RIP Sgt Wood. I am about his age, and served during Operation Desert Storm. I was also in the medical field, serving as a Registered Nurse with my MO ANG unit. I retired after 20 years service in May 1996. I know it is 5 years after the fact, but my condolences to the family and thanks to Sgt Wood for his service and his sacrifice. I remember standing on that exact same runway... i could tell that it wasn't just a normal runway, it had energy surging through it, from memorials of fallen soldiers to the lives of those borne across it's steel plates, to servicemembers going home on leave, fresh in country, or just heading out on some R&R.

Not just a concrete slab.

Something as simple as a runway, holds large significance among those who've been there.
