@gughoful actually there is very low chance of a dog dieing while giving birth but its possible if there is a serious problem and just because a dog is small doesnt mean they are more likely to die also because there puppies are much smaller then bigger dogs

First of all, I do respect the work of the people on the video and we all who have assist a birth have our own technique therefore I do respect their work :)
...I would had help the mom getting the pup out and open the placenta a little so she could eat it and recognize the scent of the newborn releasing dopamine in her brain (that is why once they take the pup close to her she shows no interest on it), once she gets busy eating the placenta you detach the pup from it and gently rub him with a towel to stimulate him (just as the mom does once she starts cleaning him, that is why in this case the pup didn't start breading by his own)...
...and dry him up as soon as possible because is amazing the speed that they start loosing body heat, I do not recommend to swing the pup that violently as that can lead to edema, instead if and only if you need to you can do a mouth to mouth and clear the fluids that will come out trough the mouth and nose (this can only be taught by a veterinarian as their lungs are so tiny you don't want to explode their insides), anyways, as long as the pups are good this was a good delivery :)

@Tepadj BS I just witnessed my boyfriends chihuahua that was smaller than this give birth to five babies without ANY interfeirence from me or him. You should not interfeire unless there is a real danger because you could be doing more damage than good. He wanted me there because he had never had a dog give birth before and I have been raising australian shepherds for many years. I have the experience that he didn't and I still didn't have to do much.

@Tepadj look stick to what you know. if a dog is bred right then they will birth naturaly without any interferience from us. Every breed has a story behind it and a reason. Just because these dogs are small don't think they aren't useful. they are supposed to be bred as lap dogs but in reality they were great ratters in the home wich kept the family safe. they have just as much of a purpose on this earth as the herding dogs I breed do. do your research before you call them freaks of nature.

Chihuahuas have huge heads and they need help getting the heads out...or you'll have to go to the vet for a c-section. You shake it and rub it to get it to breath.
