@Sharpy111 For the 2001 census results Scotland had 8.61% of the population and 9.07% of the Westminster seats. Rounded to the nearest % Scotland has 9% of both population and seats! Even if you break it down exactly to the hundredth of a percent Scotland only has 3 seats more than its exact % share would be. Hardly 'massively' over-represented!
It's been a long time since the Union and both countries are quite different, if one wants to leave the other has nosay in the matter. If Scotland wants nothing to do with England that's their choice and as a British citizen living in England I support them.

was about 180. So there 'may' have been near parity in numbers rather than many more English, but the English were supposedly much better equipped. And you are absolutely right about the English commander except it is even worse than that. The initial vangaurd had almost crossed when they were called back because he had yet to give the order. Then they started to cross again :-)
@AdoPotts6 That isn't strictly true, there were just as many English, but they had to cross a small bridge over the River Forth to get at the Scottish. The arrogant English commander believed he was fighting worthless peasants and ordered his men to cross the bridge. The English were crammed into a bottleneck by Wallace and his men, and were massacred.
@Plantman67 "there were just as many English" By tradition the English army was much larger but that is probably down to Cressingham claiming that he'd assembled 10,000. In the book "Battlefield Britain" it is claimed that the English force had possibly reduced to a minimum of about 6,000 infantry with around 380 cavalry. It states that de-Moray's force would be a maximum 4,000 to 5,000 with Wallace perhaps bringing about 1,000 or so. According to the chronicler Guisborough the Scots cavalry
@AdoPotts6 At Bannockburn the English did greatly outnumber the Scots both in men and equipment etc. But they were defeated due to Bruce's leadership. Wallace and de Moray did get a bit of an open goal at Stirling because of the crass stupidity and arrogance of the English commanders but they still had to actually take their chance and drive home the advantage! Other Scots leaders have squandered similar advantages.
@gaconnochie Excellent posts sir. The tradgedy of Stirling Bridge was the mortal wounding of Andrew de Moray who later died of his wounds thus depriving the Scots army of its master tactician and natural overlord. Wallace was much more of a guerrila fighter rather than a pitched battle tactician and that is probably why Falkirk was such a failure.

Or maybe someone should film a smalzy drama about how the Saxe-Coburg dynasty in England re-named itself to Winsor in WWI to fool the masses, and STILL had to exile it's NAZI-sympathetic (former) King Edward VIII to Bermuda? :OP

@WolfytheWolf5667 we dont love you this movie is based on a true story you dumbass you fucking rape women because no girl would ever have sex with you gapped tooth bitches
@WolfytheWolf5667 Mel Gibson didn't base this off of his own opinions. This is based off of historic events. The film may not be historically correct but it's not complete fiction. Learn what you're complaining about before you start running your mouth. You're only making yourself look like an idiot.
2:25 'And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!' One of the best movie ever!
I'm Irish and I'm sure the Scots are much braver fighters than the Irish! The Irish Gael clans employed Scottish Gall Oglaigh (gallowglasses) as their heavy infantry- no wonder!
@MinimoviesInc the Irish also had Ostmen in their ranks. They were Viking raiders turned settlers that lived their entire lifes in Ireland so they gave military service in return. Also the city of Dublin was originally created by Vikings.
@Elspethknighterrant Cool! I didn't know that about the Ostmen! Yeah I knew Dublin was founded by the Vikings, its name probably came from Dyflin, which I think means a joining of rivers? It could also be from the Irish Dubh Linn, meaning Black Pool. The names make sense as two rivers join in Dublin, creating a deep pool at their intersection.
Hi.I'm really amazed how Scotland was all about freedom but Scots where is that freedom now ? where is all you fought for ? Why did you sell out you're country to England ? I say Scotland needs to be independant ! Do it for William Wallace and for every great Scot that ever lived ! and most of all do it for FREEDOM !!!
@DelTevynes You know that the King of England that Merged Scotland and England James VI was scottish, and made sure it wasnt called England, but The United Kingdom, to make sure, thats scots wouldnt be forgotten for there bravery!!!
Scotland can't afford to be Independant, as shown by England's lending money over the few past years. For example, the SIX BILLION we gave to Ireland.
@WolfytheWolf5667 bro your retarded Scotland and Ireland are two different places also go fuck yourself your cocky and should not have the right to watch this movie go have some tea and suck a fat one
@DelTevynes most historially incorrect films ever. robert the bruce wasnt even alive at the same time as Wallace, and Wallace was a brutal murderer who killed men women and children. not a hero. also we were never conkered (sorry cant spell that<<) by the english, we signed 4 it, and i along with many scots are proud to say we and the english are the same and make the UK!
@jonnyR1321 bruce was alive the same time with wallace the only thing braveheart got wrong about wallace and bruce was that wallace was not a complete supporter of bruce as shown in the film
@Gamer360Boy In 2009, the film was second on a list of "most historically inaccurate movies" in The Times. The final scenes of the film also suggest that William Wallace and Edward I of England died at exactly the same moment, which is false. Wallace was executed in 1305 and Edward I died in 1307.
@DelTevynes Yeah but there friends now, Northern Ireland Is foolish to push out England, they would make jobs, there richer than all those drunk Irish morons!!
@DelTevynes Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't it king James II of Scotland who rode to London to claim the English crown after Elizabeth I died? If you look at it that way, Scotland actually took over England ;-)
@oranjuh "What good would it bring for Scotland to become independant anyway" Up until now the nationalists in Scotland haven't been in a position to move towards independence. They won the election half a decade ago but did not have an overall majority in the Scottish Parliament so couldn't move forward with their stated plan to hold a referendum. At the last election they won a majority of seats and are planning to hold a referendum during this term of office. they need to win it of course.
But I will do everthing humanly possible, to let the scots know, Norway has 500 Billion dollars, for fun money, and we have, lets check, zero, and we have more oil
@DelTevynes They do have independence, they have their own government and voted to form a union with England in 1707. They are not under English rule in any way.
@uafchris That is the biggest load of shite i've ever read. Since when did anyone vote for the Union? Did you know when the Union happened in 1707 Edinburgh and Glasgow rioted for months? As for our own Government, yes we have a devolved Administration, however we don't have full fiscal autonomy, we don't have control of our own resources or whether or not we send our citizens to war . At the most recent election the Tories won 1 seat in Scotland out of 56 seats. You call that democracy? bollox
@uafchris "They do have independence" By independence people mean a parliament independent of Wesminster control with its own seperate tax raising powers etc. No we don't have that at the moment. Neither the Scottish or English people voted for the union in 1707. They were not democratic countries. Of course we aren't under English rule we are part of a union which we can leave at will. The point is not about 300 years ago though it is about the hear and now. Many Scots beleive that they will
@TheLiverpolitan Oh shut the fuck up, why don't you move to scotland and see how much people admire you with your dick sucking. Besides, it was not english people's fault, but who else could you name, ie noone, which shows how naive you are son
@TheLiverpolitan William Wallace was not a hero. He murdered innocents, did things he shouldn't have. Just like che guevara he is a martyr so the untasty parts have been smudged out.
This is why they faught - they faught to stay free but eventually lost so now we live under rule
We should have mass freedom demonstrations although i doubt they would give up power voluntarily as they shed a lot of our ancestors blood to gain it as we see here
william wallace was a great leader his tactics were amazing but if it was like in the film where they just charge in they would be cut down he was a hero coming from liverpool

