  • @PianoMatn It's Number Pad notation. It's really useful for decribing combo heavy games like Marvel. Imagine a Numpad:

    456

    123

    They represent the position of the joystick, and the buttons are labeled ABCS (or LMHS) in marvel. So, 236C mean Quarter Circle forward C. the xN part just means that you repeat that part indefinitely.

    You can check sites like Dustloop.com or Shoyuken.com for more information on fighting game notation.

  • @PianoMatn Well, you do have to be in Mad Beast mode. Also, the timing is a little strict. Your not actually canceling 236C into 236C, your technically canceling it into a dash and then the dash into the 236C. What this means to you is input the 236C AFTER you hit the opponent, if you try to do it earlier (like you would with a normal cancel) it won't come out.

    The chip loops does take a bit of practice to get down pat, so keep at it.

  • This is some really great stuff and has inspired me to pick up Jill, actually I just bought the DLC today, so I'm short 5 bucks because of your vid dude! :P

    With that said, is it possible for you to put the notation of the opening combo in the description please? The fact that it has two of my main characters (Dante and Viper) makes me want to learn it asap.

  • It is because of videos like this that I am very sad vanilla MvC3's life is ending so early. Ultimate is going to be a great game, but it's a shame to think of how much untapped tech there is in this game. Keep up the great work; you've officially got me interested in Jill again.

  • @DrakoShadows People are acting like Ultimate is a totally new game. It isn't. It's still gonna have a lot of the undiscovered tech still there. I doubt Jill is changing much in Ultimate cus there isnt much in vanilla thats been discovered that people have complained about for Capcom to change. So please dont be sad. If anything be excited for Ultimate cus theres gonna be whats there in vanilla, fixed, PLUS 12 new characters to be discovered. Dont be sad my friend, be happy for more mvc3.

    Everything in the vid should work in Ultimate.

  • @TheCommandoNando Well what I mostly mean is that, given time, a lot of the perceived problems of the game (Dark Phoenix for example) would have sorted themselves out as new tech emerged over the years. Trust me when I say that I'm REALLY hyped for Ultimate (I finally get Strider and Vergil), but I hate seeing all the untapped potential in MvC3.0 go to waste.

  • @elevate07 i dont think it rivals his cuz he pretty much set the blue print on how to use jill like movement cross ups cross over counters and that long advanced jump loop. so now we have to take what he showed us and at our touch to it. jhvidst2 did just. that jump loop is so hard next to impossible to do on line due to input lag

  • @Imozart0341I It's funny you should mention lag, With my recorder hooked up and Xbox setting toggled, I've had to do this with significant input lag. But I hear yah, online is awful.

    The big trick in the jump loops is to leave as much of a gap between the jH and jS as possible. It might help you a bit online, but MvC3 online is pretty bad...

  • Can you not pushblock the mad best chip setup? I seriously doubt it remains a true blockstring after pushblock.

  • @JohnQueerTheCyr Like I said in the vid, the only way out is to do a perfect Pushblock (meaning on the first few frames), into a reversal (or CC or XF guard cancel). With Xfactor it is a true blockstring, but you can still pushblock to negate the damage forcing the Jill player to maintain a very specific cadence.

  • Thanks for this I have been playing Jill a lot lately with Wesker and Sentinel (drones just like with any offensive character who needs a way in works great) and I love learning new things with underused characters.

  • This is one of the best jill videos out there. Please make another one, preferably for executing combos. I just bought jill and I have a hard time grasping what exactly her combos are. Even just an explanation of WHAT to combo with would be great!

  • @articanus Check SRK for combo's, I don't really like doing big combo vids, because combo's really mostly boil down to practice, practice, practice.

    I do however have some leftovers from this vid. I cut out the less impressive stuff. I might make a follow up with smaller little tricks, as opposed to big flashy resets and combo's.

  • @Inuyasha47 Yeah, but Jill can't do anything particularly special with them, but they are still good overall assists for any character (especially the arrows), so you can't really go wrong there. I think the OTG is the biggest thing you need for Jill. Since THC's tend to be really inefficient.

  • I LEARNED a lot from pulsr's page i never i never thought about giving deadpool the otg assits. i learned how to control the lvl 3 from he and options to get in and damaging combos and now you showed me shes even deadlier. time to go rank up

  • @Imozart0341I I borrowed alot of strategy from Pulsr, he's a ver good player.

