via wireless so that along with the text to speech feature which reads aloud to you are key features the sony doesn't have. I am looking to give my daughter my sony and looking at a kindle 2.
@bunnydrumming I think the iPad is too heavy for any avid reader. See my post below. I think you are correct that a dedicated eReader is a better form-factor for readers b/c it will be less distracting with all those bells & whistles you would find on the iPad. I have asked several iPad vloggers to describe the reading experience beyond the glamour of it's software. To date - none have replied.
@acenspades Even though our country is one of the most obese, with some low IQs. If you want to brag about America, our weapons, or our science, actually relize how it works you ignorant fool.
for anyone who has doubt of the nook because he said u have to register it, honestly it took me 2 seconds to register, u need just an email address and create a password on B&N's website and make sure u put in a default credit card number so u can purchase books and also they have the new feature of gift cards so u can set that up to it says NEW in red ink so u cant really miss it, then once thats done u go back to ur nook put the email address and password and youre all set to go and buy books.
lmao he thought the case was the nook hahaha thats funny, i was like hey mine didnt come like that, mine came in a fricken huge nice ipod looking case contraption that was fricken difficult to get open lol
what no one seems to get about the nook is that it has the ability to do more in the future. the fact that it runs on android makes it possible for apps to be run on it in future software updates the same way the iphone does. its all in time.
Why the nook? I'm of course partial to the Kindle, having hosted The Kindle Chronicles podcast for more than a year. But I was curious about this new competition, and I've had fun trying it out. So far, I've found the nook is fun to play with - with its new features such as lending and ability to borrow books from libraries with Adobe Digital Editions and Overdrive - but for reading, the Kindle still rules. MUCH better interface for dictionary, highlights and notes, and MUCH more stable .
if all you want to do is read a book then go to the library, you are saying the nook is better because it can't do anything but function as a book reader? that makes no sense
Because everyone lives close to a library. I'm not saying the nook is better. I like the nook because it doesn't have all of those unnecessary things that I will not use. I don't want a mechanical voice reading books to me. I'll get audio books for that. I don't need to check my email or surf the web. I have a lap top for that. I don't care about emailing myself documents. The nook is fine for me.
@jedionline do some research. With the new kindle, you can lend books, you can't upgrade storage (3500 bokks is more than enough for me tho) the battery lasts a friggin month, you have always been able to try a book before buying it (since the first gen kindle came out on '07) and touch screen is not needed, just a little perk to get customers to buy. It slows the machine down, and reduces battery life
