I'm English and horrified by what the IRA did BUT if the British hadn't gone into Ireland in the first place none of these terrible things would have happened . The British have to accept that the IRA was their fault. And before they condemn the IRA atrocities maybe they should remember Bloody Sunday and other events of the kind. The British have plenty of blood on their hands, too. Sometimes their hypocrisy astounds me (and not just concerning Northern Ireland).
very intelligent man, never to be underestimated, plenty of guts, brains unlike most of the people who have commented here, do they even know the situation in the north of Ireland. Though i'm sure most post are by imbecile loyalist bigots
My favourite bombing was the Harrods bombing in London in 1983. They blew a Yank tourist to shreds and once they found out they quicjly back-tracked and pretended it wasn't them. It doesn't do to kill the people paying for your bombs!
Its interesting how the plastic paddies in the USA were so into all this, politically backing and financing the Sinn Fein/IRA war on the other side of the Atlantic. Yet when it happened to them, namely 9/11 ocurred, the plastics now knew what it felt like and they turned against Sinn Fein/IRA and demanded they disarmed. Ted Kennedy said in 2005: "no political party can have an armed unit". He said it was wrong for Sinn fein to have elected representatives and have a personal arsenal of weapons.
By reading the comments I can see how naive people are , Martin McGuinness is not jesus he is a politician and politicians just like lawyers are scum , just hope that scum is on your side !
martin and co murdered children, protestants and catholics in the name of a free ireland.now he is payed monthly by the british government.what happened to your free ireland and why did all those people have to die.peace process was just you and your pals takeing your 40 pieces of silver, your grand titles and fine suits and your british pay masters.what a waste of live.all for what ?
@GeordieBest1974 The Catholics in NI weren't able to get jobs, they were beaten regularly, shot at, oppressed. People like Martin stood up for the people when noone else would and peaceful protests were reacted to with violence. I think you're full of shit, clearly this man is dedicating a large chunk of his life to republicanism because he wants a united Ireland, not for cash.
@fionnoc that's bullshit, he was leader of the IRA, and he killed innocent Catholics as well as Protestants. He was responsible for murdering IRA members who either left the terrorist organisation to help out British Intelligence, or were questioned by MI5, this mostly included guys as young as their mid teens - then as soon as he got the opportunity to work in government with the British he took it, it was for personal gain, nothing else - he's a corrupt cunt.
@kargwain187 Yeah I do and I never said I agree with the IRA, at all, I don't, they're scum. I'm just saying as well as killing innocent civilians McGuinness killed young IRA members who were taken by British Intelligence - like as young as 16 - I think this was unjust because kids at this age were easily indoctrinated into the whole republican scene, then once he got the chance McGuinness decided to make a deal with the British Gov to get into power - that's what I was trying to point out.
@Shaftsus So you do know that the figure is 668 in 50 years out of a total of 3700 people killed in the entire conflict ... thats good ... I know what you where pointing out ... Im just trying to converse so we might learn a bit from each other ... however i have another question if you dont mind. How many innocent civilians have the british army killed in the last 50 years ?
@kargwain187 I don't know, a lot less though - I do know that rubber bullets caused fatalities and at times there were children killed by them, If you get hit in the chest or head by one of those you'd die instantly. At first the army were welcomed in nationalist areas - but why paratroopers were sent to supervise a peaceful demonstration on Bloody Sunday I have no idea - they were trained to kill, not to enforce the law- it was a mistake to send them in and the IRA got a lot of support from it.
@Shaftsus You have become an apologist for them ... thats the worst thing to be ... and by the way the figure for how many civilians the british state killed in the last 50 years would run into millions. Ireland wasnt the only the place they operated. It might also be an eye opener for you to read about ian henderson (the butcher of bahrain) the people you speak out to defend are torturing little kids right now as you read this.
@kargwain187 oh right I thought you were asking how many innocent civilians in NI have been killed by Army in the last 50 years, not in general - of course Falklands, Gulf War, Iraq, Afghan, Eastern Europe there would be a staggering death toll. And no I'm not defending them - the paratroopers were animals and were trained to kill - some carved their bullets so that they would do more explosive damage and pretty much blow of limbs, I just think Westminster made a huge mistake sending them in.