2:25 'And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!' One of the best movie ever!

Am scottish and i absolutely love this film it makes me proud to be Scottish
jayand23 11 months ago
I'm Irish and I'm sure the Scots are much braver fighters than the Irish! The Irish Gael clans employed Scottish Gall Oglaigh (gallowglasses) as their heavy infantry- no wonder!
Celts rule in any case.
MinimoviesInc 1 year ago
@MinimoviesInc the Irish also had Ostmen in their ranks. They were Viking raiders turned settlers that lived their entire lifes in Ireland so they gave military service in return. Also the city of Dublin was originally created by Vikings.
Elspethknighterrant 11 months ago

@DelTevynes

@DelTevynes most historially incorrect films ever. robert the bruce wasnt even alive at the same time as Wallace, and Wallace was a brutal murderer who killed men women and children. not a hero. also we were never conkered (sorry cant spell that<<) by the english, we signed 4 it, and i along with many scots are proud to say we and the english are the same and make the UK!
jonnyR1321 9 months ago
@jonnyR1321 bruce was alive the same time with wallace the only thing braveheart got wrong about wallace and bruce was that wallace was not a complete supporter of bruce as shown in the film
Gamer360Boy 9 months ago
@Gamer360Boy In 2009, the film was second on a list of "most historically inaccurate movies" in The Times. The final scenes of the film also suggest that William Wallace and Edward I of England died at exactly the same moment, which is false. Wallace was executed in 1305 and Edward I died in 1307.
jonnyR1321 9 months ago
@jonnyR1321 its just for dramatic effect as mel gibson said he was going for more cinematic than accurate

@DelTevynes we do. weve been independent for over 700 years. thats what this film documents.
not sure if trolling, or just really stupid.
volound 7 months ago
@volound If you had independance you wouldn't share your wealth with England and I would see "Scotland" on Europe's maps.

@DelTevynes silly child. thats not how it works.
that isnt how it works, at all.

@DelTevynes Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't it king James II of Scotland who rode to London to claim the English crown after Elizabeth I died? If you look at it that way, Scotland actually took over England ;-)

What good would it bring for Scotland to become independant anyway??
oranjuh 6 months ago
@oranjuh We never you stupid Leeds fucker.Pick up a fucking book or something.
legandrydirk 6 months ago
@oranjuh "What good would it bring for Scotland to become independant anyway" Up until now the nationalists in Scotland haven't been in a position to move towards independence. They won the election half a decade ago but did not have an overall majority in the Scottish Parliament so couldn't move forward with their stated plan to hold a referendum. At the last election they won a majority of seats and are planning to hold a referendum during this term of office. they need to win it of course.

@DelTevynes They do have independence, they have their own government and voted to form a union with England in 1707. They are not under English rule in any way.
uafchris 5 months ago
@uafchris That is the biggest load of shite i've ever read. Since when did anyone vote for the Union? Did you know when the Union happened in 1707 Edinburgh and Glasgow rioted for months? As for our own Government, yes we have a devolved Administration, however we don't have full fiscal autonomy, we don't have control of our own resources or whether or not we send our citizens to war . At the most recent election the Tories won 1 seat in Scotland out of 56 seats. You call that democracy? bollox
NoriokoTheMagicSkunk 5 months ago

Pawnbroker00 1 year ago
@TheLiverpolitan William Wallace was not a hero. He murdered innocents, did things he shouldn't have. Just like che guevara he is a martyr so the untasty parts have been smudged out.
Pawnbroker00 1 year ago
Its obvious that to be free you cant have people
rule you
This is why they faught - they faught to stay free but eventually lost so now we live under rule
We should have mass freedom demonstrations although i doubt they would give up power voluntarily as they shed a lot of our ancestors blood to gain it as we see here
godkingofthepunks 1 year ago
william wallace was a great leader his tactics were amazing but if it was like in the film where they just charge in they would be cut down he was a hero coming from liverpool
