Hey amjayes, do you happen to have an onboard of Colin McRae from SS18 of the 1997 Tour De Corse? That stage has to be his best stage ever, but I've never seen an onboard of it more than a few seconds long....
I will forever be in debt if you have it and upload it please! =)
Watching this one after watching Tommi's video is quite interesting, the car setup is totally different and the driving style obviously. Colin's car is totally loose, the front just goes everywhere he points and the rear helps the car turn while Tommi's rear is much more planted. Gotta admit this one is alot less boring! :P
@bornelaspt That is I think because youá watched his onboard with the Impreza and not the Lancer, is that right? :) Impreza was not so loose since McRae left to Ford, whilst Tommi´s Mitsubishi was also quite loose and he was driving it spectacularly too.
This however is great - Colin, tarmac and that sound of the Focus
@WisdomeSage1989 Indeed Petter's onboard looks more "timid". Colin's style is more aggressive. This looks more spectacular because of the shooting angle. Here you have much less visibility, mostly because of that hood from the windscreen. You may have the impression that the driver can see just the same thing as the camera can see. But he can see a little bit more. Petter's camera is positioned on the roof and the viewers can see in front of the car as good as driver can do.
@cosminjur +1 you don't see petter counter streering except when negotiating hairpins - I like that he is careful - I want him to win (or someone to beat loeb!)
Drivers mark corners for severity (from a flat out corner to a hairpin) using a scale that best fits their driving. Let's say "4" means a 45 degree angled and "3" means a 70 degree angled corner. Plus and minus can be used to describe a corner that is in between these numerical scales; minus for tightens and plus for opens (hence a 55 degree corner would then be 4- and a 40 degree corner a 4+).
When approaching a crest or a jump plus and minus can be simply used to control speed.
@Lyricoholic "Plus" means with your foot on the throttle, "minus" means with your foot off of the throttle. "Tightens" means that the corner gets sharper, "Opens" means that the corner becomes wider.
For example "4 left minus tightens" means that the angle of the corner overall is steeper than a "4" and that it even tightens before corner exit. "Opens" is obviously vice versa allowing the driver to get on the throttle earlier. Tightens and opens can also be used when the width of the road changes but if the change is significant then a "caution" may be added. Remember that pacenotes are extremely personal and can vary greatly between drivers.
I Want See Tarmac King Gilles Panizzi on board in this stage !!!!!

also says "plus" and "minus" the same as when he says " 4 left tightens" or "3 right opens"?