@Shaftsus This is the only place you and i diverge. I dont think they made a mistake, i think they knew exactly what they where doing. Using the place as a training ground for their foreign wars ect .... In todays world we are requested to forget the past and forgive the british even though the crimes they comited here anre being perpetrated elsewhere right now. However why is it just them , why not mcguinness. Why does the queen have all nice things said about her but not mcguinness
@kargwain187 oh :O my brother suspects that as well - he says Thatcher probably ordered them to shoot to send a message to nationalist protesters - there's no evidence of any orders though and if there is it will be a few decades before the British gov release any documentation on it, cause it would be too controversial to release now. And I don't think McGuinness deserves any forgiveness over what he has done - he's a slimey cunt who did whatever he could to get into power.
@Shaftsus The man in charge of the bloody sunday operation was given a medal by the queen and has since been promoted to general , that dont sound like he made a mistake to me. I will support any politition who will stand up against that kind of brutality. As we speak , right now, their are children in bahrain getting tortured by british soldiers. Until they stop that kind of thing Ireland should not allow them any courtasy and any Irish leader who ignores it is a slimy cunt, condoning torture
@Shaftsus just look up ian henderson ... otherwise known as the butcher of bahrain it should tell you everything you need to know about that. Paid to torture and teach them how to torture. Member of the british armed forces and now lives in a quiet country cottage in britain ... Human rights abuse and crimes against humanity are rewarded in some places
@Shaftsus There is allot more to these things ... he is not the only one ... and not the only story. They are still doing these things there now ,, as we speak .... and they congratulate us on being mature enough to host the queen ... its ridiculas in the extreme
@fionnoc that's bullshit, he was leader of the IRA, and he killed innocent Catholics as well as Protestants. @fionnoc northern ireland catholics had jobs but were encouraged to declare themselves unemployed and take benifit as well as work. thats the facts..as for martin,he is now officially working for the british, paid by the british and has accepted british rule in northern ireland by declaring his support for the crown forces within the p.s.n.i . he took his fancy titles and job, wheres his united ireland ??? in his fat wallet is where !
Not a member of the IRA.....the why Marty are there dozens of videos on youtube of you in the 70's and 80's claiming to be a senior officer and mouthpiece of the IRA....
He' lying through his teeth here, to look good in front of america and secure sympathy and funds for "the struggle".
I often wonder if martin mcguinness wolud be for peace if he wasnt given given a powerful position and hundreds of thousands of euros a year....
@Isthisthelongestname Well to be fair, I think he means hes not a member of the IRA anymore. He has never hid the fact he was a member of the IRA. He gave a detailed account of IRA operations in Londonderry to the bloody sunday inquiry. Which is a pretty interesting historical document regarding the troubles.
Now Gerry Adams is another story. He always denies belonging to the IRA, despite most experts agreeing he rose to rank of chief of staff before going to prison.
@MrJghf don't you mean IRA...duh... as for been a colonilst, i'v never colonisted any country myself, but in the past England has colonilsted many countries and i agree we should put things right, so getting rid of scotland would be a good start, and it would save us loads of money too, just hope you lot do your part and keep out of England...wish the irish would too...... he is still a scum bag!!!!!!!!

@MrJghf the trouble with you is you hate the English so much you side up with low lifes like McGuinness, just because they have a chip on there shoulder about the UK, if you stuck to the fact's and stopped living in the past we could all get on with each other, the hatred is made worse for the you scot's because you take our taxes and all the benefits we give you, then stab us in the back.. that also makes you feel weak!!.. thanks for been a good example of what we english have to put up with.
as a Scotsman, I am ashamed and embarrassed that fellow scots joined the "British army" to suppress the Irish people. We should have also been fighting for our own country, maybe together we could have reached our goal. There are too many traitors in Scotland who would rather be fucked by the Queen.
@MrJghf .. as a scotsman, why don't you fuck off and rule your own country. you have leached off the English (same as has the irish) for years.. this man has blood on his hands and is a first class scum bag..... irish SCUM
I don't pretend to understand the issues of Northern Ireland over the last 40+ years, but regardless, you cannot deny this man has balls. Really a courageous leader no matter what you think of his politics or morality. How many times has this guy expected to to take a bullet in the head as he led a march? What balls.
So if the Britts are "good"??? They kill women and children with several hundred thousands in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan and invalidize small children. Do they have the moral right to play judgement all over the world???

Beware of the thing that is coming, beware of the risen people
Who shall take what ye would not give.
Did ye think to conquer the people, or that law is stronger than life,
And than men’s desire to be free?
We will try it out with you ye that have harried and held,
Ye that have bullied and bribed.
