    Trelos1Epistimonas2 = Crazy1Scientist2 :-)

  • I have been repairing rips & missing bits for a few years (self taught) - you have taught me so much in just a few minutes. I now have an idea of repairs i never thought possible. Thank you

  • I am glad that the video helped you. Restoring old photos is a wonderful activity isn't it especially when you understand some of the powerful features in Photoshop ...

    Rich

  • Hi Rich!

    accept my response...

  • I love your voice! You sound so kind. Unfortunately the photo I am trying to restore has a lot of white ghosting which is really difficult to cope with! Any tips Ric?

  • Hmmm - without seeing the photo I really don't know how to approach it.

You can send me a copy of you wish ...?

    Rich

  • Thanks for replying, Rich, that's really kind of you. I did the best I could (it was a favour for my 84 year old uncle) - so I just followed your advice and used channels. Not a bad result! - Pottymoon!

  • That's great - I'm glad you got it resolved!

    Rich

I was going to rate it 5 star but accidentally hit the 4th! lol my bad

    Ric

  • Good - I hope the information helps you with your oldies but goodies ...!

    Rich

  • Good video and fun to watch. What res did you scan the pic at? Also, is that a pic of your relatives or just some random pic you found in a thirft shop?

  • I'm glad you found the video both good and fun - my goals for sure.

This is a picture of my step-father-in-laws family.

I probably did the scan at about 500 dpi and saved is as a TIF to get the best possible reproduction.

The resulting file was monster huge!

    Rich

  • nice i like your technique

    thanks for sharing

  • Thanks!

Your short video is good - you do nice work ...

    Rich

  • LOL...I was trying to do this in PaintShop...took me 6 minutes into it to realize you were using Photoshop...I was wondering why mine wasnt working right...:)

  • Chuckle - although a lot of Photoshop techniques can be directly translated to Paint Shop.

I'm glad your found the right video ...

    Rich

  • Ok, thanks for your answer. I'll concentate all my energy in learning how to use the graphics tablet when it arrives. I want to start from step one and do it right.

    Bill

  • Thanks, Rich. This is so helpful. Can I achieve similar results with PhotoShop Elements?

  • The problem is that elements does not have the Curves or Channel Mixer adjustment layers - at least in Elements 5.

Perhaps version 6 or 7 includes those adjustment layers.

Sorry - you can do them with Paint Shop Pro X2 and it is much less than buying Photoshop.

    Rich

  • I took another look at this with Elements 5.

If you go to Enhance > convert to Black and White you can mess about with a lot of different settings.

After you choose one then go to Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Shadows/Highlights and play around with the sliders.

    Good luck with it ...

    Rich

  • Man, I wish you had post this a couple months ago. D:

In my (STUPID) Digital Photo class, we actually had a photo restore project. Mine was in sepia and stained everywhere.

  • Well - if you'd a told me I woulda done it for you.

How did you do with the project, by the way?

    Rich

  • ... really? That's pretty considerate of you. :D

I think I did okay, I mostly used clone stamp and healing brush, no biggie. Thanks for asking. ^^

  • The neat thing about Photoshop is that there are many different roads to get to one place and I would never suggest my way is the only way.

Your suggestion is probably a good one and I may try it to see what happens.

Thanks for the positive comment on the colour and contrast.

    Rich

  • i wouldnt want to draw their faces in like that id rather fidle with the darkness levels and i think the faces would show ok then, but you did a good job on the colour and the contrasts
