the rod can handle it, the line can handle it, your whist can't... do it for 10 more times and your have a carpal tunnel syndrome or something like that
You were never going to get very much compression in the rod with that style of cast.
If you had the brick at your feet instead of out behind you then you would have got a lot more compression into the rod and hence more distance, or maybe as you said snap the rod.
I see so many people post videos about casting further and harder and think to myself "Fish smarter, not harder". This is what we do in the fair land of New Zealand. Get 2-3 frozen berley bombs wait for the incoming tide, walk down to where we cast, hammer the berleys into the sand and wait for the tide to come in and cast to the berleys and whammo fish. Guess a 300 meter cast is useful for something, just not sure what.
A berley bombs come in a variety of different types. It can be made up of mashed up bait fish mixed with fish oils, pellets, shell fish etc. It's basically a frozen slab of different types of foods that fish eat. It comes in a mesh so when you put it in the water it doesn't float away with the tide but it does disperse oils and scents into the water which helps brings the fish in looking for food.
Here is a tip....: Next time just pick the brick up with your hand and throw it out there. You will get better distance but I doubt your hookup ratio will improve. I would liek to see a vid using a 4-6oz weight and a little more effort.
I shattered somebodys cheapy carbon rod (just casting a float) once during a fishing trip, boom went the upper middle and the remains of tip section ended up sliding down the line.
did he actually hook anything? (jk) thats some rod!

I don't know when I would ever want to cast a 4 pound brick,
but it's nice to know that there are fishing rods out there that can do it.

Okay trollz, it's a brick being used to demonstrate the strength of the rod. Rob's not fishing and we don't normally use bricks at Hatteras.
Also, stop bragging about your sister being able to handle a rod.

Don't worry, we're not all as patronising as the last guy in New Zealand, well done for casting a brick.

Carbon rods will break, they are not indestructible.
cheap ones will break easier than fibreglass because carbon on its own is brittle.
malchurn 4 years ago
he cast a friggin brick with it... i wouldn't consider that brittle
piercj2 4 years ago
brittle means ok until it breaks suddenly...

"cheapy" is the key word there. the rod demonstrated in this video is high quality and anything but cheap.

whats the bite detection like ie the upper tip?
any kevlar in it?