    Just a warning, Deadpool's OTG assist causes a ground bounce, so you'll have o adjust accordingly. You could do, OTG>22S~B>22S~6~623B to setup the Wesker reset, but you lose the raw tag options with Deapool. Unless you wanna burn meter for the THC's.

  • I have been using Jill as well and I was wondering if she is better with a beam assist backing her up because I also use an OTG assist to help her but since your Jill tutorial shows you not using Doom's beam assist I was wondering does she even need it.

  • @Inuyasha47 I like doom rocks because it's slower and doubles as a lockdown assists. I don't like doom's beam with Jill because it blows people away making it hard to confirm. Also, in my opinion, the nature of her moveset and teleports make it harder to take advantage of beams then say... Wesker. If you like using beams, check out Pulsr, he player Jill/???/IM using Unibeam you might be able to get some stuff from him.

    However, if you do put in the time she has one of the most flexible toolsets in the game. With them, you can answer pretty much any situation the game throws at you.

    Also, Jill has the best lvl3 in the game, its just touchy.

  • @jhvidst2 A nearly uncontrollable lvl3 is not the best in the game, and it is overly touchy. She needs tweaking regardless. You don't have to agree.

  • @GhostOfMyself I can control it just fine. It's one of the best anti-phoenix supers in the game. If you can't control it the only one you have to blame is yourself, not the game. It could stand to be less touchy, but I don't see how you can do that without making the super into something else entirely.

    Actually, X-23 has the best Level 3 in the game. Nobody else can 100% guarantee a kill on an incoming character.

    That said, I wouldn't say combos are the lynchpin to Jill's success. If you can do a decent combo into Raven Spike DHC Glitch, that's generally fine. She's weak unless you can control her flow outside of combos, I'd say.

  • @ProzacStylings Being unable to control the character is only a fault of the player.

    But yeah, the best lvl 3 is either Jill, X23, or Doom. Jill and X23's are very similar actually, they both create what is basically guaranteed damage (almost, there are answers to both), but I would give jills the edge because it has alot more utility outside of said setups, and you build meter like normal while your in crack mode. My opinion on which is better though. X23 has a strong case too.

    I don't want to cause a ruckus on your video page, bro. Really like the material, those Machine Gun + Assist resets are disgusting. Couldn't you make that a 50/50, if you properly space where you start the Machine Gun from, and combine it with an assist that'll hit them long enough for Jill to dash in?

    And if they block right, they can't pushblock the assist, and have to guess 50/50 again from Feral Dash monkeyness? More like a 75/25 then, crazy.

    I'm not sure I understand what you're thinking? All the MGS resets I demoed (there are more) already leave you in their face with frame advantage, and Jill just being next to you is a 50/50. One thing you can do is, by altering the position you start the Machine gun from, you can alter how they have to block it, and where you wind up.

  • Usually I don't take people's combos for Jill, and I usually come up with my own.Infact, I was able to get a character specific 950K with Jill, but NEVER thought of adding an OTG'd assist into her Arrow kick/ Double knee drop. Brilliant stuff! Sorry bro, but I'm about to steal your 1m and see if I can modify it a bit to suit my team

    PS- Did you ever explore the Summersault reset? Right after Raven Spike, you have tech-adv to Sum into combo/j.c

    Anyway I can get a notation though?

  • This is soooooo perfect right now. Jill is probably the most fun I think I've ever had with any fighting game character, and I decided yesterday to start putting some more time into her again. (used her for the first 300 matches, then started playing with Cap as my main for a few thousand).

    This will help me get her up to par very quickly, and get my brain back into Jill movement mode (vastly different from my Cap/Spencer/IronMan team).

  • @DocCeaser Yeah, having just an OTG assist does wonders for her mixup potential, it doesn't just setup the resets I demoed, but it lets you combo off her air throw, which is a big deal.

    But then there's a few other characters I'd think the same of, like MODOK. I guess MvC3 is the only game where ease of use contributes to tier listing. :b

  • @Shinkada Jill has mobility issues, assists can help, but there are plenty of characters that don't have the issues in the first place. That's the main thing holding her back, that and people not putting in the time to explore this very advanced character.

  • @jhvidst2 Yeah. But mobility isn't as big a deal as it used to be in MvC3. It's hard as fuck to zone someone unless you have a team explicitly for it, and not many people don't have Wolvie or She-Hulk on point.

    But yeah. It takes time to bring out her potential and why bother when Berserker Slash exists. :c
